That’s how I was raised. Just ignore the issue. It’ll go away. Such an unhealthy way of living life. Confront your issues. Solve the problem. Ignoring just makes things worse in the end.
yuh same. Im in my 30s now and I'm trying to figure out how to undo my shitty upbringing so i dont pass it on to the baby my wife and I are planning. Its a fucking trip trying to psycho-analyze my childhood and parents to try and pick out the good and bad parenting stuff only to realise almost all of it was bad.
Yeah, like cancer...
Yeah it kinda grows on you.
Long story short, I'm not the fire chief anymore.
Finally, someone could keep the story short. Usually it's "Long story short, there I was with the matches (10 minutes later) ..and thats why I'm no longer the fire chief.
Works with Check Engine Lights!
It’s like Christmas lights. So cool to watch it blink!
Hey! My boss is on Reddit!
It’s like we say in emergency medicine. All bleeding stops eventually.
Colourblind person: Hmm... sounds good, thanks for the advice.
Don't you know the saying? "If colorblind, ignore Advice ducks, use your mind."
He said "resolve", not fix...
Sometimes it be like that - not too often, but it does happen enough that I still haven’t learnt better
Since I am always triaging my finite time to spend on nearly-infinite tasks (whether for work or for home), I actually find it to be a really valuable personal asset to cultivate strong intuition about what problems might indeed resolve themselves, and how long you can reasonably wait in the hopes that they do.
Mm, obesity disappears naturally over time.
That's one thing that actually would disappear if you just did literally nothing and waited.
Or it won't and then you'll eventually die. So, nothing to worry about.
The problem either goes away or gets too big to do anything about. Sounds like a win-win.
The red duck is the bad advice one, right?
No. You should absolutely trust everything you read on the internet.
"There's no problem too big to be ignored."
Yes, because eventually other people will pick up your slack so it doesn’t come back on them
Not always and this still holds true. Like house payments.
Ah, the Charles Boyle strategy of problem solving.
This is my old boss. He hates conflict and didn't do shit about issues in the office. He eventually got a lawsuit on him. You would think this would teach him a lesson. Nope. Another lawsuit is pending.
Are you my IT department at work?
One way or another.... :-o
And this too shall pass away.
The Dude approves, right?
Instructions unclear, still broke as fuck.
One time I had a roommate, we were both lazy and neither one of us wanted to be the one to unclog the shower drain. Eventually I did it while he was out one day. He came home and took a shower, then excitedly came to tell me that "the shower fixed itself!" 🤦
... but likely not favorably.
Tell that to the (currently) 1,498 bugs in the code.
I unfortunately do this to my detriment
Seems like how Doug Ford approached the pandemic
IT worker's motto.
As an IT professional I concur, after a ticket has been submitted give it several hours before calling back the user and 90% of the time, the issue will have been resolved.
Several hours may be excessive.. and as always, parse the text of the problem to see if its real issue or user..
But ya, generally, our maxim in the shop is ....2/3rds of tickets magically resolve if you wait 45 minutes for the user to get bored waiting and try to figure out what they are doing wrong themselves.
Even if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
The environment, gun laws, media that spreads disinformation...it'll work itself out.
It will resolve on its own, but almost NEVER in the way you want or hope, and rarely ever in a timely many
If you want it to resolve quickly or favorably, you gotta confront it
This is awful advice.
On a long enough time line the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.
This is right, but you won't like the outcome.
I dunno man, I think 1940’s Europe would disagree with that tactic
The heat death of the universe fixes everything.
Or, more likely, someone else will resolve it for you. When this is collaborative it's beautiful! When it's not, it's like littering.
Just head down to the Winchester, have a pint, and wait for this to all blow over.
Wait this isn't r/depressionmemes!
Technically if you wait long enough all issues go away because you die.. and just like that.. everything is no longer your problem.
There are only two problems in life that will go away if you ignore them long enough. One is shoveling snow. The other is famine.
I think this is great. Will be telling people this the rest of my life so they think im deep!!
Well just a second there, professor. We uh, we fixed the *glitch*. So he won't be receiving a paycheck anymore, so it will just work itself out naturally.
I say the same thing about climate change and overpopulation of the planet.
In time...its self correcting.
No one mentions the part where we go from 7.5 billion people to 2.1 billion...or the stench.
Not all ignored problems yield results we will 'appreciate'.
This is awful advice...
*Gets a Concussion*
If I just sleep on this and wait it out, it will resolve itself...
There's a saying in medicine: All Bleeding Stops Eventually
I ain't got the patience to die of old age
Well this sums up germany's strategy for everything over the past 16 years.
Yeah, like climate change... /s
This is what i thought about me getting sent to collections. Please , dont be dumb like me. Let me do that for you for you so you dont have to go threw it.
Tell that to my wife
It all comes out in the wash.
The Boyle Method
*cries in student loans*
No, I don’t think it will.
Well this can be helpful advice when you're really busy whilst being pummeled with emails.
Ok stop paying your heating bill and tell me how that resolved it’self
Works for cancer, but not in the way you want.
Must be an airline pilot.
Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow when you might die in the meantime and not have to do it at all.
I stared at this duck for way too long waiting for it to turn green...
This is true for wound healing
i had so so many situations where i used this technique at a past job. it worked beautifully.
So true regarding aging. There is one final, foolproof solution.
Translation: put off issues until someone solves them for you.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
To be fair. Sometimes ignoring the issue is the right move.
Just outlive everyone
Sometimes the right thing to do is nothing.
Jim Henson had the wait and see approach. Now we have wrong sounding Muppets.
Entropy cures all
Like the old EMS joke. All bleeding stops...eventually.
Usually resolution comes in your untimely death
@ me next time.
I don't think this applies to the north koreans or the pandemic
True, and difficult to remember at times. All depends on keeping a positive attitude and waiting for the weather to change, really.
“A bleeding stops.”
A doctor I knew once
To be fair, this is a working solution for when you drop an ice cube. Cleans itself up.
or snow on the driveway. just wait a few months.
Malicious advice mallard...boy do it feel stupid. Is my face red?
Doesn't apply to STDs.
This is horrible advice. Like don’t get stressed unnecessarily and try to keep the long view, but address the problem. I literally tell my kids and my students the exact opposite of this: no problem gets better by being ignored.
I feel like it needs to be emphasized that the issue resolving *itself* typically does not end up being in your favor
And the budget will balance itself!
FYI- There are quite a few problems you can run away from forever
Pregnancy. One way or another, you won't be pregnant anymore.
You’re right, I don’t need to file my taxes
I have been doing this too, I have been waiting seven years for my dad and he still hasn’t came back.
I've been here for an hour and this ducking fuck won't turn green
Except when it comes to debts from other countries. Interest is a bitch.
The house is on fire tho-
J U S T W A I T
\*Sips coffee next to dead body\*
Organ failure conquers all
Aha, great advice... I've worked in an office environment managing various logistics operations for past 18-19 years. I swear by this... letting things breath for 10 minutes even in the most urgent logistical situations will save you so much time in the long run. So many times it worked itself out. People panic, they try to think of quick solutions and set things in motion without thinking of repercussions. No matter who is on the other end of the line barking orders...I need it now!!!... Just let it breath man.
The Boyle way.
This is some of the best medical advice I've received concerning my melanoma, thanks!
It's not terrible advice if it's often true. There are definitely things you should wait out and see if other peoples' incompetence will make go away.
This was how my previous manager was. She would ignore some issues that were brought up because "if they were important enough, someone would figure it out" or "if they weren't important, they would go away." Needless to say, I'm not working for said boss anymore, thank goodness.
This sounds like my boss.
Same with cancer and racism.
Might have to wait another 40-something years for some of my issues
I make this comment in many status meetings. Troubleshooting 101; wait long enough and the issue will resolve itself
Kind of dangerous advice. Certain situations it works but issues like:
My alcoholism is getting out of hand. If I just ignore it, everything will fall into place.
My 3 month old has a temp of 104. If I just ignore it, it will resolve itself.
My foundation on my house is crumbling. If I just ignore it, it should rebuild itself.
This lump on my breast keeps getting bigger. Maybe I'll go up a cup size.
These kinds of issues need attention. Most issues in life should be taken care of. Issues that have to do with petty things like:
This person doesn't like me for stupid reasons. If I ignore them and just love myself, the issue will go away.
This zit on my face makes me incredibly self-conscious. If I just take proper care of myself and let my hormones run their course, the problem will go away.
These issues can be solved by this advice.
Well. The duck is still red
Press any button to continue...
So will 9 months be long enough?
She's not wrong.
Describes about 90% of IT problems
In surgery the saying is “all bleeding stops eventually.”
Left the oven on. Fire department took care of it. Didn't have to do a thing.
Hello fellow shift worker!
Yes, but do I really want to put up with it until the Sun converts into a red giant and incinerates the earth?
That was funny wasn’t it?! Funny, funny, funny?
This is how I wasted my teenage years, just waiting for them to be over, now I'm in my 20s wanting to die
Well once you're dead there won't likely be very much to worry about
This principle essentially guided me through my early career in IT, doing tech support.
And often enough it worked.
If the problem was serious enough the customer would call back until they reached someone that cared. But usually they'd either get some coworker to help them with their incompetence, or they'd eventually turn their computer off and on...
Technically correct, the best kind of correct.
