I like seeing which items people use to combine to make the buildings, but at the end I'm just left with this feeling it's not actually very satisfying to have on your island.
They're amazing to look at in pictures and if angled properly but super weird up close on the island running through depending on how you use them
This is exactly why I don't like panels or stands. However, I think people would use them less often if there were a wider variety of furniture in the game. As it is there aren't that many options so people who want to make something specific or unique don't have much of a choice but to use panels. My island is admittedly somewhat repetitive because of my refusal to use them.
my island is just chaotic and i love it lol
i hate em lol
I’ve been making the island more city-like but fake buildings don’t do it for me lol
I don't personally like them or the whole trend of making homes bigger with cliffs, silos, etc (i'm more of a forced perspective fan), but you gotta applaud the people that do this for their creativity.
Oh I hate simple panels... Kudos to those who can make them work and not CRINGE everytime they see them from a different angle. I couldnt stand it. They are not for me.
Yeah idk how people live on islands that only work from one angle. Would drive me nuts
Sometimes I wish my playstyle was like that. But I need my island beautiful from all angles so I stuck with a natural forest look, which is great to play but happens to look kinda bland compared to those shots with 101839 panels and silos and such of castles and whatever.
Hey, it's not bland, I'd way prefer to see more screenshots of islands like that on here. I think the coolest island is a natural one. I don't even have the game because I can't afford it so I'm living vicariously through you guys.
A controversial yet brave statement. AND I COMPLETELY AGREE.
I'm not totally against using illusions in designing. But when the illusion works only in photos. Its a no for me ma'am
Soooo true.. love & hate relationship, but more like hate 🙈
The only way I like them is up against a cliff. I need things to look okay from all angles
I have one simple panel in use. To create a toilet nook in the bathroom when I accidentally eat a bunch of turnips. Which happens... unnervingly often.
I have seen pics of panels against cliff sides, with a vine trellis design on them, I may try that someday.
They work well as retaining wall. I have a few trellises too.
Dont talk to me or my 87 simple panels ever again
buncha haters in this thread
I’m going to keep pushing my simple panels against my uncustomizable cliff faces in peace
They're usually a perspective thing and if it works for people, then I applaud them for it. I tried them and they didn't work for what I wanted, so I found other ways to have the look and feel for what I wanted.
i can't do decor that only works from one perspective cause just running around my island doing daily stuff wrecks the illusion.
I have one section of my island that's supposed to be an arcade, and I tried using panels and servers to really make it feel like it's "indoors" and it never feels right. Like it's pretty close, I think when you first walk in, it feels like going indoors, and it has several really great photo angles (not just one) but when you spend any time in there, the illusion dissolves. Also it lags my game like no tomorrow when I go anywhere near it, I hate it.
that got a genuine gut-busting belly laugh from me lmfao
I hate them lol. I agree that it looks tacky, but also I hate that the game forces us to make fake buildings instead of giving us real ones. Happy Home Designer had a whole main street we could design in and out. I get that it might not happen in an island, but... give us SOMETHING lmao.
This is why HHD is my fav ac game 😤 I only wish for a rerelease in better quality... Sigh
I'm in this picture and i don't like it
I am so happy my feelings aren't alone.
It can feel that way when something is everywhere lol
I call those “Instagram Islands”, lol. They look pretty cool and unique if you take a picture from a certain angle and use a filter when you post it online, but they look lame from *every* other angle. I play my file quite a bit every day, and I want it to be authentic, even if it’s a little lackluster.
That's a really good name for this haha
I just want resident services to be lined up evenly with the airport
It's not so bad really, there's a simple solution!
Just repeat to yourself:
"The illusion doesn't break the instant the camera slightly moves"
"The illusion doesn't break the instant the camera slightly moves"
"The illusion doesn't break the instant the camera slightly moves"
Do this about 3 hours a day for a month or two and bam, everything is fine!
Omg! I thought I was the only one that couldn't stand Simple Panels. If they could be linked together like a fence, they would be on point!
I’ve tried to like simple panels- I just don’t like the whole illusion thing. If something looks one way, I prefer it if it actually IS that way. The forced perspective stuff isn’t really my thing.
Only reason I don’t like it is cause you have to use SO MANY and it makes the game lag and stuff pops in. You can’t even experience it in dreams or visits because the objects all load in and don’t appear at the same time.
I went to a dream island that used stalls all over the place and my game went down to like 10FPS. It sucked so much.
i feel like the illusion often only works at the lowest camera angle so they look rlly cool in photos but then actually playing the game your island is just a bunch of walls
I think they look SO cool but not the vibe for my island, I need functional!
I'm not a fan of how people use simple panels to create pseudo buildings and structutes. More power to them, I'm just not enjoying how they look. But I do however like the simple panels itself. I use them for more conventional stuff like tourist tarpaulins and standees, like with my museum/picnic park, and also backgrounds for my green screen studio. They're great for that imo
I have used zero simple panels on my island. I need authenticity on my virtual island!
Not everyone hating panels now that it's a meme lol.
Just shows they need to add more customization. Ide pay for more buildings and for the lords sake more furniture and tile.
Honestly I've visited quite a few islands that have these huge simple panel facades and I don't like them at all. They're purely for instagram.
Yeah the panels are not for me. I like to have things BE nice, not just look nice from the right angles.
For me, I can only really use simple panels as doors, shelves, etc. Otherwise it bothers me too much. Honestly though, we reaaaaally need a furniture update! There's just way too few items!
I don’t like them when they are used to make full on cityscapes. I recently used them and the stalls to make a green house and it looks really cute. I also have plans to make a Warped Tour stage with them and the logo on it as the backdrop.
It’s really amazing what some people manage to do with them. But they’re not for me.
I wish we could paint the cliff walls it would make everything so easy
Don't worry, In 30 years I can expect nintendo *might* finally cave and let us rotate the camera.
I like it for the photo visuals but I agree that it's an unsatisfying look when you are walking around it in the game.
But you can pry my forced-perspective mini-neighborhood from my cold, dead hands.
I’ve used like 1k simple panels for a giant castle, you can’t stop me
1K?! you are so brave!
tbh i only used the panels to make menus for my cafe :P
That’s why I just sucked it up and made extra accounts to have houses to use. Sure, I don’t see my villagers in the coffee shop, but hey.
I love the creativity and effort everyone puts in to make their castles and buildings but all I can think to myself is, “how’s it look from a different angle?”
This pretty much puts that into words 😂😂
I cannot like them - I’ve tried so hard
I'm having trouble with my island, because while I don't have a problem with other people doing this obviously - I don't like seeing it mine that much, especially when the illusion is broken. And it's making my island a bit boring imo
Honestly, that's what i don't like about those forced perspective sections of towns. Like, does it look neat from the right angle? Absolutely. But it just feels weird knowing this big impressive structure is just a half space thick plank of wood.
I've only used 3 simple panels to make "liquor cabinets" for my bar, lol.
EDIT: I forgot I'm using some to cover up a cliff I designed as a pirate ship...
Kinda sums up the end game of AC which is both great and sad.
The only way for me to use the panels is as stained glass-windows! I always look at those castles and like and just think:" it must look super weird from the regular perspective 🤔"!
I always felt moats really help the castle look better.
This is exactly why I was very limiting when using custom designs, there’s a lot of creativity out there but you can only hide so much.
I think they're useful in certain situations, but I like my island looking good from all angles so I generally avoid them.
I find using panels is similar to when people decorate cake with fondant. You decorate a cake with fondant so that you can take nice pictures of it, but not so you can have a good cake (since the fondant tastes like sweet play-dough). The cake looks nice, but it's not as spectacular when you get into it.
I always found panels to be the same. You use them to take pretty pictures, but not to have an overall beautiful island. The second you get into the island and start running through it without the forced perspective, it doesn't look nearly as nice
I give the people who can use them effectively to create convincing illusions, but it doesn't work for me personally. I could make it look perfect, but knowing that it's not real just ruins it for me.
Awww shoot... was gonna post my shenanigans involving simple panels. I'm now even more painfully aware of how artificial they can be 😅💀
there's a reason i only use them as dividers and menu boards
Oh my gosh, I thought I was alone!!
The only place I have liked them is inside for a, like, room screen, and outside for a shower screen (using the customize cosmo shower)
Otherwise I think they look weird. I applaud those that can take pictures at specific angles to rock the look, but we don't play at that angle and so it would look like a fake movie set. Not. My. Deal.
I far prefer perspective change w/ the tiny vans and doll houses and servers that look like sky scrapers. They have DIMENSION
An island could look like that and Isabel would still say the island lacks appealing scenery
This in one of many reasons why I’ve never done this and only use simple panels inside or as outdoor movie screens
I think they can work really well when used judiciously. I wouldn't create something that only works when viewed head-on or only at night. But they are useful sometimes.
I feel like it blocks a lot of my sight on the island. Granted my island looks terrible but I hate the idea of having these 'blind spots' all over.
Yeah, I've never been able to get into that. It only looks good from one angle and I can justify it!
Every city is new pork city
I have a city island, lots of panels with window designs. I really enjoy it. At first i saw the phone booths and server items being used for buildings and back drops, I really disliked that and the only way to get the city feel I wanted was through simple panels. 🤷♂️ the game is limiting cant really do much about it if you want a certain look.
This is why I will *never* make a "fake" building in the game, because it looks ridiculous. Granted, I have simple panels around my orchard simply to make it seem more closed off, but that's it. I do *not* want a school and or castle that only looks good from one angle and weird from all others
Hey now. My mall wouldn't even begin to exist without my hundred something simple panels. And how else am I supposed to cover up tacky cliff walls lol.
Honesty, I only used them like once when I wanted to make a big menu/sign at a Cafe area. I think it does look pretty tacky when the panels aren't being used like...panels lol.
Does anyone know where this picture is from?
lmao so freakin true 😂😂😂
If we had more house styles then I could have a big house without making them with simple panels.
I have yet to run across them at nooks. I wanted them for an area I'm making but can't find them...
I also saw this cute idea for my house and want them for that.
They need to have actual “walls “ that you can either build or put up to make small buildings or whatever . That said I love the creativity of some folks and how they make a whole “mood “ with a few panels . I’ve been using them these past few days and am growing to really like them and customizing them to make certain vistas and moods
I hate them. The game already feels more like a dollhouse than a game and these do not help. They look fine in photos but if you move one step to the right and the illusion is ruined.
If only they looked good vertically and not just horizontally... or actually slid flush against cliffs! orz
I just wanted a town gate/wall, but the sides and corners look like such garbage I want to tear everything down again. It took sooo long ordering all those dumb things, I just kept going, hoping it would look better when finished. :'(
