This beautiful animal is the black-bellied pangolin. Having large scales which are often a rich ochre color w/ dark borders & the only species with black skin. It has 47 vertebrae in its tail, more than in the tail of any other mammal. This pangolin is highly adapted to moving between tree branches.
the pangolin is a shy mammal. most traffic animal - for their scales. people seem to think they can cure illness, but no scientific evidence to back it up.

***TO QUALIFY: The only species with black skin. I meant the only species of pangolin (among the 8) to have a black skin.***
* aka Long-tailed pangolin
* Listed as Vulnerable by IUCN. \[Eight species of pangolins are found on two continents. They range from **Vulnerable to Critically Endangered**.\]
* Tree-dwelling
* Habitat Range: Central/West Africa (from Sierra Leon to Ghana)
* Diet: Ant & Termites
* When threatened, pangolins roll into a ball. This helps them shield their stomach and face, which aren’t covered in protective scales.
And as usual, these are trafficked mainly for their scales, which are believed to treat a variety of health conditions in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and as a luxury food in Vietnam and China. In Africa, pangolins are sold as a form of bushmeat, for ritual or spiritual purposes, and use in traditional African medicine. Many times the animal is trafficked just for clothing and fashion.
makes me sad that these animals are driven to the brink of extinction.
there is no known therapeutic value considering the scales is made up of keratin like our nails/hair. doesn't make sense to me.
this species, black-bellied pangolin along with Temminck’s ground pangolin are listed as Vulnerable while most of its other relatives 3 of which are listed as Endangered (2 African:Giant ground & White-bellied Pangolin + 1 Asian: Indian Pangolin) & 3 Critically Endangered (all Asian Species: Chinese, Philippine & Sunda Pangolins).
I tell people pangolins are my second favorite animal and I usually get 2 responses: "what?" or "uhh, penguins?" and I'm like no, pangolins. a precious little mammal with scales like a frickin dragon 🖤

it also baffles me why they want to use the scales for med when it does not have any therapeutic value. and some eat the babies because they can. makes me sad.
Do you have a source re: the number of vertebra because I do not believe that at face value. Fair warning: I also do not know how many cats have but I _do_ know that number is ridiculous if you were comparing them to humans. (source: I've worked in spinal surgeries for over a decade)
Great now tell Me how to adopt this magnificent creature. I'm serious. ***I need it in my Life***
**i could sacrofice my Life in order to save one of those. or eat a spider if i must.**
**And if enyone would dare to harm it's kind, shall face my wrath**
there are host of conservation grps that promote saving the pangolin.
well you can go to WWF site, they have a program: symbolic adoption of a pangolin.
And just in case anyone reading this doesn't know, the pangolin has nothing that benefits people, including its meat and scales, no matter what you may have heard.
I’d never even heard of a pangolin until yesterday when I watched the pandemic special South Park. Things...happened...

Do you mean it’s the only species of pangolin with black skin ?
yes.

Pangolins are the most threatened species in the world due to hunting and poaching.
very true. help spread awareness.
There’s two kinds of perspectives of this post, people that have tried the pandemic special and people that haven’t
Aw, look how sweet. They don't bother anybody or hurt anybody. I wish they were left alone. What a magnificent cutie pie.
[Their babies are so odd looking](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/12807180168758108/)
thanks.
They also got some yuge knockers
It should be known that they are endangered and that they are the world's highest trafficked animal.
this species, black-bellied pangolin along with Temminck’s ground pangolin are listed as Vulnerable while most of its other relatives 3 of which are listed as Endangered (2 African:Giant ground & White-bellied Pangolin + 1 Asian: Indian Pangolin) & 3 Critically Endangered (all Asian Species: Chinese, Philippine & Sunda Pangolins).
It's too bad people kill them for their scales. Beautiful animal.
yea, pls help spread the awareness about these guys.
I thought polar bears also had black skin
yes they do. i meant among the 8 species of pangolin, this guy is the only species with black skin.
Pangolins are optimal armadillos
Nice tree tricks, but Armadillos are king of the underground.
I tell people pangolins are my second favorite animal and I usually get 2 responses: "what?" or "uhh, penguins?" and I'm like no, pangolins. a precious little mammal with scales like a frickin dragon 🖤
i didn't realize that pangolins are not widely known. these are awesome but shy animals. let's help spread awareness.

Love these little guys, they're so funky looking.
a bit odd-looking for a mammal. very shy critter.
Mobile pinecone.
It’s so sad these are the most trafficked animal species :( screw the exotic pet trade, medicine, “exotic meat”, etc.
it also baffles me why they want to use the scales for med when it does not have any therapeutic value. and some eat the babies because they can. makes me sad.
Wait don't polar bears have black skin to absorb heat from the fur which helps them blend in
yes, p bears have black skin. i meant among the 8 species of pangolin, this black bellied pangolin is the only one with black skin.
Polar bears have black skin and some chickens do to.. so
yes, p bears have black skin. i meant among the 8 species of pangolin, this black bellied pangolin is the only one with black skin.
The most trafficked animal in the world
What happen to the polar bear having black skin too?
polars do have black skin. i meant, among the other 7 pangolin species, the black-bellied pangolin is the only species with black skin.
I bet this thing has abs of steel
haha. nope soft-bellied, that's why it curls up when threatened. to protect its head & tummy from predators.
What a cute pinecone badger
“Don’t eat those” -2019

I read that as “I don’t know how many cats I have...”
I’ve always thought pangolins looked like a cross between insects, reptiles and mammals.
Great now tell Me how to adopt this magnificent creature. I'm serious. ***I need it in my Life*** **i could sacrofice my Life in order to save one of those. or eat a spider if i must.** **And if enyone would dare to harm it's kind, shall face my wrath**

Cool, but can it pick coconuts?

did the vid at least match the description?
Such a beautiful animal
I feel like it really needs a belly rub
Go, little guy, go! It's so freaking cute xD
What about that chicken that is all black?
yes + polars. but what i meant was that among the 8 pangolin species, this black-bellied pangolin is the only having black skin.
Such an interesting animal, are there other mammals with scales?
well, technically this is the only one with scales.
the armadillo call theirs as shells.
I have an irrational love of pangolins, they're so frigging cute!!!
Moves like an inch worm
STEP AWAY FROM THE PANGOLINS
Awwww yeah! I love pangolins!

Whoa, Black Betty (Pangolin) Whoa, Black Betty (Pangolin) Black Betty had a child (Pangolin) The damn thing gone wild (Pangolin)
Is it me or does anybody else get really nauseous the more you look at the scales?
Dammit South Park!
Don’t let the police see this fella
Unfortunately they are being illegally hunted to extinction. For ridiculous fake medicinal purposes.
Now the question is, will this miraculously make my schlong bigger?
Beautiful hate to think of people eating them😞
I love pangolins! I have a stuffed one my boyfriend got me
And just in case anyone reading this doesn't know, the pangolin has nothing that benefits people, including its meat and scales, no matter what you may have heard.
Bro, that’s a sandshrew
I wonder what they taste like...
What natural predators can get through the scales?
jaguar.
Thats an inchworm armadillo! You cant fool me
There are other animals that have black skin though, such as the Polar Bear.
correct. what i meant was among the 8 species, this is the only species having the black skin.
Ah great the thing that started the whole damn pandemic
Looks delicious
naw you vulturesq :)
When you realize this is the most illegally trafficked animal on the planet yet gets no attention...
why do you think is that? not cute enough?
Don’t show this video to Randy or Mickey Mouse

And very endangered!
