How does one adopt a golden? Just... luck one happened to be in the shelter?
I love my golden like I love my children, I’m a grown man who gets gifted Golden statues and shirts with Golden’s on them and shit, I just can’t believe you found one in a shelter.
I can't find an updated snow pic that doesn't have my kid's face in it, but [here's him being really proud of the paper mess he made! ](https://i.imgur.com/Tzm8Hph.jpg) He's almost 15 month old now and 90lbs of pure happiness lol
E: I can't edit the title but I realize that I should not have used the word adoption. He's not a rescue, he's from a breeder. I wasn't trying to be misleading, I assume everyone knows I didn't get a golden puppy at a rescue shelter...I do have 2 other dogs that are both rescues, every dog I've had besides Buddy has been a rescue, so it's just a word I use in habit I guess. I apologize, I should've been more careful with my words.
Thanks for the clarification, but there are breed specific rescues. They seldom have puppies available, though. Regardless, he's a very handsome pupper! 🥰
While OP owned it and is taking their lumps for the word "adoption"... there is a path to adopting a Golden if your heart desires! I don't have a ton of knowledge on this as my dogs have always come from a local shelter but Turkey has a lot of golden's that are in need of adoption:

Golden Retriever temperament is not suited for street life so they really do need help and if you're 'shopping' for a Golden, this might be a cool option for you
EDIT: I'd also just say, while I don't believe in purchasing a dog, I wish people would consider that they only have a finite amount of energy to give every single day and a lot of you are choosing to just be mean. Okay, 'adopt don't shop' but what are you *actually doing* to help. Are you volunteering? Are you donating? Are you writing politicians to ban backyard breeders? Or are you just being mean to a stranger on the internet...
Though I understand "adopted" and "bought" are completely different words when it comes to getting pets, but technically buying a pet is adoption too. You are adopting a baby that's not yours.
Idk. I'm not a native English speaker. Just making a stupid guess 😅
THAT FACE! Omg I just wanna squeeze him. I so want a Golden someday. I got a Newfie already, so I kinda want a Yin Yang thing going lol. They look like they'd be friends.
Dude today is my dogs 5 year adoption anniversary lol. She’s gonna be getting several hours worth of walking, going to the dog park, and a lot of treats.
The amount of people giving you shit for using the word adoption speaks volumes. They need to get off their high horse and find something better to get annoyed about rather than trying to flex this “holier than thou” attitude on a stranger.
Your dog is adorable, he looks very happy. You should be proud!
Well, some people take pride in knowing they went to some sort of length to save an animal from not so ideal conditions. That is why they put so much meaning in that word.
He is too adorable and seems to really enjoy the snow! Lots of love to you, precious Buddy!

They commented saying they actually bought the dog.

My dog is named buddy too. I named him after air bud when I was like 6. He is 14 now.
You are the bestest boy Buddy!! 🙂❤️
What a good boy, he looks like a lotta fun
"adoption"
Gotta be PC to get the sweet internet points
When you buy from a breeder but want to sound noble "adoption"
One of my big pet peeves. People will "rescue" pets from breeders too lmao
Buddy looks like the sweetest boy!!
Give this dog head pats. Nowwwww
Gooood booy! Give him a treat for me!
Hey everyone! I **adopted** this dog at 8 weeks old from a breeder for $3,000! Aren’t I so amazing for **adopting** him? :)
Holy fuck do Goldens cost that much?
This picture is very good.
My dogs name is buddy

He’s absolutely precious
Awww I used to have an Australian Shepherd named buddy. He passed away 4ish years ago. He was such a good boy. Thanks for the reminder of him :)
Dear buddy, I will never meet you, but you are a good boy. Keep being a good pup. We all love you.
So cute!❤️ He looks very happy :)
You can just say your dog is cute without implying you saved a homeless dog. For shame.
OP admitted the dog was from a breeder in the comments too.
THAT FACE! Omg I just wanna squeeze him. I so want a Golden someday. I got a Newfie already, so I kinda want a Yin Yang thing going lol. They look like they'd be friends.
You spelled “purchased” wrong
Lol
Congrats! I have a 3 legged pit named buddy that I adopted about 7 years ago
Awwwwwwwww so cute!
Ah love this buddy!
Buddy is a beautiful Pupper... I too have a 90lb Golden bundle of happiness (and stupidity)
He’s so cute. I want a dog so badly. I miss Spanky (my little rascal!)
Buddy's a sweetheart ❤️❤️❤️
Adorable 🥺
How do people find such non-ugly dogs up for adoption?
There’s actually tons of pure bred dogs up for adoption through breed-specific rescues, it’s just exceptionally rare to find them as puppies.
That being said you can find plenty of cute mutt puppies through rescues/shelters too!
yeah the dog is cute but look at that neat snow
What a precious baby boy!
Looks like the goodest boy out there
What a cute dog!!!! My little pup is coming up in a year as well!!
Dude today is my dogs 5 year adoption anniversary lol. She’s gonna be getting several hours worth of walking, going to the dog park, and a lot of treats.
Tell Buddy we love him

Happy Anniversary! Adopting a shelter dog was one of the best decisions of my life.
They bought it lol
