Its a legitimately fun giant monster movie if you can just kind of look past the fact that it’s called “Godzilla”. As it’s own thing I think it’s perfectly edible schlock.
It’s not stupid if it’s something you hold value to. Zilla isn’t the most loved but it’s still a hell of a cool thing to own. Mines isn’t as cool as yours but I still have a Zilla foot from a toy that my late uncle had given to me.
So I take it this is from the 1/6th scale animatronic, since the suite was never used.
It's a cool thing to have, I liked the monster design as a monster and the marketing around it.
“
This is a mini display containing an actual piece of Godzilla skin from the production of the 1998 film Godzilla! The display measures at about 4" x 2" and contains a piece of Godzilla skin inside a plastic cardholder with C.O.A on the back. Note that your piece may vary! An easel may be needed to allow the display to stand.
Not every effect in the film was CGI. Miniatures, suits, and animatronics (though later enhanced with CGI) were used during production. This piece of foam skin comes from a much larger piece ripped off of one of the suits/animatronics from production.
This piece of Godzilla was kept by Electric Entertainment, a company owned by Godzilla Co-Producer Dean Devlin. Unfortunately, eBay no longer allows sellers to include exact copies of certain original C.O.As. As such, this comes with a Certificate of Authenticity like the one shown in the images (It will come signed).
A LITTLE ABOUT THE REAL REEL PROPS: Most of the items here are from a personal collection and are predominately obtained from other collectors from restoration projects, pieces from damaged items, etc. Much of the items come from some of the most trusted collectors and dealers in the hobby. The Real Reel Props has been collecting for nearly 10 years and only now has decided to sell the items on this page at some the most unbeatable prices out there.”
There's a chance this is faked, but it's most likely legit. Often times once a movie wraps, if stuff doesn't go to an archive, it either gets chucked or they sell it (or people take stuff home, although that's unlikely in the case of a like forty foot tall animatronic).
But like, there are companies that buy these props and costumes and slice them up and sell them at gift shops and shit.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/373446343942 here’s the exact listing from RealReelProps who has an almost 98% approval rating and tons of other props for sale on their page
As much hate as people give it. Zilla was actually a good stand alone movie which is what it’s supposed to be it’s not meant to look 100% like Godzilla it doesn’t have atomic breath or fight massive three headed dragons from outer space with a mecha suit, zilla it’s a somewhat believable creature (apart from the fire breath although creatures have many weird abilities this ones just higher up there) and that’s just cool to me
can't tell if people desperately trying to call this $14 product out as a fake (as if it matters that much lmao) are jealous or just dumb, considering how often late 90s-early 2000s productions sold off cards with screen used material. star trek is a good example to show how regularly sales like this were made and how affordable said items were.
Honestly, this seems real. The reason for the cheaper price is that it’s from an unused prop in a movie that isn’t very well liked. I checked the sellers other stuff and they have authentic items with a more expected price, but they’re all from very popular movies, such as Alien and A Nightmare on Elm Street. In my honest opinion as a collector, this is most likely real.
I got it on eBay but before you tell me it’s fake I don’t care if it is or isn’t, it’s made me and almost 1000 people a little happier than they were before they saw it so that’s real enough for me
A screen-used piece of Godzilla skin from the Japanese films is one of the things I hope to own someday. Haven't even bothered to look into it because I'm sure it'd be hard to find and even harder to verify that it was the real deal
So hold the phone...
They did use some sort of Practical Effect in a sense? Like an Animatronic, a Puppet, Skin Suit Test type of deal? If so... I think that's cool

Yeah it seems that at the very least this has brought up a discussion about how this movie isn’t that bad and a lot of people actually do seem to like it
I had a film cell from opening night up until a little over 3 years ago. I always loved it because I just love everything Godzilla even tho we all walked out of theatres calling it a bad Jurassic park sequel.
Hank Azaria rules.
Even if this is fake it brought a smile to almost 1000 peoples faces, it started an almost 100 comment discussion about the merits and positive parts of the 98 movie and resulted in dozens of people sharing good memories of their childhood
THAT COST ME $14
If a fake Godzilla skin for $14 can do this much good then I honestly hope it is fake because I don’t care either way. I love it and for $14 consider it one of the best things I have ever bought and worth every penny

Also to all the haters I just went back and bought MORE stuff from this guy. He has wood shavings from the cabin from Friday The 13th. I hope those are fake too!!!! 😀😀😀😀😀
Folks are calling fake, but I still think that if someone wanted to make bootleg Godzilla props, they'd at least claim it came from a Godzilla movie with a better reputation.
And in the event that it *is* fake, it's still a neat conversation piece. Could always joke how this is how they dealt with Zilla's body at the end of the flick.
Exactly and they charged $14. I’m almost positive it’s real. From the listing-

Why’s everyone busting his balls and claiming that it’s fake. Calm down, people, and let him enjoy it. There’s no way to know if it’s fake, so let it be.
This is without doubt the most popular thing I have ever posted on Reddit. I’m not sure but I think a few have hit close to 500 upvotes but I have never got 600. It makes me so happy that you guys enjoy this
Welcome to /r/GODZILLA, a place to admire the King of the Monsters and his many foes! If you haven't already, please read through the rules located on the sidebar. For Mobile users you can find them on the top right of the app (3 dots) under "Community Info"
That’s pretty neat. Do you remember how much it cost?
Yeah I just got it today. I paid $14 for it lmao
Now you should make a Biollante '98 with it.
SPACEZILLA INCOMING
Even tho it's one of the most hated Godzilla movie, this is still actually kind of cool

Oh I joke when I say that I actually love this thing. And thank you for sharing your story, I’m glad this could bring up a happy memory for you
I'm glad Zilla '98 came out because we were blessed with the animated series that was fire
It sure was?!
ThAt’S fAkE GoDzIlLa IsN’t ReAl
LoL
May have been a lame movie for the G-Man but it was a really fun movie for campy characters. They were oddly likable.
And as a fan of the Simpsons at the time I guess I can say it was kind of cool to see most of the cast in a live action movie
What part of the body is the skin from? *foreskin*
Hey-O! I mean it’s possible lmao
So I take it this is from the 1/6th scale animatronic, since the suite was never used. It's a cool thing to have, I liked the monster design as a monster and the marketing around it.
I thought the suit was used for the shot where Zilla bites the fish truck? Or was that the animatronic?
I think that’s actually really effing cool
I do too I was very much kidding
Maybe you can Biollante with that “sample!” ;)
😈 a couple people have suggested this lol
Not gonna lie, I would be proud too
I can’t wait to finish my Godzilla display so I can show it off proper
Is it from an animatronic or suit or something used in the movie? Also i never knew you could get these and I'm wondering how you did.

What body of authority issues certification on chunks of props? Or where do these guys get their authority on authenticity I should ask

Same here. I think that film was the first Godzilla movie I ever watched
That’s soooo coool! Do you know from what scene itvis?
No but if you look at the second picture it explains a little about where it came from
Thats real nifty.
Thank you
That is pretty fantastic!
Thank you!
nice.
Thank you!
Be careful It’s radioactive
It could be 😂
Give me my fucking skin back
Never!! 😈😈

You are the seller, aren't you? Selling fake shit on eBay and promoting it here.
I mean, it's pretty cool to have anything from a Godzilla set.
I agree
Pretty sure you got scammed

Me too even if it is apparently fake

They really selling Godzilla’s foreskin flaps to the public
I’ll take 6!
Though people love to hate this film, it is what got me into Godzilla so it will always hold a special place in my heart. This is awesome man!

Least favorite Godzilla, but a piece of Godzilla is a piece of Godzilla and I’m kinda jealous now
Hahaha thank you. You can still get one yourself
I love this movie and no one can tell me different and this is really cool
That’s the attitude to have! If you like something fuck everyone else
Zilla skin****
😯
People who like Godzilla 1998:HoW mUcH????
Apparently a lot of people like this one lol
you mean, "used piece of Zilla skin"
Sure
At least the series was good. Right?
The animated one?
For how garbage of a movie it is, Thats really cool.
Thank you I think so, and how bad the movie is makes me like it even more lol
Enough time has passed that Godzilla ‘98 has now become awesome - in its own way.
It was my first introduction into Godzilla so it'll always have a place in my heart
