It has a proper medical name. Not sure what it is. Every time I take a step, the air is sucked out of the socket. That ensures that there aren't any air pockets or gaps that would irritate my skin from friction.
What’s the vacuum pump for? Also congrats 🎉
Pulls air and sweat out of the socket. Keeps my skin from getting irritated. And thanks!
And also wear those sweet kicks!
I've had to wear ugly orthopedic shoes for 8 years. First thing I'm buying is new shoes.
I saw someone on my city riding a bike with such a prosthetic once and I just thought he looked so cool, like a human robobot. Definitely have to honour your new gear by wearing shorts!
I love showing it off!
So happy to hear people can have prosthetics without being hurt! I always thought it wouls be painful. Congratulations with your ability to walk again! So sad you had to wait 8 years for it
Sadly many amputees do have to deal with pain. I am as lucky as an amputee can be. Thanks!
Smokin'. Worked with a guy who had an early version, he could run faster than me. HR jumped in our shit because we talked pirate at work. Y'know, peg leg and all. 'Arrr, matey. Where be the Aetna file?' 'In me desk with me other booty.' 'Booty, ye scurvy dog?'
Sounds like one time me and a friend got reprimanded at work for laugh together because "customers might see us having fun." No lie. It's cool y'all could kid about it. Fuck HR.
That prosthetic must’ve costed you an arm and a leg
I get the joke but real talk, this thing would have been 14k without insurance.
im so happy for you!
Whats it like to live with? I was diagnosed with charcot-marie tooth disease recently so they realised after 21 years i need my foot cutting off to stop my limp and pain. And i am wondering how life is without it. Many thanks for any responses :)
Life is different. Not worse. Just different. There will be pain at first. You will be uncomfortable for awhile. After that goes away and you're truly pain free for the first time, it's amazing. There are some things that are a pain in the ass (showering/waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and having to use crutches) but other than that I feel like a normal person when I have my prosthetic on. If you have any other questions at any time, feel free to ask.
Time to upload a happy tippy tap video!
That’s great! Use it well and best wished. 👍😉😎
This is awesome! Congratulations and many happy years of pain - free walking!
As someone who is living with pain right now, I cannot imagine the fortitude required to keep on keepin' on, when every step is painful, for 8 fucking years. It's just been a couple of months for me and I'm ready to destroy something. I am so glad you're pain free now.
You'd be surprised what you can get used to when you have no choice. I wish you the best of luck.
Have they send you an invitation to join the local Cyborg or Transhumanism club?
P.S. Congratulations on getting rid of pain!
Not yet but I'm waiting for it! Thank you.
My uncle just got the same kind of thing. He had insisted on using a literal peg leg for the longest time. Till his doc bullyed him into try one out.
Jeez. A peg leg would be damn near impossible to walk on.
Wow cool! You’re like a robot! Is there anything that it can do that a normal can’t do?
No super powers, sadly.
Wow, so happy for you. Many comfortable and pain free years for you from now on!
That’s awesome! I’m happy for you!
My uncle had my then 5 year old daughter convinced he had rockets attached and that there was a bottle opener, etc. His go go gadget leg. It was a sweet thing to do to make her less scared. It backfired she was always asking for a turn with it lol. Super excited for you and this pain free mobility you have squired.
Must have cost you an arm and a leg.
There was a memorial day half off sale, so it only cost him the leg.
Will you also get an oak one, with cavity inside for Whisky or Rum?
Fun fact. If you're willing to pay extra they can make your socket out of wood. Takes a looooong time.
Dude my brother has a prosthesis and has been looking for the right fit for years. Could you DM me, I’d love to pick your brain....it’s really destroying his quality of life and any advice would be much appreciated.
Permanent? As in its fixed to your leg?
No it just means that this leg is supposed to last me a long time. The first leg you get is just to learn with. Kinda like training wheels.
Good luck with the new rig. Cool foot. I lost my left leg below the knee. I have a pin lock system. I’m using an Ossur Pro Flex Torsion. Looks a lot like yours. It’s a lot more quite too. I read all of your replies. You did a great job answering them. I didn’t learn to walk as quick as you but it only took a few days to learn. What a rush it was with the first step.
The only thing I wish was different on mine is it having a pin lock system. I have too many skin issues to have it.
Can i ask how it compares to a real leg?
It's the next best thing! Lol
If you were to gain weight and your leg changed shape would you have to get a new one or is there a way to be refitted for the same prosthetic?
They can refit it. Unless the weight change is drastic, it really doesn't make a difference. The muscle atrophies and the leg "stabalizes".
What is the vacuum pump for and how does the rotation of the ankle help.
The vacuum eliminates air pockets and sucks out the sweat. Both of which cause skin irritation. The rotation of the ankle makes it much easier to walk on uneven surfaces and makes for a more natural walking motion.
Thats ultra cool man!!
Im sorry to ask, but do you feel like a cyborg? Just a little bit?
Not really but I am getting this strange urge to kill John Connor.
If you don’t mind me asking (You don’t have to answer) what happened to your leg? Again sorry if this question makes you uncomfortable.
It doesn't with me but I wouldn't ask just any amputee you see that question. Chances are that you're asking them to tell you about the most traumatic thing that ever happened to them. In my case, I was in a car accident 8 years ago. My foot and ankle were crushed. They tried to salvage my lower leg, but the bones ended up going necrotic and I developed hellacious arthritis.
have fun champ!
Awesome! Technology rocks!
This also means that every pair of socks u buy will actually be a sock with a spare sock ;)
Nope. There is actually a mock foot on my prosthetic. I can wear matching socks!
There's a dude in my town with, and I am NOT making this up, a PVC pipe for a prosthetic leg. He works at one of the Domino's Pizza franchises here.
That is so freaking awesome!
Congrats! My brother is a BTK amputee and I’ve been through his entire journey with him from surgeries to physical therapy to prosthetics. This is huge in terms of mobility and quality of life and I know it means a lot for your independence. And it’s awesome to finally reach the stage where you get your permanent foot and socket. What a great feeling!
On a serious note, that’s frickin awesome! On a less than serious note, as soon as I read vacuum pump I just thought “bro just got after market suspension”. Wonder if you could get Fox Racing to sponsor you for that sweet ass off road gear.
You drooped this 👑
When you say permanent do you mean it’s the type that they have a bolt in your leg? Wondering because my Dad has a prosthetic that causes him lots of issues because he is very active. I’m trying to find an alternative to what he has now. He’s not able to get the one that they bolt the leg for because of his life style (base jumping and rock climbing)
Wai kewl! Have my free award! Glad you’re able to walk again! Can I ask, are you a military vet of some sort?
No but I get that a lot. Especially in restaurants. I had a meal comped for me one time bc they assumed I was military. Very awkward when I told them that I wasnt.
It’s amazing how resilient we can be when we don’t have any other choice
Really. I have to reiterate. I am extremely lucky as far as my amputation goes. There are other amputees far tougher/braver/more resilient than I am. I'm just a one legged dumbass lol.
I hope you do badass Halloween costumes
I feel like I've been pigeonholed into a pirate or robot lol.
Do you shower with it?
I have a question, doesn’t it hurt when you walk with it? I always thought that since the prosthetic is placed on the amputated part of your thigh, when you stand on it your body weight would be exerted onto the prosthetic and it would push against your thigh, just jabbing it painfully?
How does it feel to be a cyborg?
Skynet is actually a pretty cool guy...
Break a leg!
Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic man. Vir804 will be that man.
If you’re still in school you should turn the ankle 180 degrees and see how long it takes for your teacher/professor to notice
Congrats! Happy for you and your newfound pain free freedom!
Looking good, my man!
God bless you ☺️
That’s awesome my friend! Wishing you the all the happiness for all your future walks!
You have a cooler leg than me. Good for you. You are killing it.
Congratulations it looks amazing
Congratulations bud hope you enjoy it
This is awesome to see!

Pain sucks and it is exhausting and if you can walk around pain free then that is a huge win! Congratulations!
This made me Sappy
Good for you!! What a relief, I’m sure.
Genos is that you?
That's awesome! I am glad you are no longer in pain.
Hell yeah. Enjoy your walks, m8.
Nice stem you got there!
Happy for you. Thats great :-)
Congrats! That sounds awesome!
Such awesome news! Hope it serves you well :D
Wohoo! Three more limbs, and you'll be totally bionic!
For the machine is Immortal
That’s awesome! Congratulations!
Oh that’s amazing!
So happy for you! Nothing like pain ruining our day.
This is so cool. Congrats:)
If only Terry Fox could have lived to see how fae prosthetic technology has come...
Hell yeah dude! Enjoy your new pain free life!
Can you kick someone to death?
I suppose I could, in theory.
