I'm gonna go against the grain a bit here and say that while House of M is indeed an excellent story, as an alternate universe type story, it helps to know what the characters were like beforehand to really appreciate how different they are in HoM. So I'd like to recommend Avengers Disassembled as the lead-in to House of M, and X-Men Messiah Complex as the post-House of M follow up. My favorite version of Cyclops happened during Messiah Complex, Utopia, and Schism directly because of House of M.
Absolutely correct. You need the context for sure. I highly recommend reading Disassembled before House of M.
If have to recommend reading avengers disassembled first.
I've been thinking of doing that tbh. As even though House of M is the first one I've ever really bought myself, I do have a small pile of comic books that I got from my uncles a long time ago, that I've never really sat down to read, so I may spend time going through those before AD and HoM.
It's a great story. One of the arcs that got me into comics. Enjoy!
Yeah shop I bought it in, the guy who recommended it said it was really good :) Thanks, I will :) I needed more than just the movies for material and origin type stuff lol Civil War will be my next pick-up, next week 😁
Yo!!! I also just picked up my first comic book (7 in fact lol) must be that time of the year
Haha yeah must be. I've also started my Pop! Collection over the last week, so I thought, why not go with the comic books too lol
Excellent choice. Fear itself is one I would recommend
Never read Fear Itself but I recently got Marvel Unlimited so I’ll be checking that out directly.
Really good comic!
i really love house of m. read it over and over. one of my faves.
Great book, Changed everything for years to come.
It's true. Shoot, you can almost say that it's still relevant to things happening in X-Men today. Krakoa wouldn't even need to be a major player right now if it wasn't for House of M.
That was my first too, I started in comics last year and I can’t stop reading them now
Hope you survive the experience
literally just finished avengers disassembled today, hoping to get this next !
Tis a great one
I think I started with The Astonishing Spider-man
Astonishing Spider-Man? I honestly haven't heard of that one before tbh lol
Yo less go! Good read and happy to see more people buying comics! Hope you enjoy it, I sure did!
I'm sure I will :) Really wanna read into all the different timelines/multiverses about the different variations in certain characters 😁
Excellent choice. Next for you needs to be the The Vision, Disassembled, and Civil War.
Yeah 2 of those I already plan on getting soon! I'll deffo add The Vision to the list :)
This is a great story
Lol why is Logan posed like a thirst trap?
🤣🤣🤣 Dem thighs doe 😍😍😍🤣🤣🤣
great choice and welcome!
A wonderful story.. One of my favourites!!
You’re going to be so lost… Lots of additional context/reading is going to be needed!
But that’s also how I experienced it, so have fun!
Yeah I know haha That's why I may leave reading it until I get other comics book to provide the context beforehand and after lol
I liked it a lot as a teenager but over the years I really think that it did the Scarlet Witch dirty and Wanda has been sort of typecast as mad woman, victim, a naive accomplice to someone else’s scheme, or mutant boogie woman Antichrist ever since. Like none of what happens in the series is her fault, >!she’s goaded by Quicksilver into rewriting existence!< but everyone in later books holds her responsible for >!the M-Day Decimation that depowers 97% of Earth’s mutants!<.
I read it for the first time a few months ago. I really enjoyed it.
This was my first one many moons ago, excellent choice 👏
Great choice on your first!
This one is my all time fave! I hope you enjoy it.
One of my favorite arcs of all time.
good choice great story!
Good story but not really the best place to start, if you like Xmen stuff best place to start is New Xmen by Grant Morrison
I do like X-Men, I've seen a few different X-Men comic books, like the Avengers vs X-Men one that kinda looks like more of an encyclopedia or something lol
Definitely a great one! If you’re starting here though, you definitely need to carry on reading through the rest of the saga up to Avengers vs X-men. X-men: Messiah Complex and Second Coming are two of my favs.
I just want to see wolverine Spider-Man and hulk battle it out.
And a damn good one to start with as well. Might get a bit confusing though
Yeah maybe lol I am thinking of waiting until I get Avengers Disassembled first for the context :)
That’s an excellent first story have fun!
Once you’re done the next major event is Civil War… so keep going after!
Yup, that's my next purchase 😁
I highly recommend Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe such a fun story
Cool! I'll add that to the list 😎
Good story. I highly recommend reading young avengers, then the children's crusade after this.
starting with the classics, I see. kudos
When i decide too actually get into marvel im probably gonna start with AVX I enjoy dc more though
I was looking at the AVX book today in the shop, I do wanna get that at some point! I like DC too, mainly for Batman. But I'm mainly Marvel for Spidey 😁
Awesome! Good for you! ☺️
The Quicksilver book after this is pretty f'n depressing.
I recall that scene where wolverine is on his knees clearly in despair and says something like "My life... I remember all of it..."
Can someone tell me what arc follows into this? I never did chase this down.
Are you me?! I just got this exact version as well!
One of my faves. Enjoy the rabbit hole it leads you down.
This one has a really good storyline, I would also recommend the original secret wars, it’s a bit expensive so try and find it online somewhere
Cheers for the recommendation dude! I'll have a look about for it :)
House of M was dope, really makes me sad that Disney could have stayed more true to the storyline with WandaVision and used it as a way to introduce mutants to the MCU
I get why they adapted the general concept and not the actual story, one of the main issues I've always had with House of M is that despite it being fashioned as the big Scarlet Witch story she herself is more of a plot device in it.
Wandavision actually puts the focus on Wanda herself, it doesn't hijacking her story to backdoor mutants, Fantastic Four, multiverse...ect but instead for the first time actually stops and explores her thoughts and feelings and lets us understand her grief and reasons for why she reached a point where she felt she could only live in a reality she created for herself.
I also appreciate that she has actual agency in the show (its not because her brother/father were whispering in her ear) and avoids the powerful women=crazy cliché, she both the one that causes the problem due to her powers going awry but is also the one who has that resolves it in the end by taking control and embracing it.
I'm sorry that your first comic is this terrible mess.
Soooo many tie ins
Ohh I'm well aware haha But I'm looking forward to getting into a whole lot of it 😁
Welcome to the fold, sugar!
So I’ve been thinking about reading comic books because I’m a big MCU fan and want more. Where do I start? What’s the first one I should read?
