Nobody should be allowed an opinion even if i agree with it
In my opinion, I think everyone should have the right to say what they think, at the condition that I have the right to tell them to fuck off.
Okay but Paramount+ removing the panty raid episode of spongebob is literally 1984
I will never censor your freedom of speech, but its not censorship for me to say what you think is bad and you should feel bad
Absolutely. Free speech goes both ways. I have a right to my opinion and you have every right to say what you think about that.
Where it crosses the line is when it turns into persistent harassment, doxxing, threats, deplatforming, going for peoples jobs (at least when they’re not speaking as a representative of that corporation/institution) etc.
I had freedom of speech drilled into me at an early age. "I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll fight to the death for your right to say it." Remember when the ACLU used to fight for the rights of neonazi groups to gather and demonstrate - because to censor them would be to suggest that we were afraid that we couldn't refute what they had to say? That's when I got on board.
I trust all of humanity to be smarter than any one of us: that's what democracy and free speech means. I'm wrong about stuff: not on purpose, but because I'm human. So are you. So is everyone. Our only shot at being less wrong about stuff is not only to let people say stuff we disagree with, but to actually hear it and give it a fair shot.

Nope, censorship is extremely unbased
only 1984 i fw is 1984 mya
I need a translation
The only type of censorship that should be permitted is slander and even then only when it can be shown (in a completely transparent manner) to be false and impacts the subject negatively. Or in simple terms “violates the nap”.
Edit: to be clear I’m talking about censorship in the form of an authority(government or otherwise) compelling a company or individual to censor their content. A company or individual should have full domain over what is presented on their platform. Yes we live in a society with tech monopolies that have way to much power over societal dialogue. No they shouldn’t lose control of their platforms because of this, we should however correct the broken system that empowers these monopolies to act without consequence.
Also censorship against the unflaired. You forgot that one.
I love seeeing left leaning individuals talk about how their ideas aren't enticing enough to exist in a fair playing ground against nazis.
The sad part is the ideas can often hold up just fine, I've had some great debates with borderline commies before. The difference is we had mutual respect for each other and were able to spend our time attacking the other's points and beliefs instead of just attacking each other.
Unfortunately the moment you try to do that with most people on Reddit, their first response is either a personal attack about you/your personality/your family or lumping you in with another group of people completely unrelated to the topic (Trump supporters or Nazis are common ones, of which I am neither) which therefore means your opinions are invalid.
The worst enemy of moderate and socially conservative leftists are the lunatic progressives that have taken over this site and college campuses. Ideas about the improvement of the lives of the poor and the working class have been pushed to the back burner while people talk about race and idpol 24/7
This is metaphorically 1984
I'm normally the 'disagree with what you have to say but fight for your right to say it' but fuck I am glad I don't have to hear about what Trump is tweeting anymore.
So I guess I am in this picture.
I believe that everyone, including authoritarians, should be able to have free speech
1984 is based
**based, 1984 is.**
^(Commands: 'opt out', 'delete')
Censorship is never based
Censorship is always cringe. Because then i cant call nazis retarfed and beat their ass
The best part of freedom of speech is it gives you this novel power to know who is really a douche by letting them rabble on and listening to them. The moment you censor someone it gives them validation.
But with that being said, we do need to do something about slander and libel laws and giving them some teeth.
Freedom of speech is freedom of speech. Banning certain people from social media is fucked, honestly reckon social media as a whole should be banned.
Thats not a very centrist take
A tiny part?
If the last few years have taught us anything, I would say it is a big part
Populism(left and right variety) has destroyed every single democracy in history. But without that, democracy would turn useless as nobody would care as there would be nobody fighting for what the people want.
So it's a difficult question.
Freedom of speech is literally 1984.
I wish all people that promote censorship a very pleasant die
1984 is socialist.
Always 1984. Either always leads to 1984
This some auth unity bs
Nah, I like seeing the hammer and sickle and the swastika, I think they are cool symbols and if that triggers you, you’re a grade A r word
There are almost no people on the planet who care about personal freedom for things like speech and expression. Everyone claims to, until they encounter something they find abhorrent. True freedom of speech supporters are limited to a tiny subset of American libertarians. Everyone else on the planet is
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T BE ALLOWED TO SAY *THAT*! SOMEONE ARREST AND CANCEL HIM!
Based . If only more people understood this
certainly, though through introspection and discussion we all work to keep our beliefs consistent and logically justifiable. stay based, kings and queens.
Censorship is always unbased
Based : tending to yield one outcome **based** upon previous fact : having an expected outcome
**Bias** definition is - an inclination of temperament or outlook defined from ones own experiences : but not which is expected or desired by the individual
Censorship in all forms is unbased and cringepilled.
Censorship is never OK. A private company doing what they want with their own property isn't censorship.
Censorship is censorship whether a private company, a private citizen, or the government does it. The issue is whether we collectively condone it.
