You can't post this [without the clip of the huge pop he got](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02WUftADD28). The following ECW show, [where he gets awarded the ECW Title](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QN8AwFnGxg) was fun one as well. *And look at this one … It spins!*
“Heh heh, I guess, alright” is now my new favourite commentary call for a championship win ever
CENA WINS WE RIOT
There’s a few folks here that like to piss on other fans, and some say that those fans wouldn’t riot. . .
It’s Hammerstein Ballroom. There would’ve been a riot. If fights break out at the parties held there, I wouldn’t put it past drunk sport fans to start swinging.
15 years wtf
Right man. I’m old.
The edit on Justin Credible's shirt makes me laugh.
also is he drinking a caffeine free diet coke? what a madlad
One of the best to do it
The whole f'n show
Biggest shame of this match was Edge's interference to keep Cena protected. That moment was edited in RVD's legends bio episode.
I wish it was far more common to announce a cash-in in advance like it had been done here.
Cena is so good in this match it’s crazy, RVD holds his own but Cena did everything right to play into the crowd the way he did. On paper, this should be one of Cena’s toughest matches because of the crowd but he turns it on it’s head perfectly.
After handling the brutal Chicago crowd a few months earlier at Wrestlemania 22, Cena was truly untouchable. That match with HHH is good on the Network/DVD but the original broadcast had a LOT more "Fuck you, Cena" chants that were later edited out.
The atmosphere on those shows was something else
My roommate was 100% a 1980s WWF kid. I mean, so was I but I branched out. He had refused to watch WCW and barely knew of ECW's existence.
Thanks to Wrestlemania 20 we'd gone a local theater to watch every PPV. This included both the first One Night Stand (still my personal favorite PPV of all-time) and this one. Going into these shows, he thought everything that was being said about ECW fans was the usual wrestling hyperbole to overhype something.
The crowds for these two shows BROUGHT. IT. And educated my unprepared roommate on just what he missed.
#WHOLE 🙌 FUCKING🙌 SHOW🙌
I couldn't believe that they've put the title on him. I was so high on RVD since 2001. The atmosphere that night was like no other.
> I was so high
so was RVD
One thing that sticks out to mind before the match was the fans sending such big heat to Cena like they really had it out for him with such ferocity, with very loud boos and chanting “FUCK YOU CENA!” Cena throws his shirt into the crowd, only to get boos, the fans chanting “THROW IT BACK!” until someone did and that got cheers. And I mentioned it before in another post about the heat in said moment; Joey Styles said it when he said “John Cena has to be feeling like a Christian being fed to the lions.”
And those fans were actually cheering heavily for Edge when he speared Cena and actually chanted “Thank you Edge” before RVD took advantage of it to get the win.
That’s how wild those ECW fans were.
Also of note: They botched a spot. Fans chanted Cena Fucked Up.
What’s up w/ Big Show
His weight. By December to Dismember he would've been close to 600lbs.
Has credible's tee been digitally altered?
What are you talking about? Don't you remember the iconic
Is that Danny Doring over on the right?
One of my favorite matches of all time, such a unique feeling to this one.
the crowd for the introductions was just incredible
What’s crazy to think about is there were only 5 years between ECW shutting down and this. But it feels like it must have been much longer.
So today that’d be the equivalent of a reunion show based around 2016 PWG.
I wonder if I was the only one that got a sinking feeling that the ECW reboot was doomed the moment Edge interfered at the end of the match. Even for someone who was 13 then, and still “somewhat” believed in kayfabe, I watched that and literally thought to myself as it was happening that this match was just to push Edge and Cena’s storyline. The match was fine on its own, it didn’t need Edge.
As happy as I was for Van Dam, I also knew he was already a third wheel in whatever feud this was becoming... and this guy was suppose to be the face of WWEs third brand. Then came his incident a month later, and the whole thing fell apart
I feel like this match is a rare mix between a good match, a crowning achievement, a wasted opportunity, and a foreboding sign of things to come
He probably would've lost the WWE title soon after. Not *as* soon, but it wouldn't have been a long run. I bet he would've kept the ECW title a while though while they built the brand.
Is Justin Credible holding a Diet Coke there?
Caffeine free too
Great times indeed. That night is right behind MITB where Punk beats Cena for me, as I jumped up and cheered for both.
I think there was a RVD special on WWE Network recently where this match was discussed.
They mention that they had genuine safety concerns about how to get Cena out of there unharmed due to how intense the crowd was
There's a little bit of me, just out of morbid curiosity, that was curious as to how the crowd would've actually reacted if Cena would've won.
If I could peek into an alternate timeline (and then return to reality) just to see the riot, I totally would. Fire up the Delorean to 88.
Hey look, it's the 2010 TNA roster
2010 TNA wished they had Big Show
ECW legend Big Show.
nothing says EXTREME like the big show
he’s EXTREEEEMMMMEEEEE……..ly large.
Very weird to me seeing Kurt Angle and Big Show in the ring celerity all the ECW guys
Like some alternative timeline ecw
Who's between Heyman and RVD in the back.
Looks like Sign Guy Dudley
On this day 15 years ago, I didn't care how it happened I just knew the event better damn well end with Rob Van Damn champion over a beaten John Cena. It turns out I was not alone in this.
Ok enough reminiscing, now time to feel old as shit since this was FIF-TEEN years ago.
Huh must be why YouTube recommended his vice documentary today
And he went on to have a long and successful transcendent run as champ and that’s how I remember it and I won’t hear otherwise.
it's just too bad that he and sabu got caught with drugs and thus they had to take the wwe belt and put the ecw title on big show who at that point was probably at his heaviest and unhealthiest of his career.
Man, me and my friends partied hard that night!
The spinner belt looks so good compared to the logo belts
And the hate THAT belt got compared to the undisputed back in 06 - 13 really says alot
Pretty boring and, at times, sloppy match, but the spectacle of how much the crowd despises Cena & love RVD makes it a great watch
Lol they edited out Justin Credible’s shirt
I’m surprised they didn’t add a u to it to make it EC FUN W.
Hardcore Justin Credible on the diet coke
This match might be the biggest heat Cena got from the crowd. The ECW crowd was raw (no pun intended) and unbridled.
This and the MITB 11 crowd.
This crowd was a thing of beauty.
Top 10 for me, mostly bc of crowd reaction.
I wonder how long that reign (and possible further reigns) would have lasted if he didn't get caught with pot in his car with Sabu.
I started watching wrestling one year later. Holy shit.
Goddamn I remember this one like it was yesterday. Wasn’t an ECW guy but I was absolutely an RVD guy. The lead up was fantastic and the main event was electric. I truly believe that if Cena had won, they’d have rioted.
Damn, nostalgia is a double edged sword.
Just watched this show yesterday.
It's fine. No where near as amazing as the 2005 show. And boy are there so many, MANY red flags about how poor the ECW-revival would be.
Still the greatest crowd ever!
This match had all the right build up and the fans were really into watching Cena get his ass whooped.
Cena felt that crowd all night long from the beginning of his entrance to the ring introductions (my god!) to the match itself. Probably one of the best matches he was ever involved in and one of the most satisfying to me.
Is the F’N edited off Justin Credible’s shirt?!?
Get the "F'n" Out!
What about Raven!?
In my opinion this is one of the best matches In wrestling of all time. The actual wrestling isn’t incredible but man everything else.. the story, the environment, cena’s work, the booking. Incredible stuff.
Hard to believe this was 15 years ago. I'll never forget the crowd that night and how they were ready to riot that night if Cena won
I remember watching this on a pirated feed at ~240p. Fucking lost my shit and my mind was blown when Cena lost
>Look at this one... IT SPINS
one of the most raccous crowds i have even seen 2002-2006 was the best years of the wwe imo
You know as much people talk about how Cena got shit on by the ECW crowd, what about Randy Orton when he was facing Kurt Angle?
My favorite moment in wrestling when i was a kid. Right ahead of Rey winning the Rumble a few months before. Being an 11-12 yr old wrestling fan in 2006 was dope.
As bad as his fall from grace was, there was no way he could have left there without the belt and there not be riots.
I remember ordering this PPV on a shitty 37" TV with overpriced DirecTV service 3 months before turning 30. When watching it nowadays it's best to just download the torrent so you can see and hear it uncensored in all that awesome crowd's glorious volume.
Who's the girl standing next to Kid Kash?
And it was all downhill for RVD after this night
I guess you could say it all…went up in smoke
15 years later and one of them is a shill for China
Oof I'm getting old.
One of my favorite matches/moments in Pro Wrestling history.
And no riots happened whatsoever that day.
Big Show in the back like, “whattup fellow extreme wrestlers?”
Sat next to Justin credible at a show not that long ago few years back. He became a chef
While this was a great show, it also gave us the WWE version of ECW which I would compare to dumpster fire but dumpster fire at least destroys garbage.
Would have been million times more legitimate if it was a clean win.
Nothing says ECW like a diet coke
While the 2006 show doesn’t live up to the 2005 show as a whole, this match most definitely does however. I still remember being in the crowd at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh when ECW wrestlers came through the audience during the beginning with Cena.
Such a great moment, sadly bad things were to come...
Who is the Walmart version of Steve Austin?
Justin Credible, also known as Aldo Montoya. One of the more well respected journeyman wrestlers of his time.
