Shane is the Godfather of Jas. But its only said in a single dialogue once and i cant remember where sadly.
I guess he could be both! That would make sense!
'Uncle' isn't very informative though, it is pretty common to just call any male family friend of parents age an 'uncle' colloquially.
Yeah and in some cultures Auntie and Uncle are affectionate but respectful things to call some unrelated elders, like a warmer Sir or Ma’am.
So, according to the wiki; Jas lives with her aunt Aunt Marnie and Godfather Shane. Her parents died by unknown causes.
My guess is she’s so young that she calls him Uncle Shane. I used to do that for my parents’ close friends.
Yeee and like I call my godparents aunt and uncle cause I mean… GodDad Scott sounds weird af
She’s more than likely using “Uncle” as a term of affection rather than relating to how he relates to her. Vincent can begin referring to you as Auntie or Uncle if you max out friendship with him, so I’d imagine Jas acts similarly
Marnie is Shane's aunt, while Jas is Shane's goddaughter.
In that case, I would love a mod that makes Jas your step goddaughter and moves her in after marrying Shane.
I bet she also calls Lewis Uncle Lewis, it’s just what we tell children when their relationship to an adult is complicated, oh that is Uncle …
I used to call my parents best friends “Aunt___ or uncle____” when I was a kid, so to me it makes perfect sense as to why she calls him “uncle Shane” even if they aren’t related by blood.
In my opinion, Shane has the best character development among the bachelors.
You misspelled Haley there. /jk
But it's a real shame that he goes back to drinking in his married dialogue.
I thought that Shane and Jas would be cousins. But, because of his age (25-35) compared to hers (5-8) she probably just sees him more as an uncle anyway.
I always found it reallt strange that when you marry shame Jas doesn't come with you?
He is her God father. It says that Shane is marnies nephew, but Shane is her unrelated God father. So marnie is essentially no one to her but ends up taking care of her.
What I'm really saying is I married Shane to get jas and was severely disappointed when she didn't move in
A lot of people use the terms ‘aunt’ and uncle’ honorarily, hence my aunt Shelly (my god mother) who is my mother’s best friend :)
Curious if the Marnie, Shane, Jas story line is drawn from ConcernedApe life. If so, I hope "Jas" is doing well.
Iirc he said he based them on broad archetypes that he’d seen, who knows how broad though. Seb is the most obvious candidate for an expy of CA himself.
To be faaaair my niece calls my best friend Uncle and he's not related to her at all
Uncle is used a lot in situations where the person may not even be related. Family friends are often called uncle or aunt by kids.
To all of the people saying it's impossible for him to be her uncle without being her mom's sibling or married to Marnie:
It's completely possible for her to just call him "uncle shane" because that's what she is to him. My parents have friends who I call aunt and uncle, I call my friend's parents aunt and uncle, it's normal
aren’t good friends of the family often called uncle as well? i don’t see it as him to be THAT type of uncle
Is this marnies house? It has two sinks!
Technically he's her godfather, but theres no proper title for that like there is for uncle.
For people wondering, many people call their godparents by uncle or aunt. I do.
I found a comic that has to do with this [relationship](https://azuneekun.tumblr.com/post/629411971024961536/did-you-know-shanes-my-godfather-he-was-a)
I think Shane is Jas' cousin, but she calls him "uncle" due to the age gap. *Additionally* he's also her godfather (this is stated in game).
My whole headcanon on the situation is roughly as follow:
* Marnie had two siblings: Jas' mother and Shane's parent.
* Jas' mother was considerably younger than both Shane's parent and Marnie.
* When Jas was born, Shane was already adult, and on great terms with his aunt and uncle-in-law. So Jas' parents chose him as Jas' godfather.
* Shane's parents passed away, Jas' parents too, so both now live with their aunt Marnie.
I feel like it's a decent explanation given [Secret Note #11](https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Secret_Notes#Secret_Note_.2311) - the picture is clearly older than Jas, but the kid here resembles her quite a bit, so "it's a close relative" (her mother) is our best bet. And the game also shows an age gap between another pair of siblings, Sam and Vincent.
That's pretty much what I think. But also, my headcanon is that Shane specifically became an alcoholic because he couldn't cope with the loss.
actually Shane is Jas' godfather, I have a theory thought that Shane is actually her real father and her mother died a bus crash while pam was drunk driving, and this all happened when jas was a baby so she didn't remember, but then again there is a secret not with jas and Marnie in a photo, jas may have been to young to go to her mothers funeral so Shane moved in with the person who he was closest to, which would be his cousin Marnie and she took a photo with jas while Shane was gone at the funeral so jas wouldn't cry and interrupt the funeral. another thing that can prove this theory is that Shane and jas have almost the exact same hair color, a purple-ish black.
In the wiki, it says that Shane is Jas' Godfather, but Shane is also Marnie's nephew. Marnie is also Jas' aunt. So wouldn't that mean that Jas and Shane are cousins? Jas could just be calling Shane uncle because he is older than her, and she is also a child...... This is so confusing
Pretty sure jas is probably probably a relative of marines daughter. And Shane is another relatives son and maybe his parents died or some thin.
Where I grew up we named the parents of our friends and the friends of our parents uncle and aunt as well, even without familial relations whatsoever..
When I was a kid, I pretty much called all of my parents' friends uncle or aunt. So I'm not sure it actually clears it up.
yeah i thought marnie referred to shane as her nephew before? couldnt be misremembering tho
It seems people are saying that he is Godfather.
You can be both, Godfather and Uncle are not mutually exclusive events.
Yes but the one dialogue from Jas where she states that Shane is actually her godfather (which you can only get on Sunday if you have 10 hearts with her) also tells you that he was a **friend** of her parents. Shouldn't it says he was one of their sibling if that was the case?
...i thought they were siblings
I made a chart once of it to explain it to a friend that doesn't play: Shane is marnies nephew, and Jas is her niece. Jas's parents and Shane's parents are both half related to marnie, but not the same couple. Jas has dead parents, Shane's are unknown. They have some scattered quotes, and I've read too many dialogue options on the wiki to not know!!
Can somebody translate the title to English?
Don't be hating on Uncle Shane. He's turned his life around and has worked hard to get blue chickens. He's a good guy at the end of the day and future husband when I do my next farm
My future husband. Just got to get stuff to make the ring!
I just hope I'm a good uncle.
Nice moiré pattern you got there.
I can't remember the kids name oops.
what does uncle shane want to show you?
The barn with his blue chickens!
I've been watching too much SVU or something... I read these lines soo wrong
Yeah jas calls him uncle cause that's his title atm but if Marnie were to die he would become god father
Oh no not this discourse again.
Shane is Jaz God daughter but I am not sure if she knows
Marnie is both there aunt
like to think when you marry Shane he is so caring because he killed the rest of the family in a car wreck. Jaz was so young she doesn't remember. So they are acually siblings but Jaz just doesn't know.
You can tell that she remembers a wreck or something. If you look in her room you can see a jack in the box. And it is really scary to look at (dont remember what it says) but it reminds me if a wreck.
So i think either Shane or someone else was driving and killed the whole family and so he started drinking. Then if you marry him he realizes what he has. He then has more to live for. Then he doesnt have to drink since he has you.
Where on earth did you get that Shane killed Jas' parents?
