Oh shit various sizes
the lips look soo soft
I also reach various sizes
Behold! Everything in the known universe is various sizes!
It's not recovered though, it belongs down there.
Yes, it's not as though it was lost
This is a female. The male angler fish is significantly smaller. Once it finds a suitable female, it latches onto her and their tissues fuse together. Basically becoming a parasite on the female.
One of many [sources]( https://www.wired.com/2013/11/absurd-creature-of-the-week-anglerfish)
Not a parasite, more of a symbiotic relationship. In a parasitic relationship, one organism hurts the other in a way that the parasite benefits. This is not that because the male receives protection, nourishment, etc while the female receives sperm for reproduction
english is still hard to understand...I feel like “recovered” is more like “abducted” in this situation.
Confirmed, they're misusing it. Recovered means getting something back that was lost.
Recovered? So was it already dead when they snatched it out of the water or did they snatch it thus killing it? Cuz, that’s more like murder and stealing than recovering…
I think the fish was born on land, was fishnapped and brought to “the depths below”, but was then recovered from his abductors and returned home, to land.
Fucking weird looking motherfucker.
Doesn't help that they've been pulled out of the deep sea and the pressure difference makes them explode
These are trending and it's got me curious about their eating habits. Why the huge mouth and fragile-looking teeth? How does it digest what it eats?
It uses the light hanging over its mouth to lure in prey.
> In most species, a wide mouth extends all around the anterior circumference of the head, and bands of inwardly inclined teeth line both jaws. The teeth can be depressed so as to offer no impediment to an object gliding towards the stomach, but prevent its escape from the mouth. The anglerfish is able to distend both its jaw and its stomach, since its bones are thin and flexible, to enormous size, allowing it to swallow prey up to twice as large as its entire body.
How do you remove a deep-ocean fish from the deep ocean without decompressing it like the blobfish? Is it just a matter of bring it to the surface slowly?
Yes, slowly, but depths are enormous and time is scarce. Also you don't really know if you caught one in the net.
"recovered". I think they're meant to stay there.
They can reach various sizes? Wow, just incredible. I never would have guessed.
Banana for scale would be nice. Various sizes is a bit vague.
They grow upto about the size of a basketball. Males are tiny though
Thank god she recovered, those depths can be crushing
Recovered from the depths below, Huh? Why can’t we just keep them down there since that is where they thrive? Why must we bring them up to the surface?
And of course it's fucking as pitch as the water it lives in. ***NOPE***
It almost looks like a xenomorph
How do they taste?
Something tells me that one didn’t make it to 30
And now it's dead. Great.
Looks scarier underwater when it’s not decompress
Also the nightmare of anyone playing Outer Wilds.
I'd much prefer they stay in the dark bramble
Hard to tell how big it is... if only OP had a banana for comparison
The depths above.
Various sizes you say?
And this isnt even the ugliest fish down there.
Pretty sure this came from the depths of Isengard
Can we have a moratorium on angler fish posts already?
Nathan Watts studied biochemistry at Edinburgh University. At the time of the incident, he was out at a pub called The Albanach on the Royal Mile, celebrating his friend Michael MacAulay's acceptance into a Master’s program in Earth Sciences. He left shortly after midnight upon being violently ill, walking home via the Old Fishmarket Close. About halfway down the street, he took a fall on one of the steeper hills. Rattled, he rolled a cigarette to calm himself, when he heard a voice asking, "Can I have a cigarette?" He looked around and saw a figure in the alleyway on the opposite side of the street. The alleyway was narrow and unlit, with a short staircase leading up.
The figure seemed to sway slightly, and Nathan assumed that they were also a little intoxicated. He proffered the cigarette without coming closer, but the stranger did not move and asked the question again. Their face was blank and expressionless, and their skin was damp and slightly sunken, “like they had a bad fever.” Nathan was suddenly reminded of how an anglerfish dangles its lure into the darkness. When the figure once again asked "Can I have a cigarette?” Nathan noticed that the figure's mouth had been closed the entire time and that its feet were not quite touching the ground. Nathan scrambled for his phone, but as he shone his torch into the alleyway, all he saw was the figure folding from the waist into darkness. Nathan took a taxi home.
The next day, Nathan returned to the scene, finding nothing but an unsmoked Marlboro Red cigarette on the ground. A few days later, he discovered that John Fellowes, another student who had been at the party, had gone missing. John's missing person photo showed a pack of Marlboro Red cigarettes sticking out of his pocket.- The Magnus Archives
What is your angle with this comment? It seems rather fishy to me.
*pokes at it and stretches it around like one of those slime asmr videos*
Why does it look like it's melting onto the table? Is it covered in black slime or something?
They don't have a huge skeleton, plus pressure difference caused cells to break apart. It was brought to the surface too fast. "Blobfish" is an even more obvious example that got very famous.
It looks like it's from Doom
Jiggle it like a water balloon
This and a karambwan 👌
They are cute and terrorising at the same time.
This is a bad ass motorcycle helmet
Some people claim those fish are always deformed when we see them, due,to the pressure difference
Japanese people: let’s turn this into sashimi
Various sizes. Just like all the other things.
Humans, can reach up to 100 years and can grow to various sizes. Thanks.
The size of a blue whale is "various"
And reach various sizes lol. "The weather outside is weather"
71% of the earth's surface is covered by water according to NOAA. That only gives us 29% where we're safe.
If an animal the size of a blue whale can disappear for months at a time, what else is down there?
We're here to show you.
