I never thought about it but this is my head canon now.
I've seen some people claiming Tolkien was an ace based on some of his letters..
I don't know about the Silmarillon, but as far as i remember, Tolkien never mentioned Sex (and only barely romance) in Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, what might be another sign for this...
> Bilbo is that one aroace friend who has zero interest in relationships himself but goes absolutely wild with the planning whenever one of his friends gets married
I felt that in my soul
Alternatively he could be gay... he did spend quite a lot of time describing other men in his books😂
Haha did you see the third picture?
I always thought he had a platonic thing with Gandalf
Haha, ace bfs 💖
That makes absolute sense! I know the impulse in pop culture would be to make him gay if Tolkien couldn't see him with a wife; but can you see him with a husband, either? He's just happy on his own, raising his nephew and throwing his parties.
This belongs also to r/aromantic
A headcanon that, frankly, I can totally imagine honestly.
As a hermit and ace I really see where bilbo is coming from.
He went on an epic adventure and was like "never again".
Not to mention Dude had a ring of absolute power and was still like "fuck off, leave me to my home and my pipe"
And I can really resonate with that.
Yes yes yes yes!!
Bilbo = aroace
Frodo = homoromantic ace
Sam = bi
Elves = demi by default
^((headcanon obviously, but I always read them like that and was VERY surprised when I learned none of it was intentional))
