"Dumbledore” is an old English word for a bumblebee too! I ❤️ them.
I did not know that. Beautiful! The Irish for bumblebee is adorable - bumbóg
eating nectar, spreading pollen
Glad to see I wasn't the only one coming here to say that. XD
I love how it seems to get so happy after being so tired. Like when you get a drink of cold water after an intense workout.
Much more wholesome than my initial thought of “like a partied-out dude sniffing a bump off a hooker’s ass”
Bees eat Nectar a sweet liquid carried in the flower's bulb.
They carry pollen as a consequence of eating the nectar and then bring that pollen to other plants resulting in the plant being able to reproduce.
Bees & bumbles do actively collect pollen to take back to the hive. The protein in pollen is essential for developing their larvae. But I don't think foragers consume it.
I remember reading that you can give an exhausted bee a drop of sugar water to get their energy back up, so I once gave one a drop of Coca-Cola. It worked. Little dude drank it right up.
Is exhaust to be a bee
Thank u human
Bring sweet time 2 me!! 🌸
I’m going to flip if u/Schnoodledoodledo does something with this.
What bee is is that has that dark orange arse? One of those stung me the other day, I freaked out, caught it under a plastic tub, then treated the sting. I assumed it would die straight away, so I just put some sugar syrup into the tub, and left it. It was still buzzing the next day, I felt terrible, and let it go.
If it's UK or Europe, probably the red-tailed bumble bee. Bumbles have got smooth stingers like wasps, so they don't rip their guts out. Could be wrong, but I think it's only honey bees that have the serrated stinger that ends up killing them.
Absolutely. Bees are amazing so long as you aren’t an ass to them.
This is so nice. We should make a note to help if we see a tired bee on the ground. I heard a little bit of sugar water can help too.
I love bumblebees.
Me too. Carpenter bees, on the other hand, are assh**s.
Look at his fluffy little butt!
It’s a her, male bees don’t typically leave the hive, when they do, they leave the hive in order to mate and then die. Unless you are watching a maiden flight (you will know if you are, there will be a cloud of bees) or you are looking inside of a hive, I’m 99% sure that the bee you are looking at is female.
Actually, if you ARE looking inside of a hive, I’m still 99% sure the bee you are looking at is female. Since drones (male bees) don’t really do much, they aren’t born often, so most hives have about a 1% male population.
Still amazes me that even the smallest insects have such intelligence even to communicate between each other in the community they live in.
Its not intelligence. Its instinct. Their brains are not much more than a thick nerve that responds automatically to stimuli.
Drinking nectar. Pollen is gathered, taken home and used to make Bee Bread.
Imagine when your exhausted and taking a rest alone the suddenly a freaking giant would give you some Doritos and mountain dew. Like damn that's just nice
According to all known laws of aviation, bees should not be able to fly. It's wings are too small to get its fat, little body off the ground. The bee of course, flies anyway, because bees don't care what humans think is impossible.
Bees are precious and adorable and you can’t convince me otherwise.
i love bumblebees
I can’t beelieve how sweet this is
I did this once to a honey bee that I almost crushed on my stairs.
He was weak and lifeless.
Now I usually don’t like to interfere with nature, but I couldn’t let this poor guy die on my carpet.
After about 5 minutes of getting daisies from the garden, I presented them all to him and he started perking up and regaining energy.
10 minutes later, he flew out of my kitchen, healthy, and grateful. Success.
That is until he flew into a fucking spider’s web on the outside my kitchen window and got ate the fuck up.
Bumblebees and Pitbulls, two adorable derps of nature that are misunderstood by so many.
I've never heard of anyone disliking bumblebees.
Save the bees
this is so unbelievably cute 😭
That's the most awesome thing I've seen in like forever.👏🏻👏🏻
I love bumblebees there very fluffy and cute
Bumble bees! the pandas of the insect kingdom.
Just don't sting the hand that feeds ya
A little nectar might get it home
Why are people taking about pollen and now about how this is the cutest thing ever in the world?
Honey woulda been better if you had it, but that’s a good choice given you probably didn’t have access to honey
Edit: I was wrong. Sugar water is superior for the bee.
Edit 2: I was wrong again!!! Nectar is best for the bee.
Nah honey isn’t good for bees to eat on its own. A small amount of sugar in some water will send them off well and happy!
I read this is a thread about feeding bees a few days ago that was on the front page. They were very informative. I wonder if I can find it.
Edit: I couldn’t find the specific post, but there are a ton of other posts and online resources for bees and helping them get some energy when tired!
Use a 1:1 white sugar and water ratio and mix well, whether a drop on the ground next to them or in a small cap. The liquid diet combined with sweet calories are the perfect fill-up for the little bees! Though surely this bee is a happy buzzer nonetheless!
I like bumblebees I sometimes get them in my flat there very docile
Anyone else think the fingers look like a pair of jugs?
This is very possibly one of the cutest things I have seen.
There IS good in this world
i've done this to a few regular bees, tired or not, they'll land on me, i'll get them to walk on my fingers/hand, then give them some coconut water or gatorade (i work outside) and they're like.. sweet.. thx, then they take off.
I’ve been saving them from my pool constantly the past month (and counting). Cute little bastards, dumb as shit when it comes to water though.
Should definitely post this in r/humansbeingbros
Like my kids when I try to eat Wotsits with my head in a cupboard.
Friggin love bumble bees... played with them alot as a child. Lol flying floof balls sweet too.
Who woulda thunk there’d be so many beekeepers on Reddit 🙄
Right? Didn't know there were this many experts
I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble but, they don’t eat pollen, they drink nectar. Super cute though! I love bumblebees:)
What's your source?
According to this they do.
Bees don't eat pollen.
They make bee bread from pollen. It's their staple food.
“Mmmm nom nom nom” Zzzzzzzzz
Thats sweet of him
He's catchin a buzz...
You are a good man, thank you
I love how it crawls onto their finger to get a better drink. So cute!
More people like this person please world.
We need more people like this
What a cutie 😭😭
To you sir I doff my cap,for if the bee were to ever die out so too would mankind.
Everybody liked that
Good man for helping, but in future could I suggest a spoon of sugar water, might be easier on the bee!
Bees ear nectar not pollen, but it the thought that counts.
What's your source?
"We gotta take care of the bees man." (In the voice of the Dude [Big Lebowski dude, not the other Dude who is also in the Big Lebowski as the narrator.])
When you make an obvious mistake in your title to get more interaction. Lol
*flies in ur nose to show its love*
Last summer I saved many from exhaustion by doing exactly this. Then one day while tending to my garden, one of them stung me. Ungrateful fucks.
The bee movie all over again XD
I tried to save a cold bee and it died anyway. :(
Idk why I was waiting for it to sting him
Wow, he's a superhero. Sod the Avengers he's the man.
If only we can genetically engineer a species of bumblebee that don't sting and have sex more
"Thanks man. I've had a hard day."
I go with jelly, a drop of water, and make a shady leaf house
The balls on this guy. I would've spazzed the second his legs touched me.
Geez leave some pollen for the fishes
Wonder if some flowers are better then others like is there a quality flower
A lot of the time, bees that look exhausted need water. Leave some out for them and you'll make their lives easier. Be careful because they can drown easily; an easy thing to do is take a large shallow dish or birdbath, make a mound of marbles in it, and fill with water so that some marbles are above it and some are submerged. They'll be able to land on the dry part and reach the water, even as the water evaporates.
Gulp, gulp, gulp “yo, thank you! I was so thirsty”
Ive done that before after I saved a bumblebee out of my pool.. Took a nap in my hand and had some nice pollen afterwards from a buffet of 4 flowers. It was fascinating and immensly cute.
sike i lied that pollen is mine respectfully
It stung him right after
Always be a bro and help a bee out if you find one all tuckered out. Feed them some honey or sugar water.
Things that make you go AWW! Like puppies, bunnies, babies, and so on...
A place for really cute pictures and videos!
