[Heyman] (on Mather’s resignation) There was no other alternative. It never made sense that after two sexual harassment complaints/payouts they elevated Mather to President. Hopefully they can begin to turn that organization around now. Lot of work to do.

What's sad is that he's not even good at his job to justify keeping him on w/ such moral issues (not that it justifies it at all obviously) I'm sorry under your tenure how many times did the Mariners make the postseason again? How the fuck did this guy keep his job until this moment? I wish I had that job security while being completely bad at my job And it's hilarious when these guys talk about whether someone deserves to get paid 75k lmao
And minutes before he resigned we settled one of the sexual harassment and discrimination cases against him and the front office.
The FO needs to start practicing what they preach with their player development principles (bringing in players who are also good people) and apply it to themselves.
Here’s to hoping the M’s actually find someone who can change this culture from top to bottom. Fans are fed up from the culmination of the last 20 years, and shit like this really just makes us lose more hope.
Sexually harass female employees. Promote to President. Insult players. Get fired. While I fully understand he needed to be fired, it’s sad that in 2010 he wasn’t and even after that, he was promoted to president.
He got fired for the service time comments that the MLBPA are capitalizing on. No one should believe he got canned because of the racism until the Mariners prove it.
How many times are we going to have to hear "change the culture" about an org before we realize more orgs are probably like this than not?
Honestly how many people who are qualified for these jobs do you think exist that aren’t racist, aren’t assholes, aren’t sexist and are great people? How many coaches have you interacted with in sports? The percentage of great ones is low and the percentage of assholes is high.
The real problem is the lower systems that generate higher end coaching and executive talent generally reward the assholes.
The real problem is society. This is the same struggle we are facing everywhere right now.
No amount of being good at your job should overdue being a serial sexual harasser tbh, I’m glad this cancer of a person is out.
The first thing is forcing him to sell his stake in the Mariners
Pretty tough to force someone to sell what if essentially private property.
It makes perfect sense if you consider that the general response to mistreatment of women behind closed doors is "yeah I don't really care"
The Mariners are a mess...
We have been since the existence of the franchise
To me, his comments weren't honestly the worst thing I've ever heard an executive say, but it was still incredibly tone deaf and, combined with all the other shit he's done, they couldn't keep him around. The Mariners deserve better.
I feel like none of the individual comments were the worst thing an executive's said, but I've never seen someone piss so many people off in and out of the organization in one sitting.
The organization can’t improve until the people who put him in power are gone. Long road to recovery.
It was dumb. A lot of back-handed compliments and opinions that didnt need airing publicly. I don't know that it was so incredibly immoral, travesty, etc. that people are making it out to be but whatever I guess people are just bored and some want to make everything into a value/morality thing. Heyman in particular has a job where he relies on players and agents to feed him info so I guess it makes sense he's up in arms. I'm definitely not arguing that they shouldn't have gotten rid of him though bc he clearly revealed himself to be not sufficiently competent for the role he was in.
