I've seen all your posts and you do have some small anatomy issues, but each post has been better than the last.
You are 100% going to draw comics. The only thing that will stop you is you; either deciding not too or stopping drawing, or losing motivation or self-confidence. I hope you have a support network and if you don't, then be your own support. Do keep drawing.
Tho judging by your work, I don't think any of that will be a problem. They're supremely confident drawings.
Yep! I’m always on the daily grind trying to figure that stuff out.
I got a nice little support group of online friends! Very grateful for them. My family’s pretty supportive as well, even tho they don’t exactly understand the things I draw lol.
Nice drawing kid. We shall watch your career with great interest.
The future is now old man
Sign over line work to make ripping ur stuff off a little more tedious
This is good advice. All my pieces have hidden signatures in them.
You got that "thing" sir. You're going to go far.
Hopefully! Thanks for the support
I always loved my Anakin action figure who has the nelvaan tats. Do you know what that came from?
It came from the original 2003 Clone Wars. It was a short 2D animated film that came out right beforr Episode 3 did.
I really liked the idea of the tattoos, I really wished they kept it. You should definitely check it out. It's super cool. Those tattoos are from slugs these tribal aliens anointed him with. It's worth a watch.
The instant I saw the picture I knew this was you. You’ve got a distinctive look to your work. Keep it up!
Awesome! That’s what I’m goin for lol. I’m not sure what makes it my art distinctive since I’m so used to it. Would you mind telling me what really stands about it to you? Thanks!
Totally free to pass on this as it’s your decision and career (also sorry if someone already suggested this), but if you’re getting into comics, I highly recommend Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics. It’s the breakdown of comics as medium, accepted by scholars and some of the biggest names in the medium. He also has a series of sequels such as Making Comics, but start with Understanding first.
One of its best advice is that comics are about readability and flow, being able to guide the eye from panel to panel and page to page over traditionally aesthetic value or detail. It’s easy to just consider comics as a drawing, but it’s its own medium with its own language that makes it works, and sometimes things like tons of detail that work for a standalone drawing can be harmful to comic, or just emphasizing that idea can be more harmful to the creator as its focusing on an unnecessary aspect. Not to say that you can’t make it aesthetic please, but it’s something that people don’t consider until they know it.
I have no idea if this is something you already know, so no disrespect. It’s just something that everyone getting into the medium should read
Also it’s a really good drawing! Sometimes I get too bogged down with suggestions I forget to compliments. I kinda take it for granted that it’s good, and that’s my fault as an editor sometimes when I’m not thinking. I know some people were critiquing little things, and no disrespect towards them, their knowledge, or their advice, but sometimes those matter much less than style, expression, readability, and flow, so I’d love to see/hear about what your style is
Thank you for taking the time to write this out! I actually started reading Scott Mclouds book a little while ago, so that I can get the art of storytelling down.
If you want to see some more of my art (including sequentials). I have a bunch of stuff on my reddit and instagram. People are always obsessed with what kind of "style" they draw in. The advice I've been given is to not worry about it. Steal techniques from all your favorite artists, and after a while your art will turn into an amalgamation of those artists. So for me, that's probably David Finch, Brett Booth, Ryan Stegman, Michael Turner, Jim Lee, Todd Mcfarlane, Greg Capullo, Stephen Platt, Rob Willis, and Joe Mad. Many people think I'm influenced by Liefeld as well, which is interesting since I dont really study him that much. But I can't argue that my style does look similair, particularly with this one, where I didn't spot that many blacks. In my opinion energy is the most important thing in a drawing. If my drawing doesn't look cool, then I think I have failed as an artist. If people want lifelike figures that obey the all rules of anaromy, they should go watch a movie. That being said, anatomy and everything is still extremely important to me, which is why I'm studying daily. As i grow in my artistic journey, I pick up on more and more things.
This is amazing! Cool verios of Anakin to draw too. Not enough people know what this is from.
Yeah, it’s a rad design. Thanks man!
Now this is podracing. Very nice work 👊🏿
Thanks my man
Dude this looks sick
Thanks bro 👊
Pretty darn good for your age, too. Keep it up mate, you'll go places.
I’ll definitely keep drawing! Thanks man
Looks awesome keep it up never quit
Thanks man, I’ll keep grinding!
A lot of people who post here don't have it. You have it. Don't give up on this dream. The talent is obvious. Be prepared for the business side, I guess.
Thanks man I really appreciate it. Sometimes I don’t feel like I got it, so comments like these are really inspiring. I just try to do my best with the social marketing aspect of it. That’s the business side lol
Dang that's really good for 16. Very well done. Keep at it. You're for sure on the path.
Thanks bro! I’ll keep practicing
I'm getting some 90s Rob Liefeld-shellshock from this. Promise me you'll focus on learning feet.
Overall, though, very nice. I am interested to know your inspirations as an artist, those RL-vibes are too strong to deny. ;D
I have no idea what a Nelvaan Tattoo is, but I know I have seen much worse art in professional work. You have a talent and I sincerely hope you keep it up!
This already better than some published Star Wars properties so keep going your already great at 16.
Thanks man, I really appreciate it, I’ll keep drawing!
Aspiring? Dude you’re there.
Appreciate it man. Now I just gotta find a job lol!
Dude for 16 this is awesome. Hell its awesome for any comic artist. There are so many shit comic artists out there that work for the Marvel and DC. This is what it should be. Keep up the good work.
Thanks man! I’ll keep grinding for sure
I love this. Great job, kid
This is sick! Keep up the good work!
Thanks man! I’ll stay on the daily grind
I save it man this is good
Thanks bro, I appreciate it!
That’s awesome!!!! Keep it up!!!
Thanks! I’ll keep practicing
I'm 25 and wish I could draw this good consistently. Keep going, because you've got great things ahead of you.
Thanks man! I’ll definitely keep grinding
Not bad yo
Best advice I’ve ever heard from a comics submission editor is to work on sequential art in addition to this pin-up type work. But you’ve definitely got the talent, keep it up!
Yep, I’m focusing on sequentials right now! This was something I did off to the side
Heavy McFarlane and Jim Lee vibes. Looks straight from an early Image comic. Like others have said, let your shots breath, not everything needs to be covered in drawing (this piece is moving in that direction). Keep tones in mind, try inking in blacks and balance your shot with darks and white, avoid making everything the same grey value. Read Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud to begin learning visual storytelling, comics aren't just splash pages. You'll definitely break into the industry if you keep it up, lots of talent for your age.
This is great artwork, would look right at home in a comic book.
The only thing that hurts is that you weren't even born when Clone Wars started airing (and depending when your birthday maybe not even when this episode aired) and that makes me feel ancient 😅
I’m just happy that I’m basically the same age as revenge of the sith. A few months older, but similar enough
I can’t wait to start seeing your stuff in print!
Good job man. Has a very Angel Medina feel to it.
I get that a lot! Thanks
This is such a good design for Anakin! Awesome job! One thing to maybe improve on is just practicing drawing feet a little more. At the moment it looks fairly similar to Liefeld’s style and looking at your previous art, I see some of the same urges to hide them. But again that’s just nitpicking. Everything else in this looks fantastic!
Feet are tough lol
Damn this is cool!
This is freaking awesome.
bruh, one artist to another... you will already surpass jim lee if you keep this up man.
Thanks man! I don’t think that’s possible, but I’ll do my best!
You've got a ton of talent!
Looking at your earlier stuff and seeing the progress you've made in three years is impressive. I have no doubt in my mind that you'll make it in the industry if you just keep at it. Keep in mind too that if you practice and know how to write a story and dialogue you'll be unstoppable in the field.
Thanks! I’ll definitely keep practicing. No where to go but up!
Wow! Just wow. Keep it up and follow your dreams. You can do anything as long as you never give up!
Thanks man! I’ll definitely keep practicing and stay in on the daily grind
Some great Barry Windsor Smith vibes (think Marvel's early 'Conan the Barbarian' run).
Excellent work, friend! Keep it up.
Thanks! I’m no where near as good as Windsor, but I’ll take it lol
For the love of Mike, don’t stop drawing. Keep getting better because you can make it in the industry in my opinion.
Thanks man! I’ll definitely keep practicing till I make it
This is amazing. Great details, keep going !
Thank you! I will
Great realistic art, sense of motion with “skirt”, a sense of depth with smoke on ankle. Power with backsplash, realistic with detail. Great job!
Thanks! That’s all I was going for. Glad to see you liked it
bruise leech crawler tracks
Nice work ! A little work to improve on the anatomy but I'm sure you will clean that up in no time, you're already drawing better than what a lot of indie books are putting out lol
Yep! I really gotta work on that. Thanks!
Fuck you for being this good at 16. Goddamn this is amazing. What are Nelvaan tattoos and when did he get them?
Good shit keep at it
Awesome. You have a great career ahead of you🙌🏻🤜🏻🤛🏻👍🏻
You have a lot of talent. I can’t wait to see how you evolve.
Bravo Well Done Mate 😊
You’re good! Keep it up and start making contacts
I will honestly be shocked if you don't make it.
This is great! Keep it up please :)
Keep it up!
I wish I had your skills! Nicely done!
Hot damn, that looks great! Keep it up and you'll drop that "aspiring" in no time.
This is really really good
Damn bro you should draw a comic book
The 2003 animated Clone Wars shorts are unfortunately underrated, I'm glad you're giving them some love! Also, the art looks fantastic!
light years ahead of my stick figures, congrats young padawan youl go far 🤙
Keep it up and go to art school!
Seems like you are now on a Rob Leifield level. So if you are only 16, you can go only up from that!
Ho.lee.shit. In a few years you’ll be working with a studio.
Hopefully! That’s the dream
Keep on it. Looks great.
That’s great and your work is nice. Keep it up and carry on this May the Fourth!
This dude was born with a pencil
This is absolutely gorgeous contact me if you’d like some ideas for drawing I’d also love some friendly competition.
That's really cool
This is big PP
I’ll take that as a compliment lol
This is dope, keep at it kid. I’ll be seeing your work in comic books soon.
This is fantastic buddy. Keep it up!
Thanks, I’ll do my best!
