This happened to me with England and Scotland. I think I had played as an Irish OPM and cut a path between the two nations from coast to coast. So, when the two wanted to go to war, I felt it was in my best interest to not let them fight. If one got a leg up over the other and gained more land I would be doomed as Irish OPMs are not easy to play as. But since I had created a literal buffer zone between the two, when they asked for military access I turned both of them down. So they couldn’t really do anything. In fact, they both just sat there, in a stalemate for god knows how long before Britain finally sent some troops via boat over to Scotland.
If you win and make your religion official then you get perma bonus for winning war.
+1 missionary strength
+25% imperial authority
+1 tolerance for true faith
+0., Wacky, 25 legitimacy
Must say that these bonuses are most profitable for protestants since missionary strength is really handy, some of your provinces are still catholic, everyone else in europe is catholic, so converting those faster is great and you get less rebels bc of more tolerance. But imperial must be trash one since half of hre is catholic or protestant and you will get something around +0.02, however for catholic Austria its great since you stack your traditions modifier and this.
I am not entirely sure if I am 100% correct, so correct any mistakes I made here.
When there are two strong religions in the HRE (Holy Roman Empire) which in my case are Protestantism and Catholicism the emperor will eventually get an event which triggers the Religious Leagues.
Every nation (with capital in Europe) can join one of the two leagues. You cannot join the league during the war and you can switch between leagues but there's a cool down for that. If you are at war and the league war starts you will not join 'cause you have to be at peace.
The league leader gets a special casus beli which when used on member of other league calls all members of both leagues (as mentioned previously members have to be at peace).
The league leader is the strongest nation in a league it is in (not the nation which joins first).
The league war gives you special bonuses like additional missionary strength, additional missionary and more % IA (Imperial Authority) growth.
To avoid league wars you have to not trigger it and survive through the Age of Reformation or pass an imperial reform to sign a treaty of religious peace.
Possible outcomes of the league war will not only give the bonuses mentioned above for the winning side but also will allow only electors and emperors (in the HRE) who follow the religion which won the war.
Also a way to get the religious peace is to sign a white peace (without choosing "Religious Supremacy" option) which will not give any bonuses to both sides.
I know how long this is but it's the simplest way O can explain this.
I almost always get Ottomans joining the Protestants. Ottomans irl had tangential involvement in the Thirty Years War but in EU4 they often carry the whole team.
What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?
Or, set\_culture = swiss?
Friendly reminder, that you should never see that red banner.
Assuming that one does, what's the best thing to do with that excess power? increase the development of provinces? Pick ideas in the same category?
Develop your provinces please.
Yeah that would be...
Common Sense
*Puts on sunglasses*
Poland: man i know you are neutral but you must sign this peace
R5: In my campaign as Hungary I decided that I didn't want to join the league war but I didn't expect to get so many requests for military access.
Say yes and hide your troops so they don’t get attrition from foreign armies stepping on you.
The peace offer from Poland hiding in there
Never!!!

Is there any actual benefit to joining the leauge war? I always look forward to and of course stay neutral. It's like a fire sale on provinces I want.

\*sad sabaton music in the distance\*
How are you suppose to accept all of those though?
You don't. Accepting one means accepting all. If any one belligerent on either side of a war gets military access, then EVERYONE gets military access.
POV: the entire europe is killing themselves and you are just sitting there
The Switzerland during the world wars experience.
There should be an ~~onus~~ penalty to not taking part of the League Wars as an European country.
You don’t get the age bonus, and the side you don’t like might win?
How do league wars work?
I am not entirely sure if I am 100% correct, so correct any mistakes I made here.

Just watch the world burn
"Neutral" shows Poland asking for peace
can poland into peace?
Ah, the torture of staying neutral during a war of "religion" which often has fuckin Russia on Catholics.

Is it only me thinking that the alliance proposal sign looks like a locust instead of a dove?
You're not alone.
