That’s the camera they use to record every UFO sighting
it was decades ago, the camera was the size of a bazooka
Those blows to the back of the head couldn't have felt good though.
Not bad enough to stop him tough.
Smallest black belt?

Here's some challenge videos that Rener Gracie breaks down on his insta. In the video he talks about how they would get challenged all the time and the Gracie family would allow their students to fight them to prove that BJJ wasn't just in the Gracie a blood. It was the techniques they were teaching that were extremely effective
When the Gracies first showed up to California, they had open challenges to prove bjj was superior. This was at a time where bjj wasn't well known I the states, and mma wasn't what it is now. You could say that these early challenges that matched different disciplines is what evolved into modern mma. There are quite a few tapes like this. Eventually this challenge led Rorion to create the UFC to serve as a public display for BJJ. I think the underground pot was up in the 10s of thousands. I think there's a video of Ryron beating some guy and he was only 15 or 16 at the time.
I always find it funny how stuff like no ego and check your ego at the door got so popular in BJJ.
The origin of the art is all about ego, brawls, and gym challenges
I don't know if it's true but i heard once that Steven Seagal once did the exact same thing and wouldn't leave this dojo until someone faught him. Basically it was the exact same outcome, he got his pony tail handed to him.
Steven Seagal once claimed being immune to chokeholds.
Gene LeBelle gave him the opportunity to to prove it.
Not only did he (Seagal) pass out immediately. He also shit his pants. Literally.
They knew once he got the mount it was over.
I knew once I read the title it was over.
I love the old school Gracie challenge vids. Big cash prize if you won, right? And if you lost you had to sign up?
So I’ve trained under Pedro Sauer who was the first non-Gracie black belt in the states and he’s told stories of how Helio would call him up and be like “I need you to go down to the gym and fight a challenge match, make sure not to lose because I don’t have the prize money to give out if you do”
Good to see Bjj takedowns haven’t improved at all since then.
It depend on the gym really, some don't even train takedowns at all while some are very proficient at them.
However if we speak strictly about what the Gracie's teach nowadays they have much better takedowns than at the time, altough they are still not comparable to an high level wrestler.
The Gracies were so confident in Brazilian Jui Jitsu as the perfect real world martial art that they had basically an open challenge in the early days.
Bring any fighter, beat them and win 100k(I think the money was put up by others and/or a myth but still). All the Asian masters of assorted martial arts wanted nothing to do with it.
Who are these retards that are just walk by a gym / dojo / boxing club and challenge randomers to a fight and then get wrecked? I've seen a couple videos like this and never seen a single one where the retarded "challenger" got anything but completely rekt
Probably because the “challeneger” isn’t trained in anything and the guys with training are just like “Ah, a living training dummy. Phil, go ahead, this is your training for today.”
Out of curiosity, why all the Gracie hate? I know very little about them except their general story...
They kinda cocky/arrogant, but with reason, because they could back it up?
Thought it meant the smallest student was in his early 80s
You could tell at the beginning he was in it to prove a point. Then he kicked him on the way out. Short king ftw
You should know it’s going to be rough when you see they have a viewing window for studying the fights
Impressed that they happened to have a camera.
The smallest could have been one of the most skilled.
This is actually really interesting.
Just out of curiosity, can I ask why do you find it that interesting?
come back when you can fight loser
If a student sees their master get challanged, they will be 100X more willing to whoop ass than the teacher. Trust me.
Wow, great stoppage. And this is back in the day when brain damage was relatively ignored
Good ole days of UFC infancy.
It was really entertaining to see the different discipline and size match ups
I've had many stupid ideas in my life but it never occurred to me to challenge a Gracie.
It’s the Gracie way. One of the reasons Royce was used in the ufc was due to how small he was. They knew it would be more impressive if he went compared to his brother, who was a better fighter, but also much bigger. At least that’s the story I’ve read.
More like this pls
I genuinely wonder what goes through the mind of someone who randomly challenges a Dojo’s or GYM while armed with zero experience/training . . .
It's Charlie Zelenoff dad
That's the plot of Jiu-Jitsu Kid right there
We have a term for challenging dojos here in Japan, I just forgot what it is and I'm too lazy to search
Japanese martial arts it’s called dojoyaburi
and in Chinese martial arts is called beimo, I think.
Fuck the Gracies and their scamming bitch asses. They love to rip-off lower-class families by accepting their money but never give lessons. Reason why they had several gyms shut down.
Glad Sakubura whooped all their asses.
Could you elaborate please?
I have never heard of anything like that.
What does being small have to do with it though? I guess it’s indicative of experience vs inexperience. Just stop being a tough guy, god damn that cliche is so played out, I don’t understand why people constantly do cliches.
Smallest because going against someone bigger than you is usually a disadvantage. It served to humiliate the dude even more
It looks more like the 90s
Doesnt matter how much you schmove if you cant land a proper strike
That’s NOT it.. the man stormed in and wanted to learn! Beat his fuckin ass
Looks like it got personal at the end there, probably because the other guy elbowed his head a couple of times. Get wrecked.
Pretty sure there was no storming in involved, these were open invitational demos of BJJ by Gracie
Dude, let him pummel the man just a little, guy got elbowed in the base of the skull like five times.
I've heard of this sort of thing happening OFTEN. Some hotshot fuckwad wanders into a martial arts training facility challenging their best guy and proceeds to get the shit beat out of him. Apparently it happened a couple times in my home town.
Well that’s definitely humiliating
I love how the 80s were like “fuck it, let’s bare-knuckle fight for the hell of it”. I feel like nowadays they would have to glove up to avoid being sued or something
Those were the Karate Kid days, that's why
Hol up homie was throwing that hammer fist to the back of this man's head, let him get his moneys worth when he finally gets on top. Why they end it so soon
Challenged them to a fight? What is this a Pokémon gym?
I believe there is some historical president for this but Im not exactly an expert
The dojo I went to was established in the late 80's early 90's and the head said they did challenge fights till the mid 90's and then everyone got sue happy so any challenger (also prospective students) signed a bunch of leagal documents stating you were willing to get the shit kicked out of you.
The guy didn't storm in. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gyms head open challenges for anyone to battle one of their black belts and if they defeated the black belt, they won $1,000.
