I would imagine a blanking plug for the bodywork. In another race there may be an aerodynamic device in place of this that isnt required at Silverstone.
This definitely sounds plausible.
Betting it's an access cover for the dummy TV cameras. Check this out
That's a good bet.
I think that’s VTEC
F1 cars are pretty dirt nasty low
Blinker fluid sensor.
That's obviously a parking sensor.
*Helmut Marko wants to know your location.*
I feel like Block is just Allow with extra steps.
It's a casino chip they gambled Perez's race points away with.
It's a development token
Hello Michael, we need that piece back.
email (after the race!) Michael Masi to ask
I’d suggest posting this on r/F1Technical
Email redbull customer services on their F1 site about this.
They may want it back if it's anything sensor related from a current gen car, but I imagine they'll send you some free merch or something in return!
> but I imagine they'll send you some free merch or something in return!
TBH having a piece of Max's potential *championship winning car* is way cooler than having a lanyard and Red Bull mug.
I'd put this on my shelf and keep my mouth shut.
USB charger to plug into his Cigarette plug
Looks like the new top button on your baller peacoat this fall.
It's probably a sensor. And probably too damaged to be of any use, but hey, contact Red Bull. Who knows if they want it back.
Send it to Mercedes for maximum controversy
Im surprised that i found this comment near the bottem
Looks like a plug for an access port in the bodywork somewhere, maybe for topping off fluids or something. Just a wild guess though.
I was thinking along the same line, covering up some external hole or bolt or screw to improve aerodynamics.
The inner appears to be made of carbon; the outer rim is made of titanium.
Yeah the outer is very much like a thin titanium washer. Definitely carbon with some broken off carbon around the edges, was just curious as to what part it could have came from?
It's the cover cap for NOS button.
I'm not saying you shouldn't try to return it to Red Bull but ... what a cool piece of F1 history to have if you do keep it. I'd mount that in a shadow box and put it on my wall
if you can't find a shadow box, get an arrows box, it's basically the same design
Looks like the cap for the blinker fluid fill port.
It's a plumbus!
That’s the headlight fluid cap
That must be the 51g everyone keeps talking about
It's a magical portal. You show the picture on Reddit and suddenly you've summoned all the self-diagnozed comedians.
Put it up yer arse.
Aye cheers mate
I think thats the lost diamond the was lost in the crash
Porobably an Apple Airtag so they won't loose the car
It’s part of his cod piece. It protects the glans.
This device is turning all the frogs gay
Some absolutely fantastic off the wall answers in this thread. Wish the mods would sticky it!
Looks like a nespresso capsule to me
My idea is that it is unrelated. Nobody's favourite answer.
I was on a formula student team in college and this looks like a hard point from a carbon fiber monocoque chassis.
A carbon fiber chassis strength/weight ratio is very high but it’s also brittle, this makes it great for race care body but not so great for drilling stuff into. Hence the introductions of “hard points” In order to get past this, metal or even high performance polymers are added to the carbon fiber (which sometimes is sandwiched with a honey comb grid in the middle and layers of carbon fiber for bread). CF is directionally strong, hard to tell from the picture - but you might be able to get some more hints on it based on its failure method and the weave pattern of the CF.
If you were to drill and bolt shit directly into the carbon fiber it would just shear through because the carbon fiber is weak at vibrational points with lots of flex with high stress concentrations (holes).
Please correct if wrong, been out of formula for a while now
Halo blanking plug most likely, you can see them on most onboards. Used to plug the holes for mounting the halo
If max has problems with the car in the next race it's on you my man
The TVA is not amused by this discovery..
Dude, that's his Win Button! You gotta give it back so Max can have a chance at winning!
(Been up all night, so I'm now imagining a weird 20-way Prisoners Dilemma/Game Theory thing where the last driver to press the Win Button goes on to win the race and I've half-convinced myself that that's a good simplified description of how F1 works)
Hello, this is Toto. I just sent you an email!
It’s a cover/blank for the hole in the camera pod when it isn’t in use. F1 cars have camera pods in quite a few places around the car, and it is their choice which locations to run the actual camera. When a camera is not in use in a particular pod, a blank is inserted to fill the hole that would otherwise be occupied by a camera lens.
It’s the locator that Helmut Marko implants in all his test subjects… I mean drivers.
Lewis apex. I heared he missed it in Copse corner..
Is the middle part a magnifying glass that magnifies the pattern of your bag, or is it just a composite material that happens to look somewhat like your bag under a magnifying glass?
The middle looks like carbon fiber
Looks like Carbon Fiber to me
Paperweight to hold down the map in his car?
AirTag so Jos knows where he is driving.
Sell it to merc
It’s a pog.
Probably a decorative piece from when another hooligan crashed there.
its an f1 airtag, Marko keeps track of all of his drivers
“Michael, we’re a little short of those bits of carbon. It would be great if we can get that back.”
It's ona them thingys
A coffe capsule... Max needs to keep his caffeine level high but Redbull has too much sugar
Looks like the left falange
*Adrian Newey wants to know your location*
People can just walk up and loot the crash site?
Was there for a formula student event, stands were open.
When you lick it, would you say its sweet or more salty? Or possibly sour?
It's Hamilton's secret device implanted to ruin Max's race. Horner will tell you all about it...
Thats the placeholder for where Lewis’s heart would be.
That's Lando Norris' watch !
Looks like a pog
A carbon fiber coin. Obviously
Would love to post a picture of me finding something at Christian Kliens crash in Monaco... $$$$
That is the burst disk of the battery pack
A part of a car?
Sell it for a shit ton of money
Perhaps part of a sensor, you should send this down the road to Mercedes HQ, they can help you know what it is.
it's a butt plug
Great minds think alike
Looks like a right hand to me. One of the stewards lose one in all the commotion?
carbon fiber buttplug for keeping waste inside the body when contact with Lewis sends you into the wall at 250km/h.
Only rated to 50gs so must have blown clean out of there when he hit the barrier.
Looks to be Lewis' sportsmanship, guess he lost it in the same corner!
It’s funny because it’s true!
