You should probably add somewhere whether this guide is for intramuscular or subcutaneous injections! I do sub-q and my process is different! Awesome guide though!!
Interesting how much variation there is - I also do subq and this is pretty much exactly my process!
This is so cute! Very nice, non threatening guide!
I work a queer-trans organization, would you be okay if we made this a resource for trans youth and maybe used it on campus?
Yeah for sure! Go ahead!
This is great, I’m definitely downloading this if I manage to get some T shots one day- About 3, what do you do if there is any blood?
Just take the needle out right away and discard it! It just means you hit a blood vessel or vein and don’t want to inject it there. You gotta start over in a new injection site, but don’t waste the medication, just switch the needle.
I find sipping on cold water before and during the injection helps me not feel faint.
Thanks for the tip. Sometimes I feel faint even when I’m not hungry. I’ll try this next time.
Im saving this 👀
i really want to start t but im fucking terrified of needles 😭😭
the thought of it makes me want to sob LMFAO
There is the gel, and my doctor told me there are T patches too. Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you. :)
Just did my shot. Took my 10 minutes of just back and forth lunging the needle towards my leg because I was so nervous. You think after being over 7 months on T I’d actually be comfortable doing it but nope!
This is fantastic dude, nice job!
Thanks. Starting T this month and I'm saving this!
Is aspirating still standard practice? I was specifically told by my nurse not to do it three years ago when I started T
It’s up for debate, my doctor told me to aspirate but the nurse who helped me with my first shot said it’s up to me. He explained that it’s becoming more outdated, not always necessary. I only do it because it makes me feel safer!
Yes! This is awesome! The problem I struggled with was hesitation. I would be all ready to go but I just couldn’t stick myself. The way I got over it was to be listening to music or have something going on in the background. Pinch the place where you are doing your injection and just do it! If I don’t get it right away, the chances of it happening get lower and lower.
Yeah, same. I'm pre-T but I'm diabetic and I have a hard time with hesitating with some stuff (only SOME of the needle things, for some reason?) as well and I listen to music to help me get past that.
Seeing this post reminded me that I need to order more needles, thank you!
P.S. Awesome Infographic!
When you draw into the needle, do you keep the stuff inside the actual needle tip? I have always wondered if I am supposed to draw everything into the barrel or not
My doc told me once I've removed the needle out of the vial, I should pull back the syringe so that the stuff from the needle all is in the barrel. Maybe double check with your doc at your next appointment, but it's a few drops' difference and if you leave the drops in the needle they'll just get thrown away.
this is really well made! i’m sure it’ll help a lot of people!
Thank you! It was fun to make :)
i saved this out of the hope that I might someday need it
Thank you this is really helpful!! Its super cute and comforting too
Are there alternatives to injections? I have a SEVERE phobia of needles.
There is androgel, you should talk with your doctor for more information as well :)
This is soooo good!! My injections don't work like this at all so it's interesting to see what others' t shot processes look like :)
i don’t change needles and inject straight into the top of my thigh but 🤷🏻♂️
With an 18g?
thank you 🌟
How do you feel after injecting?
Personally I don’t feel anything much. I don’t know exactly what you mean. Emotionally I don’t feel anything except like a little glad it’s over and a little happy and proud of myself. But mostly it’s a chore I finished. I look forward to it all week but in the end it’s a chore. Physically it’s a bit tiring. I usually lay down and relax. I’m six months on T. 37 yrs old, which I mention because age does change the experience. It’s less wild in a way.
May I ask what's the minimum age to start taking testostorone. Cus my therapist told me i should be at least 18.
Youngest I’ve seen was about 15. I started at 16. Parental consent is needed for minors
I love this 😭❤️
I inject subcutaneously in my stomach. Rarely experience any pain this way 😊
I have my doctor do it for me every time.
But I'm glad stuff like this exist
I love it ! So clear, lovely and useful
And then there’s me 11 months on T and my mom does it for me 🧍♂️
I'd love to do my T shots alone but all my nurses refuse to teach me and for them an IM is done only in the butt cheeks (I'd like to try in the thighs) :(
First of all I LOVE your art style!! It's so cute!! AhHH!!
Second, this is really helpful! Thank you for making this!! :')
i always wondered how people gave themselves their hormone injections, i'm lucky enough that my mom is a nurse so she can do mine for me and we've talked before about how difficult it must be for other people to do it themselves lol
also quick edit: i got my first injection standing up because i usually don't have any issues with needles... do not do that. i repeat, do NOT do that. i fainted lmao
This is great, easy to read and pleasing to the eye.
I love your art style! This is utterly adorable and the character reminds me of Lux from Owl House!
Why does it always say to pinch the skin? My doctor told me not to n idk why bc I still see everyone doing it
Pinching the skin elevates it so it’s easier to get the needle in! It also makes the process less painful. You need to let go of the skin once the needle is in though so it’s through the muscle.
Literally doing my first T shot in a few hours, so this is going to be very relevant very soon.
Also this is great on an informational and artistic level, love to see it :)
oh man thank you! i’ve been on t for almost 6 months and i still manage to do it wrong, most of the time.
I love this!
i love this so much!!!!! the art style is really cute!!!! all i have to say is that the "dont overthink it" thing is,,,,,, i cant really control my overthinking, so thats a sort of useless piece of advice for me. but otherwise, this is really good!!!!
This is awesome!!! After three years on t, I still struggle with the shot. May I share on IG? And if so, may I tag you?
Yeah of course! My IG is lacuna.daze :)
This is so cute! Love your illustrations!
As someone who’s deathly afraid of needles how can one do this without passing out at the sight of said needle or the sensation of something inside the skin?
