California is filing a lawsuit against Activision-Blizzard for maintaining a "frat boy" work culture.
Notable excerpts from the allegations include:
\- Pay discrimination between men and women, with men being promoted higher and sooner than their female counterparts, while women were frequently the first people terminated.
\- A whole slew of sexual assault and harassment
\- Men being allowed to play video games all day, while women were assigned responsibilities and micromanaged constantly
\- Women being given negative reviews while on maternity leave, and kicked out of lactation rooms so men could have meetings.
\- "Cubicle Crawls" where male coworkers would get drunk and then crawl around under the desks of female coworkers, harassing them.
\- A woman committed suicide on a business trip with her male supervisor after nude photos of her had been passed around at a company party.
Or, you know,... both.
Also don't forget about Ubisoft here, which systematically protected abusers behind the scenes while Yves Guillemot (the CEO) apparently didn't know anything about it. (That is either bullshit or he is record levels of incompetent.)
Or CD Project Red (Witcher, Cyberpunk), Netherrealms (Mortal Kombat) and Rockstar (GTA, Red Dead Redemption) who idolize crunch culture, working their developers to the bone (and past that).
And don't get me started on EA.
The game industry is a cesspool full of some of the worst companies in the world.
That’s why you gotta support the good ones, like SuperGiant(who did Hades, Bastion, Pyre, etc.). Employees have unlimited time off, but are required to take a minimum of 20 days off a year. Also, they mandate no emails after 5pm on Friday until Monday morning.
On top of that, they have built a culture of looking out for each other. If someone sees a coworker overburdened or burning out, they are heavily encouraged to either talk to the person or, if they feel more comfortable, bringing it up to their manager so they can set it right before the person cracks/quits.
Add on to the fact that Supergiant Games refuses crunch culture(rather opting for a “it’ll be released when it’s done” attitude) and they are one of the best developer out there and it shows in their work.
The fuck are these on the same level to you guys?? Or is this dude just using the meme format wrong?
This guy is using this as
(Quick look at his profile 100% sure, he is nintendo fan)
They're two completely different problems. One a woman lost her life to bullying and harassment. The other is just shitty business practices. Comparing the two things and making a meme about suicide is just dumb and inconsiderate. You also have every right to be upset about both
Dont compare a company being a company and a company driving someone to suicide.
This. One of these offenses is not like the other.
I never knew you could only dislike one thing at a time
That meme is in really poor taste. A women killed herself fgs
Yeah I see why people make reddit jokes when peeps post shit like this
What's wrong with you ? You're comparing the suicide and the humiliation of a woman (+ the full damn lawsuit) to corpos trying to get more money. You should delete this shit asap, mate, don't make memes about fucking dead people.
Isn’t the point of the meme that the top one is meant to be worse than the bottom one and that people criticise the top one more despite the bottom one being overall less serious?
Yeah I'm really ashamed of Reddit that this post has 2k upvotes. The meme is in really poor taste no matter how OP meant it
Using someone's suicide to make another company seem better is just horrible.
At least 14k people disagree. And that is actually horrible.
What the hell happened? Can someone pointme to an article about this? Didn't hear anything about this topcic of the suicided employee
Ofc the first thing Reddit does after hearing of a woman killing herself is make a meme about it
That's insulting. The *first* thing Reddit did was ask for a copy of the naked photos.
Why not both? We are allowed to be outraged at more than one thing at a time. The internet is weird.
Yeah one of these things is clearly way worse than the other anyway. But of course both are bad things.
Why not both?
What's the punchline? This is comedy? Usually you want the top half to be worse to drive home the satire. This just looks like having sound priorities.
I'm confused here,
is op saying Nintendo selling a remastered game port at full price is WORSE than driving someone to suicide, and that we should let Activation/Blizzard go and shame Nintendo?
Cause I hope that's not our priority.
GAMER BRAIN SIMPLE
GAMER BRAIN ONLY MAD AT ONE THING AT TIME
YOU USEDED TOO MANY MUCH WORDS
How about both
Dumbest meme on this sub thus far. These two aren't even comparable and honestly comes out as bad taste.
This is really distasteful, please stop upvoting this.
been boycotting Blizzard since the whole Hong Kong thing, this only makes it easier to never go back.
I mean, is Nintendo really the gaming company that deserved fire for anti consumer practices?
All companies should be put under fire for anti consumer practices, this however is not the way to do it.
Ah yes, because someone being driven to suicide is comparable to people not being able to get a deal on a fucking video game.
This is a really, really bad take.
Most of the people that complain about Nintendo's "anti-consumer practices" are mad about re-releases of old games and titles costing more than they want to spend (both of which aren't a problem if you *don't buy things you don't like*.)
They also shouldn't be compared to the suicide of an actual person.
Exactly. If you don’t like the price of something, that’s fine. It’s not “anti-consumer”, it’s just not a price you want to pay. And if you already played a game 10 or 15 years ago, why TF do you even care what a remaster costs? Go play something new and let the rest of us enjoy something for the first time.
OP and anyone that agrees with him is an absolute piece of shit for comparing the price of a video game to someone’s death. The sense of entitlement is mind blowing.
Mods, do your god damn job and delete this entire thread out of respect for the poor woman’s family. I can *easily* see the gaming press jumping on this with an article about Reddit equating the price of a video game with the tragedy of a suicide.
Yeah, I'd say what Activision did is WAY WAY WAY WAY worse than what Nintendo has done.
I keep seeing people shitting on Nintendo... can someone tell me what theyve actually *done* that has people shitting on them? Cause most of the time when a meme actually specifies, its either exaggerated, or just outright made up. Like one that got to the front page said Nintendo released games early and unpolished, when in reality Nintendo is notorious for delaying games over and over and over specificlaly because they *refuse* to release a game until its perfect. (or at least damn near it)
so like... what, specifically, has Nintendo done that has people acting like theyre the bad guy?
It's a stupid thing. People are mad because Nintendo sells all their games at 60usd and some people think it's anti consumer to sell a game at 60usd if they think it's not worth it.
If you justify Activision as the good guy for anything, you're the bad guy with them.
You can be mad at both, but activision is still way, way worse
wait, why are we mad at Nintendo?
People are mad at Nintendo because people who doesn't own a Nintendo switch and don't buy Nintendo games think their prices are high.
Because of that, they think that:
Harrasing women/being responsible of a woman's death = games they don't consider worth 60usd.
How does nintendo have anti-consumer practices out of curiosity? The only thing I can think of is shitty joycons? And maybe underpowered hardware 🤷♂️
People in reddit likes to call anti-consumer to everything they don't agree with, examples of Nintendo being anti consumer in Reddit's eyes:
- selling games at prices they don't think are fair.
- shutting down ROMS site because hey, it's anti consumer protect your IPs.
Plus a big list of lies that people likes to pass as truth such as: the "joycon boyz" joycons, the big house tournament and others.
Let’s not pretend there isn’t enough shame for both. Fuck both of those things.
One is infinitely worse than the other, but neither are right to ignore. This isn't an either or situation.
What a shitty image
Nintendo practices are NOTHING compared to Activison. Comparing both is insane.
imagine comparing a remastered that costs more than it should with a suicide and Frat Boy Culture
How about both??????????
I really hope this guy is using the format wrong. I mean one of them is someone killing themselves
Because re-releasing a ten year old $50 game for $60 is definitely the same thing as harrassing someone to death? Or are people bitching about something new with Nintendo.
Why does it have to be a female? Like what’s the difference between a male and female suicide? It’s sad and wrong either way
Wait what did Nintendo do? Are we mad about the new switch? Because that just seems like ineptitude. The activision thing is more like, you know, malice.
We really turned this into a meme? Ffs people
Please don't conflate Nintendo with goddamn ActiBlizz.
As a developer, Nintendo makes far higher quality products without all the scumfuck lootboxes and p2w microtransactions.
And as a company, they aren't harassing their female employees (that we know of).
Why you are defending Nintendo's shitty practices? People can be outraged by two unequal things and it's totally fine.
Also, Nintendo is anti-consumer? By gaming industry standards? While other developers are releasing broken, falsely advertised games full of unregulated gambling for kids, Nintendo games barely even have more than a dlc pass.
This meme either implies:
1. That Nintendo’s anti-consumer friendly policies are acceptable
2. Or that Nintendo is just as bad as Activision and that the suicide of this woman is not important or serious
Delete this trash
You don’t understand how this meme works, OP
What the fuck is this meme?
A woman is dead, Christ what is wrong with you people.
The gaming industry still isn't a safe place for women. Sickens me that a woman was driven to that due to such a high level of harassment. The companies need to do better or be put under reform or under regulation.
agreed. reading the part about male developers playing video games while female employees actually had to work hurt the most. these men skate by doing the bare minimum because some asshole has shitty opinions and a huge share in the company
This meme is in very poor taste i don't think bringing up a woman's suicide should be put into a meme format.
this post is so fucking bad it’s unreal
This is in really poor taste and OP you should be ashamed of yourself for karma-farming off of very serious allegations.
Very poor taste OP.
Both, both is good
wtf are you even trying to say? we should not shame activision??
Was it because she was a woman or was it something different or a bit of both. Genuine question, this is the first I've heard about this. Might be bc I'm living under a rock
Reddit is just chock full of Reddit moments today
Both. One wrong is not made right by a worse wrong existing.
Activision: perpetually setting the bar low as low as possible.
both suck, for different reasons
I worked on a rooftop where nether realms had offices, just after Mortal Kombat came out. I can confirm, they looked burned out. Every time I’d shout Mortal Kombat at them I’d get a half hearted wave. They did let me take a picture with their life size scorpion real doll tho and that’s pretty cool.
Why is everything a zero sum game with gamers? You can do both.
Let's be real here. Companies drive people to suicide all the time because shitty jobs and financial insecurity are two major causes for stress, anxiety, depression, and suicide. They just don't get called out for it because theres no way to prove they had any actual fault, even when they definitely did.
I don't think making a meme about the situation is very... well, It's tasteless to put it kindly. Dark humour is great and all, but I'd rather we kept it serious you know?
Wait, who drove who to suicide?
If I had one wish in life it would be to make myself immune to the misfortune of stumbling across some of these r/gaming Nintendo posters in real life. Using someone's suicide as a way to somehow prop up the company you worship is absolutely in terrible taste. Not to mention it's incredibly simple minded to think that you can't be frustrated with more than two things at the same time. Makes me ashamed that I am buying the same products as some of these people.
EDIT: Edited to remove the word "cretin", as I didn't appreciate my own language. Apologies.
Op must work for nintendo
The funniest in Nintendo fans constantly asking for ports and when they get it always complaining to why its not in 4k with 144fps handheld mode with bug fixes, then most importantly cry about the price rag in all youtube vids and telling everyone they aren't buying it to try to look woke, and in the end still caving into buying the game.
Shaming both for just generally being shitty
Not just driving her to suicide, but sharing her nude pictures at a company retreat after she had died.
Nice try nintendo
These things aren’t comparable what the actual fuck is wrong with you brain
Don't forget the fact Nintendo stalked and attempted to intimidate someone into quitting hacking the 3DS, something which is illegal and they never faced repercussions.
Don't fall into the garbage trap of what-about-isms. Companies are shit. Criticise all of them. Nintendo, Ubisoft, Activision, Microsoft, EA. Doesn't matter who it is. They're all bad in their own ways.
I mean... yeah? A company selling their product is not the same as a company driving people to suicide.
Wow, unless I'm missing something, is there really 12k+ Upvotes for a meme about someone killing themselves? I'm all for dark humor but that's kind of disturbing.
A subreddit for (almost) anything related to games - video games, board games, card games, etc. (but not sports).
