I've never had issues with mine, and it's 6 or so years old now. I run factory and Wilson Combat magazines in it with no problems. I'm not always a fan of Ruger, but I have to say I've been very satisfied with my 1911. Welcome to the club!
That's good to hear, I bought some mec-gar 8 round magazines, so let's hope they work as well as your Wilson ones did.
Thanks, I've got some 9mm's in the safe but nice to be in the .45 club also!
I see you also put it down……. I’ll see myself out
Great find. I’ve always been happy with my Ruger handgun. First one I owned, and it’s been with me for 15 years.
It took me two years to finally get a 1911 (harsh gun laws) but got there in the end! Can't wait to get to the range and put some rounds through and see if the Ruger quality is as advertised.
Even if the precious owner did something that make unreliable, Ruger has some of if not the best support in the industry. (In my personal experience)
I'm a Ruger guy, I currently own:
* Ruger SR9c
* Ruger Security-9
* Ruger MAX-9
* Ruger Mini-14 Tactical (re-stocked in an Accuracy Systems walnut stock)
* Ruger PC Carbine 9mm
* Ruger PC Charger 9mm
I've been thinking of picking myself up a SR1911 in 9mm.
Enjoy your new firearm!
Ruger guy here as well,
SR1911, AR556, Security 9, 4" stainless Security Six, 6" stainless GP100, 7.5" stainless .44 Mag Redhawk.
How do you like the Max 9 so far? Those really caught my eye when they were first announced, been looking at picking one up for myself.
Best gun I own.
I bought it on a whim a few years back because I found it on sale. ($519 brand new)
I absolutely love this gun. Every person who's ever touched it has been impressed.
Once we were out shooting with about 8 guys, and my BIL brought his Colt gold cup out. Every person there shot and compared both, and agreed there was no significant performance difference. Both were flawless.
My GF has the same model. Make sure you use the correct magazines and good quality bullets. Hers would jam when using cheap bulk ammo and an aftermarket magazine together. Also, watch the dot inserts on the sights. One of her rear sight dots fell out at the range.
Other than that, it feels quality, and shoots well. You'll be happy with it.
Mine fell out last week. Thankfully, I was able to find it and will probably but some sort of gorilla glue on it to keep it from falling out again.
I didn’t know Ruger made one!
They are pretty solid. I would say they are on par with Springfield's mid level 1911's.
Ruger doesn't make the nicest guns, and they don't make the cheapest.
But damn if I don't think they make some of the best for the money guns.
> Ruger doesn't make the nicest guns
I'm not sure what you mean by 'nice'.
I've got Ruger handguns (MK IV, GP100), a 10/22 rifle, and I had a Red Label 12 gauge.
All are well made(fit, finish, operation) and they've all functioned without complaint. I have zero complaints and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ruger-made firearms to someone I cared about.
Nice pickup! Ruger 1911's are solid.
After figuring out this thing picks tangerines off a fence at 25 yards right out of the box, an SR1911 is now my edc.
I recommend getting pachmayer combat grips that wrap around the front.
You’re a man now enjoy it
The 6700 was/is my first 1911 and it shoots better than I do! Good choice & enjoy!
First of many! They get addictive. I got a RIA, Kimber, a colt 70’s gov and a colt 70’s commander. Fighting the urge to get a sig Spartan.
I have the exact same firearm! Has been quite reliable and such a good shooter….. enjoy!
Be back to updoot in a moment, must clean my pants first
Good choice! Mine is very accurate, can't go wrong with the SR1911. Only issue I've had was with aftermarket mags. Ive shot all types of ammo with it, never had an issue.
had that same one, mighty fine weapon you got there.
Nice! Happy to hear you got your hands on the great 1911. Personally my favourite handgun
Got one too and I love it. Good decision.
Ruger 1911 CMD has been my EDC for 6 years! Good gun.
My buddy has the same thing. I've been trying to pluck it from his for years now. Its a great gun, great choice!
TIL Ruger makes a1911... Cool
Very nice. The Ruger 1911 was my first 1911 AND my first gun ever !
Picked up one a few years ago. Such a great gun. Plus, you can't beat the price for a 1911.
My buddies always like to joke that 1911s are jam sandwiches. One friend says that he has a 1911 that has never jammed, so on a recent shooting trip he brought it out to prove us all wrong. Jammed on the first round. We were dying.
You got a nice looking jam sandwich there.
Excellent choice. Was my first 1911 as well and still shoots like new. Mine was one of the first back in 2011 so I call it my centennial one since I didn't pick up any of the others with the anniversary markings.
When did these things become $1100? I feel like the last time I considered buying one they were around $800?
it looks mighty fine mate, have to admit that even tho i'm not the biggest fan of 1911s.
A lot of people will tell you to use branded mags *only* and that's kind of bullshit, unless you feel like paying 20-40$ for a single mag, then go right ahead. Just remember to do your own due diligence
I paid 45$ for 5 mags (from GunMag Warehouse iirc) when I got my rock island, all from the same company, 1 likes to misfeed on the first 2 rounds, so that stays in the range bag, but the other 4 run better than the factory Armscor mag it came with.
It’s definitely a test and see thing. I had the same experience when I had mine, I got several packs of 10 mags off of gunbroker. There were a couple from each batch that wouldn’t work but the rest ran well even if they were the same makes.
A lot of people ignore Ruger semi autos, probably because they don't really try for any fancy police or military contracts, but they're good guns. Their .22 target pistols are ubiquitous, they make solid 1911s, even if they only make them in silver colors for some reason.
That satin stainless finish is sexy as fuck. I wish they made a 9mm SR1911 in that finish but sadly they're all black and nickle two-tone monstrosities.
Welcome to the dark side :)
Good to know! I have two types of magazines now, let's hope they both work! Thanks.
Now you can put it in the trash, where it belongs!
But why tho
Why not? 1911's are classic and ruger makes good ones at a good price.

9mm or 45?
Like all 1911's should be, Single stack, Single action, .45 caliber
Europe hasn't really been hit by gun or ammo scarcity
What did it cost?
I'm in Europe so everything is more expensive, 1430€ so 1683$
How do you like it? I’ve heard bad things about Ruger 1911s
Looks very cool
This is the best pistol and no one can say otherwise (/s)
Man, 1911's are so confusing to me. I mean, they're some of the most beautiful pistols around the design is amazing, but I just can't get over the fuddness of them. "8 rounds of 45 kNoCkdOwN PoOoooWEer! because they don't make a 46!" Some of the new 2011's are sick as well but so stupidly expensive. It's like I want one badly but I never want to buy one ever. Such confusion. :|
not only picked up one... but you got a beauty!
Well, it could have been worse I suppose... could've been some korean or filipino import 1911.
I've got the commander size, very happy with it. For what they cost they're a fantastic 1911.
Ruger 1911s are also epic. My grandfather owns one and I love it
Where did you get it? This has been on my wishlist for years now
I love 1911. They have something polymer guns don't.
I bought this in 2011 on the 100 year anniversary of the 1911 Browning model when Ruger finally made their version. This is my favorite handgun it's so fun to shoot.
I like 1911s
DAMN, it's the same one that I want.
How much was it
Ok, this has been driving me crazy for seven movies now, and I know you're going to roll your eyes, but hear me out: Harry Potter should have carried a 1911.
Think about how quickly the entire WWWIII (Wizarding-World War III) would have ended if all of the good guys had simply armed up with good ol' American hot lead.
Basilisk? Let's see how tough it is when you shoot it with a .470 Nitro Express. Worried about its Medusa-gaze? Wear night vision goggles. The image is light-amplified and re-transmitted to your eyes. You aren't looking at it--you're looking at a picture of it.
Imagine how epic the first movie would be if Harry had put a breeching charge on the bathroom wall, flash-banged the hole, and then went in wearing NVGs and a Kevlar-weave stab-vest, carrying a SPAS-12.
And have you noticed that only Europe seems to a problem with Deatheaters? Maybe it's because Americans have spent the last 200 years shooting deer, playing GTA: Vice City, and keeping an eye out for black helicopters over their compounds. Meanwhile, Brits have been cutting their steaks with spoons. Remember: gun-control means that Voldemort wins. God made wizards and God made muggles, but Samuel Colt made them equal.
Now I know what you're going to say: "But a wizard could just disarm someone with a gun!" Yeah, well they can also disarm someone with a wand (as they do many times throughout the books/movies). But which is faster: saying a spell or pulling a trigger?
Avada Kedavra, meet Avtomat Kalashnikova.
Imagine Harry out in the woods, wearing his invisibility cloak, carrying a .50bmg Barrett, turning Deatheaters into pink mist, scratching a lightning bolt into his rifle stock for each kill. I don't think Madam Pomfrey has any spells that can scrape your brains off of the trees and put you back together after something like that. Voldemort's wand may be 13.5 inches with a Phoenix-feather core, but Harry's would be 0.50 inches with a tungsten core. Let's see Voldy wave his at 3,000 feet per second. Better hope you have some Essence of Dittany for that sucking chest wound.
I can see it now...Voldemort roaring with evil laughter and boasting to Harry that he can't be killed, since he is protected by seven Horcruxes, only to have Harry give a crooked grin, flick his cigarette butt away, and deliver what would easily be the best one-liner in the entire series:
"Well then I guess it's a good thing my 1911 holds 7+1."
And that is why Harry Potter should have carried a 1911.
The entirety of the story took place before Harry's 18th birthday. Even here in the US he couldn't have legally acquired a gun, and he literally didn't know anybody at the outset of the story, so how was an upper middle class white kid going to find an illegal handgun?
And compounding the problem would be the story setting, the restrictions in the UK mean there aren't as many opportunities for firearm ownership. I supposed they could attempt to make them using magic, but for whatever reason they live in a universe where these folks can master ridiculously complex magic governed as much by art and intuition as science, but can't seem to grasp a great many muggle concepts and devices which are objectively simple. Arthur Weasley works in an office that directly deals with muggle devices, yet seems to understand less about our world than most 5 year olds. I don't see firearms going much better.
Rugers good but I prefer colt
I seen this same exact airsoft gun on Amazon
