Inertia is the tendency for an object for an object to remain unchanged as in "An object in motion will stay in motion and an object at rest will stay at rest unless acted upon by an outside force"
The exact same phenomenon can be observed when wile e coyote is chasing the roadrunner over a cliff and then looks beneath him only to fall down. Yet in that scenario it is viewed unrealistic.

Inertia isn’t anything other than that natural state of an object. All objects natural states are to remain in its rest position. When you accelerate an object it takes a moment to generate the force required to move it out of its resting position into a moving one. The same can be said for it when it’s moving. It requires a certain amount of force to slow it down and because it is moving it will resist the deceleration until the correct amount of force required to decelerate it is achieved.
I think the air pushing up from the club face has something to do with this also

I don't think inertia has anything to do with we see in this gif. As u/d3008 said "Inertia is the tendency for an object for an object to remain unchanged as in "An object in motion will stay in motion and an object at rest will stay at rest unless acted upon by an outside force" " So, in the first frame, the ball as to opposing forces working on in: the gravity and the natural reaction of the 'tee'. So yes, if no force acted in that ball, it would stay. However, removing the tee, gravity would pull it down. The question here is the 'quickness of the actions'. Because if you remove the tee completely, the ball would fall
Or just watch my golf game, but not as good because my seeing takes up grass and is followed by cursing
