The question: How many groups have renewed their contracts without losing any members? Answer: 3.

This seemed to be coming up more often, I got curious and wanted to find out the exact numbers.

So, how many groups renewed their contracts without losing any members?

Groups from 1996 to 2017 reviewed.

* Of the 145 boy groups that debuted in that time, 78 are inactive
* Of the 205 girl groups, **161 are inactive**

The vaaaaaast majority of girl groups that disbanded were only active around year, and I feel compelled to say that looking into the end fate of all these girl groups that got to release 1 song then disband was profoundly, *profoundly* depressing.

Continuing on, groups that were not counted:

1. Groups that announced that they are on hiatus/disbanded
2. Groups that didn't have more than 2 members
3. If there has been no any activity from them since 2018
4. If that activity was not more than a reunion special/etc
5. If they lost any member they debuted with (adding members was okay)
6. If they were inactive for a period longer than 4 years

I did not count military time as inactive/disbandment, unless the group didn't produce anything new for a significant amount of time after enlistment was finished. I also tried to be generous in general about a lack of activity during the 2020 dumpster year.

So the three standing are -

* **Nu'est** (2012): 5 members - renewed contract 2019, ends 2022

* **BTS** (2013): 7 members - renewed contract 2018, ends 2024

* **Seventeen** (2015): 13 members - renewed contract 2021, unknown length

Upcoming renewals (forgive me if some of the renewal dates are off, truly each group is unique, I did try to research but found a lot of inconsistent years):

* Red Velvet (2014): 5 members - Up for renewal 2021
* Lovelyz (2014): 8 members - Up for renewal 2021

Sources for BH groups, I'm going to take Gfriend end date as 2021 as confirmation that this source is accurate, since many were taken off guard by that. https://taekooktimeline.tumblr.com/post/633730834104549376/where-are-people-getting-that-bts-contract-got

If you want to review the groups yourself, feel free to point out if I missed something because my eyes started crossing as I was working on this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1n_ESbC1W4TIAFfDDk_DuyllG9B3XGbqPyXPkzFFzXfc/edit#gid=1965691637 (always a work in progress so it might look rough)
