You can order a Handy Drill to help you put that bad boy together!
Kind of like using a razor blade to open a razor blade package.
Does it work?
Yea it does, it has a motor and is battery powered. It will work perfectly for my gun barrels and exhausts on my Warhammer minis.
Did you have to make a camera to take the picture?
This gives me an idea for some sort of Japanese game show, where a contestant lives in a small empty apartment for several months and has to assemble everything they want to use.
This packaging looks so good. Simple and clean.
Tamiya’s box art has been almost the same since the late 50’s/ early 60’s. They’re also very well known for making some of the best quality models.
Have to figure out a paint scheme for it
Yellow and black
Got so many fond memories of Tamiya RC and mini cars from growing up
That Dash Yankuro anime was something.
This is incredibly Tamiya lmao
I hope all the holes you need to assemble it are pre-drilled.
Weirdly someone else on Reddit bought the same thing and was talking about how it came on sprues just the other day. I actually had to check your history to see if you were the same person lol, but the picture is certainly a different one. Small world.
This was recommended to me after buying a Tamiya file for plastic models. Had a good laugh when I opened the box.
The Tamiya F1 cars are fantastic!
That’s awesome to hear, I haven’t done a car model in a long time but I’d love to do an F1
Not a model builder, so I'm curious. Is this a tool specifically for drilling the plastic material of model kits such as those that Tamiya sells? Or does it have the muscle to function like a drill you might use for woodworking? If the former, in the context of model building does a low power drill have a specific function that a standard drill would not achieve?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm model ignorant and trying to learn. Thanks!
It is specifically for drilling in model plastic. And since it uses collets to hold the bits instead of a chuck, you can use much smaller bits in it than you can with a regular drill, which is great for models since you're often working on very small stuff.
But how can you build it if you don't already have one? Ridiculous!
It’s electric handy drills all the way down
Electric handy. Nice.
Looks like an EZ IO drill for placing needles into bones.
Like plastic bones from a Halloween skeleton decoration? 😳
The packaging and fonts on some products (especially quite a few Japanese ones) evoke such a strong sense of nostalgia within me. I mean, look at the font and writing on the bottom right. It's like a tiny slice of a Miyazaki movie somehow; I don't know how to explain it, but it feels like I'm reminiscing about a time I never lived.
I heard you like models
It's like Primitive Technology, you gotta build the tools first before you build the things.
If they sold more stuff like this I'd just buy it to put it together for the fun of it.
Now...BRING GLORY TO THE EMPEROR OR CHAOS OR ELDAR or da orks or the greater good or just bug noises there is an awful lot of them
I just started playing and almost decided on orks but decided on death guard instead
I had one when I was a kid that had plastic sticks you used to "weld" the pieces rather than use glue. Wish I still had that.
Is it a model if it works?
I just built a stainless steel model of a boat plane with 8 working propellers. It runs on the same spring you’d find in a mechanical watch. Then goes through some gearing to each propeller. It’s finicky but it runs smoothly with some adjusting.
I don’t know if this is the right place for my opinion, but what the hell.
Tamiya bought that full size replica of the Sand Scorcher & displays it wherever they can. I would LOVE a full detailed 1/24 or 1/12 scale model of that thing(Tamiya quality, of course).
*Drill needed for assembly
It's a win win, sorta.
That is an awesome gift idea.
Don’t mistake it for a taser now, or we’ll call the Drill Sergeant.
Just started playing. In process of building a death guard army for my first army
They heard you like models, so they gave you a model tool, so you can model while you model.
I’m gonna need a half hour build video for that, with weathering and etched metal and epoxy parts.
It's a skill test. You must be smart enough and skilled enough to assemble the drill before you're allowed to use it. Good thinking. =p
In all honesty though, having it disassembled is a great idea. Anyone that uses it will be able to put something like that together in short order, and it lets them sell it for several dollars cheaper by not having to assemble it themselves. Everyone wins.
So you used the model to assemble the model...
I used the kit to destroy the kit.
feels like an r/twohealthbars type of situation lol
Shouldn’t this be Mildlyinfuriating
Edit: Unless it’s a real drill and it’s made like that because they know people who do models like this would like to put it together before using it?
Yes thats exactly the intention its actually really cool!
Another mildly interesting fact the company Tamiya is likely responsible for any of the connections on rc batteries you’ve ever used. They’re the inventor of the
[Tamiya Connector](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamiya_connector) which was originally designed for rc cars but had proved itself extremely handy for most drones, RC toys, chargers and airsoft guns. These guys have definitely influenced a number of hobbies I have.
Thats super cool dude
Such a letdown, but then a fun project too. 🤣
"Wear eye protection during use". How fast does that sucker spin?
So, if you needed to drill holes in this kit to assemble it, you’d be screwed.
Why would you not just buy a normal cordless drill?
That way you could use it for other stuff too and it’s likely much higher quality as well
Epic Weapon quest IRL
I can’t stop laughing, thanks!
We need to go deeper
I had a Tamiya RC Striker which was a buggy when I was 8. It’s obsolete now but it was fun to trick out with after kit shocks, tires, and bearings.
So much fun was had driving and jumping over speed bumps watching the car get air.
You posted this here to trick ur self into thinking everything is ok and that u r not upset with the fact that u don’t have a drill for models of things
Like putting a hat on a hat.
This has a vaguely /r/2healthbars aura
(scratches head at the uniqueness of this)....... Did it work?
Haven’t built it yet but it’s supposed to, don’t know how well though. May just be a novelty
I loved Tamiya models as a kid. 100% expected the drill to be a kit :P
Magnetise them all!
Easy assembly. Tools required:
2) electric drill
Aww, cripes. I didn't know I'd have to write a description. How many words is that so far, like a hundred? Soooo, yeah. Mildly interesting stuff. Stuff that interests you. Mildly. It's in the name, ffs.
