He's the first coach who talks like he gets what it's like to be a Lions fan. He was here as a player during the Millen era so he knows what we've been through and what we're tired of hearing. I loved it when he said that. "You've heard enough of that shit." We really have. Reminds me a bit of Jim Schwartz. Schwartz had a lot of losing seasons but we loved him because he got pissed off on the field and we had been through years of deer-in-the-headlights, "yes ref it's okay to fuck us over on a bad call I won't say anything" coaches. Yeah we lost but at least he looked like he gave a shit.
I hope we win but even if we don't I think this coming era of the Lions is going to be much better to watch than the Patricia era. Even when Patricia won games, it wasn't fun to watch. The only Matt Patricia-coached game I enjoyed in his three years was the one where we blew out Green Bay in their own stadium 31-0, and it turned out that particular week all the players just practiced without Patricia and did things their way instead. But other than that, most of those wins were just watching a bad team get lucky. Everybody was just playing in slow-motion. The games were just boring. Honestly I'd rather watch a Jim Schwartz close loss than a Matt Patricia win most of the time.
