Article to original incident in SC. Adams is reported to have killed 5 in a mass shooting, including 2 children.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/five-including-doctor-his-two-grandchildren-killed-south-carolina-shooting-n1263411
Adams was a 7th round pick of the 49ers in 2010, playing one season before spending the next three in New England and Oakland. Adams also signed with the Seahawks, Jets and Falcons.
The York County coroner’s office said Dr. Robert Lesslie, 70, and his wife, Barbara Lesslie, 69, were pronounced dead at the scene along with grandchildren Adah Lesslie, 9, and Noah Lesslie, 5.
A man who had been working at the home, James Lewis, 38, from Gaston, was found shot to death outside, and a sixth person was hospitalized with “serious gunshot wounds,” York County Sheriff’s Office's spokesperson Trent Faris said.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak publicly, said Adams' parents live near the doctor's home in Rock Hill, and that he had been treated by the doctor. The source said Phillips killed himself after midnight with a .45 caliber weapon. (Note : Phillips is supposed to be Adams. An error by the AP)*
A biography page of Dr. Lesslie said he and his wife of 35 years raised four children. He had been practicing medicine in Rock Hill since 1981, according to
the Riverview website. He received his degree at the Medical University of South Carolina and has worked in the surrounding Rock Hill area and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Rock Hill is a city in northernmost South Carolina about 25 miles (40 kilometers) southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina.
*NOTE : I submitted the error to the AP, I have recieved an email that the mistake has been fixed. The article has also been updated with the correct surname.
Dr. Lesslie and his family were good family friends of ours. I worked on his property (where this occurred) for 6 months and spoke with him on a daily basis. He was truly an amazing person and his wife had something special about her. This really hits home. It was also the birthday of the mother of the children who were murdered. It doesn't feel real. A sad reminder of terrible things that can happen to the nicest people.
Edit: I worked there in 2017, so I hadn’t been there recently. However, I wanted to send him a Christmas gift this year of a handmade wooden stein(?) since he was into home brewing. And he had reached out and helped me out and then offered me a flexible job during a difficult time when I was between jobs.
My mom has known Dr Lesslie for decades and just started working for him at the end of last year. I can't even begin to describe the pain in her voice when she called me yesterday to tell me what happened
- Two murder sprees
- Watson's massage escapades
- VJax dying, which (afaik) we're still not sure how/why
Pretty ugly offseason, and it's only April. But don't worry, that 17th game will definitely help cut down the long term physical/mental damage to players.
I cant even begin to imagine the pain the surviving family members must be feeling. They lost their parents and their children in a violent way. I'm not religious, but I really hope whatever forces could be out there rally and support them. This is brutally tragic
A lot of people in this thread blaming CTE which is certainly a possibility. However, given one of the victims was a general practitioner, I wouldn't rule out the fact that Adams had a controlled substance use disorder and that the victim refused to keep prescribing him controlled substances. Also wouldn't rule out the fact that the physician looked after the suspect's loved ones and that Adams felt that their loved ones was "wronged" in some way, especially since it looks like Dr Lesslie was practicting palliative care.
As a physician, we deal with angry patients and families on a daily basis and I have noticed an increase in aggressive/violent rethorics towards healthcare workers recently. Hell, just peak on r/chronicpain if you really want to see how some people feel towards physicians...
A guy in MN a couple months ago shot up a clinic because they refused to prescribe him any more opioids. It’s certainly a possibility that he had a chronic drug problem + mental health problem. Either way, incredibly sad

That's crazy. Just yesterday Travis Rudolph was arrested for murder and now this.
Multiple murders, Jones father dying, the continuing Watson saga, this has been an ugly and unfortunate week.
Killed two kids, aged 9 and 5. Fucking hell
He actually killed the grandparents and the kids. Those poor parents lost their parents and their kids all at once.
Also I believe he killed a neighbor of the grandparents as well.
Is this 2 quadruple homicides from 2 separate former players in a week? What the fuck, man?
I believe this makes two members of the 2011 Patriots that allegedly murdered multiple people and then killed themselves.
He killed his doctor, as well as his doctor’s wife and two grandchildren, Adah (9) and Noah (5). Fuck this piece of shit.
He killed another guy that was working at the home too.
Well that fucking sucks
Killed a doctor and 2 children. This is the type of story that makes the world look more bleak

Jesus imagine losing your parents and children on the same day. That is so depressing.

This off-season seems like there's more arrest and fucked up shit happening than last years, rip the victims

This is utterly horrific. Really, what more can you say?

fuck this guy
"Killing of doctor and 4 others" So 5 then.
Fuck you Phillip Adams. Rot in hell motherfucker
Into the memory hole
First, we need a SERIOUS tag. Second, jesus christ. RIP to all the victims.
The fucking kids man... the kids:'(
Reading the article I was getting annoyed with people making excuses for this guy. Fuck him, murdering scumbag.
Just randomly kills a doctor and his family for no reason? What a piece of garbage.
I clearly don't know the reason but it's not like he had zero connection to the doctor. He had treated Adams in the past.
This happened 15 minutes away from my house. My mom told me the doctor and his wife were her childhood friends. What the fuck is wrong with people.
