New Imperator update is amazing, as in the End Game you actually have enemies and don't just snowball out of control like the endgame of literally every other paradox game. I seriously dont know who will win when i clash with rome.

I really think they should change Egypt's colours though...
It's camouflage
Rule5: imperator is very good now and has the best end game of any paradox game IMO
Played as Sparta, took down Macedon with Rome, unified Greece. Got steamrolled by rome. 10/10, amazing comeback paradox
Ok ok, you guys keep going with posts like this & you just might convince me to buy it. I looooove CK2/3 & Stellaris. EU4 not so much. I love the ancient Rome time period tho, but I've always been on the fence about buying Imperator because apparently on launch it sucked balls. Maybe one day if people keep saying its getting good I'll pull the trigger & buy it. I almost bought it last week for $8.50, but I dont wanna waste 8 bucks on a crappy game, ya know?
Just to add my two cents... I'm also not a big fan of EU IV (and a huge CK2 fan) and so far, Imperator is very fun and i would recommend it to every ck2 player.
I miss some of the RPG elements, but the way they implement missions, governments and population is very interesting, and worth a look - maybe even add some of it in ck3, who knows!
My current gripe is that they use the tech system in a way that doesn’t feel consistent. Turning Carthage into a dictatorship is done with tech for example instead of missions or decisions. Why?
Yeah the Tech/Decisions/Politics divide is a bit problematic and it's something a lot of games focusing on human politics struggle with.
Many social-political changes happened as a result of technological changes, but also these changes were not arrived at in the same way a technology was invented for instance. Better consistency in game of tech v politics would be a good start but I have yet to see a system that is good at modelling social development but still being fun game wise. For instance CIV6 broke it down to a civic tech tree and the regular science tech tree, where implementable policies were opened up via their respective techs.
It's 683 already, I don't think you'll have time to find out. You only have some 40 years left. And that's my main issue with the game. The timespan of 277 years is just way too short.
The game lets you continue after the end. You can keep playing (just no achievements).
Heard this comment on No CB Podcast. When you play a history game set in this time period you do it for two reasons- 1. to play as Rome 2. to beat Rome Great update. Edit: no Reddit I want the comment as is please stop formatting it
or, to beat carthage after ai carthage beat rome. but that is the only other reason.
Mmmm...that sexy Carthage. Got it for 8 bucks on GoG a couple of days ago. Gonna try it out thanks!
to bad i don't understand the game at all, when i tryed it it felt like half CK and half EU, but not as good as either and harder to get into.
Have you tried it since the update?
At this point, it really feels more like a combination of Stellaris/Vic2/CK than EU. It's something of a map painter, but this is an era of history where map painting occurred.
In a lot of ways, I think this 2.0 update has made Imperator into it's own game. If you still have the game, give it another try, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
UPDATE TO MY END GAME POST: RED ALERT ROME IS CREATING THE OFFICIAL EMPIRE BORDERS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA PARADOX HAS GONE TOO FAR IN IMPROVING THE GAME AND AI ITS ALL OVER SELEUKID BROS AAAA [https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1755812129005317918/2CF03BBF0F8DFAB301ACCD0493D159C53BEE46A7/](https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1755812129005317918/2CF03BBF0F8DFAB301ACCD0493D159C53BEE46A7/)
Oh, you removed the end date?
See, that's a good example of my main issue with Imperator.
If you were playing the vanilla ironamn game, your game would have ended 40 years ago quite anti-climatically.
I read the northern red blob as Frisia at first
Frisia does exist in-game, but they seem to have been conquered here
Still waiting on that Christianity+expanded timespan dlc
I’m afraid if people won’t start buying it now, we can’t expect any DLC in the future
It helps that the map is very good. In other games, controlling western europe means you are already more powerful than the rest of the map combined. Here, the wealth across the map is more evenly distributed.
Gave it a chance and played I:R for a first time today. Felt like a mashup of other Paradox games. It was kinda fun for few hours, played about 40 IG years but I don't know whether I want to continue. What irked me is that war AI seems a bit disappointing, as usual irritating guerilla maneuvering by miniscule armies, lack of "decisive battle" feel, logistic system that is very lenient for computer player in order to avoid it killing itself by accident. I've saw some additional stuff connected to logistics in I:R like baggage trains, but haven't yet felt its impact on warfare. Natural borders & features played a huge role in ancient warfare. Rome fortified its borders along Rhine and Danube after considering Germania as being too poor and unwelcome to even bother conquering. Campaigns in mountainous terrain were quite hard and unrewarding, that's why empires considered it easier to just leave local tribes as it were, getting some tribute from them etc. Rome expanded through the Mediterranean because maritime transport was often easier & the lands around were simply richer. Paradox still is very reluctant to take such strategic issues into consideration (or has problems doing it correctly, I don't know). Dislodging enemy from mountainous position is just marginally harder than fighting him on plains. Regarding the AI expansion, it just blobs in every direction. Some people would probably find my approach too constraining, but I would love to see AI factions having some defined geographical borders they treat as "barbarian" and avoid directly expanding there. Creating tributaries & client states there? Absolutely cool. Direct conquest? Not worth it. I kinda wonder if it is possible to mod in such expansion boundaries. All in all, because of these few flaws in approach, from military point of view I:R and other Paradox are quite close to being just a prettier Risk. Guys surely could do better. EDIT: I've checked the game files and it looks like there is much more stuff available for modding, so it's interesting how much of stuff I described above could be modified. There are many modifiers available in defines file which weren't used before. It looks promising.
why egypt has a disgusting color lol
My money's on Cyprus
Are you on now your 5th or 6th Syrian war Antiochus? You need me to draw a circle for you /s
In my current Rome game it literally took me a whole real life hour and 20 in game years to scrape out a white peace with Macedon and it utterly crippled my economy and wiped out my legions. This game is so fun now because unlike other paradox games the AI is way tougher and much more willing to declare war if you're around the same strength. I can say that I strongly recommend.
Nothing like carthage declaring war on you, fighting them to a stand still then having your progress on the battlefield wiped out because of a disloyal character dragging almost half your nation into a civil war which you manage to put down and start pressing the carthaginians only to have rome declare war on you and force you to stop advancing to deal with the new threat
Have sat on this since release...time to come back?
yup
Smh, still no Victoria 3
Egypt and Carthage don't look bad either. If 2 or 3 of them ally against you its gonna be rough. Interesting Game!
My main issue with the game was the buildings. I liked trying to optimise the pop and all but most buildings feels like they do nothing at all
How do you have such high stability with that much aggressive expansion??? I am playing basically my first real game as Rome and I am stuck at 15 stability due to like 30 aggressive expansion. I would totally start steamrolling Gaul or Hispania or Greece, but I just cannot do anything with this stability.
huh i have no idea but like the other guy said probably some tech, im so far into the game that i researched every military tech adn most religious ones as well as good portions of the other trees
Wait, its out already?
How's the tutorial in this game? Just bought a copy after seeing the good feedback for the 2.0 update (and because it was dirt cheap). Excited to try it out.
Tutorial is lacking, imo. It gives you a list of short term goals to introduce you to important concepts, but doesn't give much information about how to accomplish those goals and where to find the right buttons to click. It'll take a little time to explore the UI. Once you do that, not so bad.
Rome is terrifying in this game as it should be
definitely excited to fire up this game again. I'm going to watch the new tutorials first.
If you think the ending ai of other paradox games are "out of control", I've got some news for ya 👉👈
Now how’d Frisia end up in the Baltics?
I want to play this but I am so lost. My only other Paradox game is CK3. How the heck do I learn this game?
There are tutorials on youtube by lord lambert and denistoned
