Republicans sure buy into it.
My father just a few days ago;
"Everytime a Democrat takes office they spend like there's no such thing as a deficit." To which I promptly reminded him of his support for the Trump tax cuts. "it's different."
Also remind him spending increased more than [$800 Billion](http://www.crfb.org/blogs/spending-has-increased-800-billion-under-president-trump) under the last administration.
“Pay people not to work.”
Unbelievable. If we had just paid people not to work back in March 2020 we’d have saved tens (hundreds?) of thousands of lives.
Yeah, but then shareholders wouldn't have made *as much* money.
That's what matters to the GOP.
The only people still buying into the GOP are Qultist
It's why Mitch decided to give his party the excuses they needed to acquit trump. They play a pure power style of game and they know that without trumps base, they don't stand a chance.
It's been on display since 2014, the GOP fully understands that they could indeed shoot someone on fifth ave and still be elected.
Look at Flying Cruz ffs, his fiasco Cancun trip would have been career ending just 5-6 years ago.
Remember. The only reason the trial didn't start while trump was in office was that mcconnell prevented it. He set the schedule on the night of the EC confirmation vote in the congress. He knew impeachment was coming and came up with a game plan to sabotage it that early.
He did it intentionally to give himself cover to play both sides.
Once the DOJ steps in, he'll cry abuse and use it to fundraise off of.
Mcconnell is a monster. I say that with no exaggeration of the word.
He is pure evil.
Screw the GOP. They blew money like it was going out of style while they made the decisions on where the money was going (tax cuts for the rich, big business, and war). Now that they no longer hold the purse strings, they’re “very concerned” about spending.
The GOP is responsible for the debt. Don’t let them forget that.
I'll never forget how amidst all the flag-waving during the Iraq War years, how the GOP refused to actually *pay* for it.
Trust me, there is still people out there buying that claptrap.
From Pinellas to the Villages, everyone agrees lol
How many times can they cry wolf before their base fully wakes up?
For at least 70 years and counting as we’ve seen.
Everyone should just consider everything that the GOP say's is bullshit to begin with.
I think most people do at this point, Republicans just haven't realized it yet because they're so far in the bubble.
What a dumb headline. Everyone who bought into it a year ago is still doing it.
The whole run up the deficit during a GOP administration and then becoming a deficit hawk when a Democratic administration wins the oval office goes back to reagan.
Biden releasing emergency aid to Texas regardless of political alliances is a start. The Republicans like cruz making emergency aid a political football is a nadir that needs to be tossed in the dustbin of history.
The democrats need a 2 term run in the oval office. They need to reverse the neo-liberal agenda that reagan and thatcher embedded into the world's economy. And that clinton and blair reinforced with their appeasement in their "third way" policies.
Biden needs to eschew divisive political rhetoric, not take the bait of republicans and right wing news organizations and show the country that the federal government is capable and essential in certain spheres of everyday life.
Obviously, the pandemic is one place where biden can and will show the effective use of federal intervention. Infrastructure investment should have been a slam dunk for trump. We have deteriorating infrastructure and pete buttigieg was and excellent pick for transportation secretary.
And then there's the green new deal. At this point, it's common sense that this needs to be at the forefront of policy for the immediate future. This will provide many well paying jobs.
Privatization that ran rampant for decades needs to be reviewed. Prisons are one industry that I feel needs to be addressed. As well as probation and parole services.
Another issue that the Democrats need to address is labor unions. The gap in earnings that has grown ever wider since the 70s is immoral at this point. Families have both parents working full time jobs and are ONE catastrophe away from homelessness.
And don't get me started on health insurance.
Voter's rights, gerrymandering and citizens united need to be addressed. Not sure what can be done with CU, but all the dark money is choking our democracy.
Bold of you to assume that a neoliberal like Biden will undo neoliberal policies
You haven't read the comments section on FoxNews.com at all, have you?
It's embarrassing it took so long but I feel like we're finally realizing how integral Two Santa Claus Theory is to the GQP strategy.
[The GOP used a Two Santa Clauses tactic to con America for nearly 40 years | Salon.com](https://www.salon.com/2018/02/12/thom-hartmann-how-the-gop-used-a-two-santa-clauses-tactic-to-con-america-for-nearly-40-years_partner/)
Always nice to see the mainstream catch on to things that were obvious 15+ years ago.
The idea that Moscow Mitch and company are concern about the budget governing the very Democracy they tried to overthrow is both laughable and idiotic.
They already know what is coming.
We need to increase taxation at the upper income levels to reduce the deficit.
As long as we get what we pay for, who cares.
Living in rural red Arizona, there's a disconnect fueled by propaganda and fear that drives red voters to see the same numbers, but come to a different conclusion as to why it's bad when democrats do it.
Hell, even in public education, we have plenty of intelligent staff members who vote red, believing it's in their best interests.
The messaging they've consumed for the past 30 years has fueled a sense of resentment stroked by racist undertones.
They're struggling to keep what little they have. These are people barely getting by, but due to their hardwork and sacrifices, they're doing better than those 'other' folks. Under democrat control, they believe that hordes of illegal immigrants, welfare queens, and lazy people will get all the benefits (and more) for doing nothing. They believe and fear that they'll suddenly be the 'others' -- with the caveat that they'll have to continue to work as they do now, in order to fund the imagined extravagant lifestyles of the freeloaders.
It's zerosum thinking. The messaging they consume never explains that they'll benefit too. Instead, it fuels a sense of impending loss.
It's easy to just say they're racists. Sure, some are, but there are fairly normal folks being steered to these beliefs due to a steady diet of right wing propaganda.
It's because for the last 30 years, the only time they've ever complained about it is when a Democrat is President, even though their Presidents are the ones always inflating it to a new level. It's like fucking clockwork.
Every time I hear somebody say, "how are we going to pay for it?" I tell them to ask the rich to give back the trillions of dollars in tax breaks that they didn't need.
Uneducated voters eat that shit up like corn flakes.
You keep forgetting something: very few Republicans actually believe the stuff they say. They know it's all bullshit. Both politicians and voters.
It's about being able to justify their policies and appease white grievance.
Why buy into it the GOP owns almost 3/4 of the national debt. When they are in charge they spend like there is no tomorrow! When they aren't in charge, they talk like they are the most frugal people in the world. The main problem is they raise the debt to lower theirs and make their donors even richer. They don't care about the average citizen, never have, never will!
Every time they've had a chance at lowering the deficit, they give rich people and corporations a huge tax break. And the last best shot at balancing the budget was from Bill Clinton, who was a much better Republican than he was a Democrat with that and all the deregulation allowing massive corporate consolidation.
He always looks like he has a mouthful of Trumps cum and can’t seem to swallow.
I fervently hope this title reflects the truth.
The "deficit lie" has been a sore point with me for several years and include democrats (as well as republicans) playing that "card" on too many occasions.
Had a client meeting over zoom and he complained about the new COVID bill cost. I asked him if he felt the same way for all the other bills passed under Trump, including the tax bill. He just looked at me dumbfounded and couldn't explain why now it was bad. We both knew why, he just wouldn't say it out loud.
Hey, good to know the "Boy who Cried Stonks" method isn't working any more.
The GQP and their brainless cult is still buying it. Conveniently, it only happens when a Democrat is in charge though.
> Republican alternatives to the measure coming to the floor are not to be found, nor have any potential compromises been raised to accompany these sudden objections. Not that it matters, but one is left with the strong impression that the House GOP would oppose this bill even if it included a plethora of sweeteners aimed at winning Republican support.
Party of No. What else is new. When’s the last time they actually engaged in constructive governance?
They will after fox news repeats it for the 10,000th time.
The main thing republicans will always do is give rich people money. No matter what it costs or who it hurts.
The fearmongering isn't for you, it's for the faithful who only listen to Fox, OAN & Newsmaxx. They live in a different world than you and me.
They’ve started fear mongering over inflation now.
