2000 dead in New York gave us the Patriot Act, DHS, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, plus the most damaging of all a second George W. Bush presidential term.
4 American dead in Benghazi had the Secretary of State at the time subject to countless investigations possibly tens of thousands of man hours.
500,000 American dead, a moment of silence.
This is why I don't buy into the idea that the last 4 years of hell is going to be on any swing voter's mind in 2-4 years. People will pay the ultimate price to appease conservative dogma, "home of the brave" be damned.
500,000 dead from a pandemic, GOP like 🤷♂️
Rush Limbaugh dies: 😱😢😭😭😭
Get that fucking flag at half mast, Florida! We lost a Presidential Medal of Freedumb recipient!
The lack of leadership cost Americans lives.
You can debate quantities all you want but the facts remain that denying science and saying COVID will just go away cost the lives American citizens.
Hundreds of thousands died needlessly.
Some accountability is necessary or we will just repeat this tragedy all over again the next time a pandemic occurs.
Especially so because there were no attempts at internal accountability.
The GOP knee jerk reaction of doubling down and spouting misinformation in case of any internal failures does not lend itself to organizational learning and improvement.
The GOP is rotten to the core but let's not leave out our weak infrastructure, shitty healthcare systems, and racist and misogynistic treatment structures and biases that make these outcomes so worse. These systemic issues continue to exist under democratic administrations as well. The GOP's an issue but America has deep systemic and cultural issues.
I’d add a failing educational system to that list. A failure in quality through high school and a gross failure in costs at colleges and universities. Coupled with health care, infrastructure and internal divisions...this will clearly not be the US’s century like one might argue the last one was.
To be fair, greed is the rot of more than just GOP ideology. Let's not pretend they aren't motivated by their economic interest. Corruption is for profit, not for fun.
GOP ideology was corrupted by pursuit of profit; greed. The ends don't justify the means in politics or economics but that isn't what capitalism sells us.
There isn't anything inherently wrong with markets and private ownership of capital. They need to be checked by labor and by the government, certainly. But market mechanisms are the only halfway-efficient way to solve certain economic problems, and efficiency in production is what creates wealth. We just need to make sure that that wealth is equitably distributed.
GOP doesn't really have an ideology. Just this; get money, fuck everyone else.
The followers have an ideology, and it's ugly. Their leaders have a racket.
And yet 70+ million endorsed 4 more years of it. The standard of education needs to be increased exponentially. It may already be too late.

Can you imagine if Trump had actually worn a mask and told his dumb ass supporters to do it?
They listened to him wanting to take the Capitol, he could have gotten them to wear masks.
He did do that. Briefly. Too little, too late.
Even after 500,000 deaths, there are still a lot of (R)s that downplay the pandemic and pretend that it doesn't exist.
A lot of whats?
Sort of shows that "pro life" is not really a concern - keeping women subservient seems to be what the GQP really cares about.
But there was a trans athlete once somewhere. Liberals are destroying America! /s just in case it wasn’t clear.

Only a handful of Republicans of any import died from it. Everyone else never mattered. It's a major win as far as the GOP is concerned.
The rich got a hell of a lot richer out of this.
Anyone who has been paying attention has been well aware of this consuming rot for much longer than the last year.
lmao Republican ideaology is apparently "Everyone dies. Let's move on!"
[too many wearing Captain Teflon suits thinking "I'm the one who can outwit everyone, bend the rules and system to my needs, and get a way with it muhahaha"](https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/lbnwak/comment/glv2hng)
This is not "rot", it is literally their basic tenet. GOP conservatism believes in a ruthless, animalistic world where government only protects property, not people. Letting people die for the sake of the economy was very clearly their objective from the state.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.salon.com/2021/02/22/500000-dead-americans-one-year-of-covid-exposes-the-rot-of-gop-ideology/) reduced by 87%. (I'm a bot)
> While Republicans love to quibble to muddy the waters around pandemic failure assessment, there is no denying that Donald Trump's approach to the coronavirus - do as little as possible, push for premature re-openings, hide the evidence by discouraging testing - led to hundreds of thousands more dead Americans than we would have seen under a competent administration.
> Despite efforts from Republicans to leverage mewling about "Unity" and "Bipartisanship" to drag down the amount that Biden plans to spend, Democrats are moving forward with a $1.9 trillion package proposed by Biden, which they can pass through the budget reconciliation process that only requires 50 votes in the Senate, with Vice President Kamala Harris as the tie-breaker.
> There are years of Republican malfeasance to the chronic wealth inequalities and lack of health care, capped off with half a million dead from a pandemic and a decaying infrastructure system.

The Democrats suck in their response and are reactive in operation. The Republican are obstructionist- white supremacist- science denying- fake christians that will denying objectively prove able information for the sake of “patriotism” - in my 45 years on the planet, the selling out to trump is by far the low point. It’s not merely policy, it is the erosion and perversion of the core civic principles we were taught about America in public school.
Is it bad that I'm unsurprised that something like COVID can do this much damage? Diseases like the bubonic plague killed at minimum 75mil people during the late medieval times. An avoidable disaster but here we are, deaths attributed by the incompetence of the GQP.
you make a good point. i thought of the bubonic plague many times when I was feeling existential.
They've already forgotten all about Herman Cain, Ron Wright, Luke Letlow, and probably a host of local reps who've died from Covid like NH House Speaker Dick Finch. They might as well have never existed for how much the GQP cared about their deaths.
Remember when they spent months trying to imply that wearing a mask was somehow akin to being a communist? I mean, fucking hell.
Never forget that the GOP's refusal to take the pandemic seriously resulted in more American deaths than the combined military might of the Axis powers during World War II. Yet they're the ones who scream incessantly about being "patriots." 🤔
Trust me, their rot has been prevalent for years. It was only compounded by their support of the Inciter-In-Chief.
Trump killed them period
Death and illness are inconsequential to the Republicans unless they can make money off of it. The fact is, as a whole it is a party of sociopaths who have no real interest in governing nor moving the country forward, only lining their own pockets. Their only ideology is greed and they use racism, sexism, homophobia, fear, and nationalism as means to an end. I can literally say nothing nice about them as a party.
Gop still doesn’t care.
The Republicans/Trump owns this, no doubt. The richest most, powerful in the country has the biggest death toll, vs. much more lower tolls in other, much more poorer more populous countries.
This is actually quite incredible, that Americans are not calling for the GOP to be shut down for all the corrupt shit they commited, yet they still quite popular! I guess that you get what you wish for!!!
Q-anon republicans are the CANCER of ours Democrats Institutions 🤬🤬🤬
It’s Trump’s legacy.
According to Trump it was going to be gone by last summer. Heat will kill it. It’s a “hoax.” Just eat disinfectant, etc.
Now the COVID-19 death toll is approaching the Spanish Flu death toll of 675,000 Americans. It took 2 years for the Spanish Flu to reach 675,000. Took one year for COVID-19 to kill 512,590 Americans.

His superior disease-repelling smart genes. /s
Can anyone explain to me why the GOP went with the narrative they went with? What did they gain from letting their voters die?
I can explain it: it's the narrative Trump went with, and the GOP is firmly attached to Trump's ass. As for why Trump decided to go with downplaying, denying, and ignoring the crisis, who knows? Had he just let the experts do their job and got out of the way he could have sailed into a second term.
Someone please remind me again what were Jared Kushner's qualifications to be a pandemic team leader?
He was the son that Donald Trump never had.
It's weird how science and facts and common sense would teach you that when you don't do much except say it's a scam, or made up, or the numbers are wrong....blah blah blah blah blah.... you see the results of that. The horrible, very real and terrible results. Common sense people, come on.
Edit: To quote a true gem 💎 of a human being, Mr. Jim Lahey (RIP) of the Trailer Park Boys...
"Now I'm not sayin' that I can't handle it, but obviously...things happen. And you see the results and the fruits of the happening"
GOP’s ideology is that there’s two kinds of decency. The kind where they win. That’s being decent. That other kind? That kind of decency doesn’t matter. They sell it, but it’s an export. They sell it because they don’t use it.
Here’s something scary: We’re still not done.
The pandemic almost certainly cost Trump the election. Had he won the final body count may have been far higher.
As long as poor people and minorities are dying it’s ok to them...
Chris Christie still hasn't figured out why the others have no interest in his experience of being hospitalized with covid.
It isn’t the Republican Party, it is abject capitalism and the refusal to establish MEd4ALL as a national healthcare system!
Let's be real, the Dems are failing pretty hard on this one too.
There is a complete systematic breakdown of government over the last 40 years.
While the GOP is certainly responsible for the 'drown it in the bathtub' psychopathy, the Dems played along with 'Neo-liberlaism' and their inability to take adequate action in crisis after crisis.
Not trying to do the 'both sides' thing but until the Dem's stop fetishizing means testing and worrying about helping the 'wrong people' and just promote programs that help everyone they are going to remain a big roadblock in clearing out the GOP rot.
At the end of the day both parties work for the same people, and the thing those people are worried about is the proles getting used to the idea that the government can help them.
To put the death number in a way you can understand it. in ww1 the number of American soldiers who died were 116.516 total.
Texas, can y’all please vote Ted Cruz out so I don’t have to see his face anymore? Jesus Pete. I am more disturbed each and every time.
The blogging community came all out to illustrate just how much mileage Republicans have given COVID-19. Their leader, Donald Trump and his followers are still in full stride to placate the U.S. into thinking, "It's only a virus." [Read more...](http://www.nastyjackbuzz.com/search?q=Republican+coronavirus+responsibility)
I knew it would show itself some day, but I never knew it would be this bad.
The GOP relishes the Blood Bath they bath their hand in. All are4 complicit in the "Negligent Homicide" of a "Half Million Americans"!
You mean the evil of tying every life saving service to for-profit business models?
I'm sure this will be a totally civil and logical discussion
I still have people tell me it’s no worse than the flu
Liberty may not be safe, but it beats the alternative
Remember when we thought it was wrong to politicize the virus?
The pandemic really put a spotlight on republicans bull fuckery. It is really showing us what type of people they truly are and they just keep stepping in their own dog shit.
Go check out the right wing web sites and news sources. They don’t care. It’s like there is no pandemic and nobody died. And the readers don’t want to know any better. You can’t fight that. They are lost victims of saturated propaganda and will never come back.
That’s 1 in every 650 Americans dead. More with long term health problems.
People in South Korea were able to figure this out. Same with Vietnam and New Zealand. And China. We could have held things down to a few thousand deaths by taking it seriously as fuck at the start.
If you’re one of the millions who lost somebody to COVID, stay mad. This is not something that just happened. It’s a thing that stupidity and negligence and cowardice and extra special American idiocy made happen.
Al Qaeda only killed 3K. Stupid America is the real enemy.
Americans love to see their countrymen die instead of wearing a mask. Fucking ridiculous people.
This is too true. I'm so happy Joe Biden immediately exterminated covid the moment Democrats took control of the government. I was so tired of wearing a mask.
I agree that any American life that is lost is tragic and should be treated as such. That being said, this narrative is ridiculous. All the GOP's fault. Okay look at numbers.
California(most strict policies in U.S.) - Population 39 million, cases 3.5 million(almost 10% of population, deaths, 50K(.13% of population)
Florida(zero Covid policies) - population 21 million, cases 1.8 million(almost 10% of population), 29K deaths(.13% of population)
It would appear that no matter the policies that wee adopted the end result is the same.
The president, a member of the GOP, set the tone for national policy. Plus, he gutted the pandemic response team months before COVID became an issue.
Furthermore, California needs federal dollars to deal with the crisis and who was in charge of that? The guy who willing said he'd withhold money from Democrat states. The failure ultimately circles back to the GOP. Furthermore, how Florida has managed COVID has little to do with anything DeSantis has done to help; Disney World cares more about COVID management than our governor by far.
Why trust the Democrats as well?
They’re not going to give anything progressive. Fuck Social Democracy (welfare capitalism) is too radical for Democrats. They are not going to move left anyway once the Democrats accept ex Republicans into the party cementing the party with more Blue Dogs.
Lets see if anything happens as a result of said exposure
It is very sad and tragic, but How many die of old age a year though? I’m not trying to be heartless just curious.
American ideology. It was a national effort.
No exactly fair, as the states that have done worst are Democratic governor ones. The president is not God-emperor. To put it another way, Hawaii and Alaska have done quite well in deaths per capita, and Trump was president in those states, too. So there are a lot of other factors.
If we want to be fair, we should look at things the federal government did have control over, like the warp-speed vaccine program which produced two excellent vaccines against all odds, in 9 months. If you're going to blame Trump and the GOP entirely for why the US had the death rate of the UK (why?) then give him credit for two novel vaccines developed long before anybody else had a good one. There's the first mRNA vaccines ever. They're the first vaccines that work for a coronavirus in animals or people. They prevent illness at 80 to 95%. Many scientists didn't think all this was possible at all, let alone in the time frame. This is a Moon shot that worked.
Barf. There's a far higher correlation to death and population density than there is political party.
Alaska and Hawaii? So one of them has a Dem governor? As does Oregon and Maine, two other top-ranked states?
If we want to be FAIR we can, in fact, look at things a President does.
Like closing borders to one nation after an illness is already global, claiming victory.
Lying about the nature and severity of the threat.
Lying about testing availability.
Failing to order enough vaccine.
Lying about the very nature and purpose of the national stockpile - then seizing state-purchased supplies after telling them it was up to them.
Politicizing aid based on whether a state voted for him.
Trying to steal an election while Americans died.
Not putting America first as US meat exports to China reached record highs while Americans paid more at the counter amidst reduced supply.
Next - misrepresenting mRNA vaccine development? Not cool. While these WERE developed in response to a specific threat - research and development of mRNA vaccines? Decades running, buckaroo. Next - one of those two? The first one? Developed without warp speed funding by an international panel of scientists in Germany.
"Many scientists didn't think all this was possible at all, let alone in the time frame. This is a Moon shot that worked."
That's an outright lie - as research and development of mRNA vaccines has been ongoing for decades. Probably would have helped if Donnie hadn't fucked the distribution plan so badly. God forbid we use the DPA - invoked hundreds of thousands of times yearly for guns and bombs - to make some vaccines to save lives, huh? Or make PPE.
Thank God Donnie was busy losing that trade war going into this.
