2000 dead in New York gave us the Patriot Act, DHS, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, plus the most damaging of all a second George W. Bush presidential term.
4 American dead in Benghazi had the Secretary of State at the time subject to countless investigations possibly tens of thousands of man hours.
500,000 American dead, a moment of silence.
This is why I don't buy into the idea that the last 4 years of hell is going to be on any swing voter's mind in 2-4 years. People will pay the ultimate price to appease conservative dogma, "home of the brave" be damned.
The lack of leadership cost Americans lives.
You can debate quantities all you want but the facts remain that denying science and saying COVID will just go away cost the lives American citizens.
Hundreds of thousands died needlessly.
Some accountability is necessary or we will just repeat this tragedy all over again the next time a pandemic occurs.
Especially so because there were no attempts at internal accountability.
The GOP knee jerk reaction of doubling down and spouting misinformation in case of any internal failures does not lend itself to organizational learning and improvement.
The GOP is rotten to the core but let's not leave out our weak infrastructure, shitty healthcare systems, and racist and misogynistic treatment structures and biases that make these outcomes so worse. These systemic issues continue to exist under democratic administrations as well. The GOP's an issue but America has deep systemic and cultural issues.
Iād add a failing educational system to that list. A failure in quality through high school and a gross failure in costs at colleges and universities. Coupled with health care, infrastructure and internal divisions...this will clearly not be the USās century like one might argue the last one was.
To be fair, greed is the rot of more than just GOP ideology. Let's not pretend they aren't motivated by their economic interest. Corruption is for profit, not for fun.

GOP ideology was corrupted by pursuit of profit; greed. The ends don't justify the means in politics or economics but that isn't what capitalism sells us.
There isn't anything inherently wrong with markets and private ownership of capital. They need to be checked by labor and by the government, certainly. But market mechanisms are the only halfway-efficient way to solve certain economic problems, and efficiency in production is what creates wealth. We just need to make sure that that wealth is equitably distributed.

Let's be real, the Dems are failing pretty hard on this one too.
There is a complete systematic breakdown of government over the last 40 years.
While the GOP is certainly responsible for the 'drown it in the bathtub' psychopathy, the Dems played along with 'Neo-liberlaism' and their inability to take adequate action in crisis after crisis.
Not trying to do the 'both sides' thing but until the Dem's stop fetishizing means testing and worrying about helping the 'wrong people' and just promote programs that help everyone they are going to remain a big roadblock in clearing out the GOP rot.
At the end of the day both parties work for the same people, and the thing those people are worried about is the proles getting used to the idea that the government can help them.

People in South Korea were able to figure this out. Same with Vietnam and New Zealand. And China. We could have held things down to a few thousand deaths by taking it seriously as fuck at the start.
If youāre one of the millions who lost somebody to COVID, stay mad. This is not something that just happened. Itās a thing that stupidity and negligence and cowardice and extra special American idiocy made happen.
Al Qaeda only killed 3K. Stupid America is the real enemy.
This is too true. I'm so happy Joe Biden immediately exterminated covid the moment Democrats took control of the government. I was so tired of wearing a mask.
I agree that any American life that is lost is tragic and should be treated as such. That being said, this narrative is ridiculous. All the GOP's fault. Okay look at numbers.
California(most strict policies in U.S.) - Population 39 million, cases 3.5 million(almost 10% of population, deaths, 50K(.13% of population)
Florida(zero Covid policies) - population 21 million, cases 1.8 million(almost 10% of population), 29K deaths(.13% of population)
It would appear that no matter the policies that wee adopted the end result is the same.
The president, a member of the GOP, set the tone for national policy. Plus, he gutted the pandemic response team months before COVID became an issue.
Furthermore, California needs federal dollars to deal with the crisis and who was in charge of that? The guy who willing said he'd withhold money from Democrat states. The failure ultimately circles back to the GOP. Furthermore, how Florida has managed COVID has little to do with anything DeSantis has done to help; Disney World cares more about COVID management than our governor by far.
Why trust the Democrats as well?
Theyāre not going to give anything progressive. Fuck Social Democracy (welfare capitalism) is too radical for Democrats. They are not going to move left anyway once the Democrats accept ex Republicans into the party cementing the party with more Blue Dogs.
No exactly fair, as the states that have done worst are Democratic governor ones. The president is not God-emperor. To put it another way, Hawaii and Alaska have done quite well in deaths per capita, and Trump was president in those states, too. So there are a lot of other factors.
If we want to be fair, we should look at things the federal government did have control over, like the warp-speed vaccine program which produced two excellent vaccines against all odds, in 9 months. If you're going to blame Trump and the GOP entirely for why the US had the death rate of the UK (why?) then give him credit for two novel vaccines developed long before anybody else had a good one. There's the first mRNA vaccines ever. They're the first vaccines that work for a coronavirus in animals or people. They prevent illness at 80 to 95%. Many scientists didn't think all this was possible at all, let alone in the time frame. This is a Moon shot that worked.
Barf. There's a far higher correlation to death and population density than there is political party.
Alaska and Hawaii? So one of them has a Dem governor? As does Oregon and Maine, two other top-ranked states?
If we want to be FAIR we can, in fact, look at things a President does.
Like closing borders to one nation after an illness is already global, claiming victory.
Lying about the nature and severity of the threat.
Lying about testing availability.
Failing to order enough vaccine.
Lying about the very nature and purpose of the national stockpile - then seizing state-purchased supplies after telling them it was up to them.
Politicizing aid based on whether a state voted for him.
Trying to steal an election while Americans died.
Not putting America first as US meat exports to China reached record highs while Americans paid more at the counter amidst reduced supply.
Next - misrepresenting mRNA vaccine development? Not cool. While these WERE developed in response to a specific threat - research and development of mRNA vaccines? Decades running, buckaroo. Next - one of those two? The first one? Developed without warp speed funding by an international panel of scientists in Germany.
"Many scientists didn't think all this was possible at all, let alone in the time frame. This is a Moon shot that worked."
That's an outright lie - as research and development of mRNA vaccines has been ongoing for decades. Probably would have helped if Donnie hadn't fucked the distribution plan so badly. God forbid we use the DPA - invoked hundreds of thousands of times yearly for guns and bombs - to make some vaccines to save lives, huh? Or make PPE.

I agree that any American life that is lost is tragic and should be treated as such. That being said, this narrative is ridiculous. All the GOP's fault. Okay look at numbers. California(most strict policies in U.S.) - Population 39 million, cases 3.5 million(almost 10% of population, deaths, 50K(.13% of population) Florida(zero Covid policies) - population 21 million, cases 1.8 million(almost 10% of population), 29K deaths(.13% of population) It would appear that no matter the policies that wee adopted the end result is the same.
Lets see if anything happens as a result of said exposure
It is very sad and tragic, but How many die of old age a year though? Iām not trying to be heartless just curious.
American ideology. It was a national effort.

Thank God Donnie was busy losing that trade war going into this.
