2000 dead in New York gave us the Patriot Act, DHS, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, plus the most damaging of all a second George W. Bush presidential term. 4 American dead in Benghazi had the Secretary of State at the time subject to countless investigations possibly tens of thousands of man hours. 500,000 American dead, a moment of silence.

The lack of leadership cost Americans lives. You can debate quantities all you want but the facts remain that denying science and saying COVID will just go away cost the lives American citizens. Hundreds of thousands died needlessly. Some accountability is necessary or we will just repeat this tragedy all over again the next time a pandemic occurs.

The GOP is rotten to the core but let's not leave out our weak infrastructure, shitty healthcare systems, and racist and misogynistic treatment structures and biases that make these outcomes so worse. These systemic issues continue to exist under democratic administrations as well. The GOP's an issue but America has deep systemic and cultural issues.

To be fair, greed is the rot of more than just GOP ideology. Let's not pretend they aren't motivated by their economic interest. Corruption is for profit, not for fun. ​ GOP ideology was corrupted by pursuit of profit; greed. The ends don't justify the means in politics or economics but that isn't what capitalism sells us.

Can you imagine if Trump had actually worn a mask and told his dumb ass supporters to do it? They listened to him wanting to take the Capitol, he could have gotten them to wear masks.

Sort of shows that "pro life" is not really a concern - keeping women subservient seems to be what the GQP really cares about.

The Democrats suck in their response and are reactive in operation. The Republican are obstructionist- white supremacist- science denying- fake christians that will denying objectively prove able information for the sake of “patriotism” - in my 45 years on the planet, the selling out to trump is by far the low point. It’s not merely policy, it is the erosion and perversion of the core civic principles we were taught about America in public school.

Is it bad that I'm unsurprised that something like COVID can do this much damage? Diseases like the bubonic plague killed at minimum 75mil people during the late medieval times. An avoidable disaster but here we are, deaths attributed by the incompetence of the GQP.

They've already forgotten all about Herman Cain, Ron Wright, Luke Letlow, and probably a host of local reps who've died from Covid like NH House Speaker Dick Finch. They might as well have never existed for how much the GQP cared about their deaths.

Remember when they spent months trying to imply that wearing a mask was somehow akin to being a communist? I mean, fucking hell.

Never forget that the GOP's refusal to take the pandemic seriously resulted in more American deaths than the combined military might of the Axis powers during World War II. Yet they're the ones who scream incessantly about being "patriots." 🤔

Death and illness are inconsequential to the Republicans unless they can make money off of it. The fact is, as a whole it is a party of sociopaths who have no real interest in governing nor moving the country forward, only lining their own pockets. It’s a “hoax.” Just eat disinfectant, etc. Now the COVID-19 death toll is approaching the Spanish Flu death toll of 675,000 Americans. It took 2 years for the Spanish Flu to reach 675,000. Took one year for COVID-19 to kill 512,590 Americans.

Let's be real, the Dems are failing pretty hard on this one too. There is a complete systematic breakdown of government over the last 40 years. I agree that any American life that is lost is tragic and should be treated as such. That being said, this narrative is ridiculous. All the GOP's fault. Okay look at numbers. California(most strict policies in U.S.) - Population 39 million, cases 3.5 million(almost 10% of population, deaths, 50K(.13% of population) Florida(zero Covid policies) - population 21 million, cases 1.8 million(almost 10% of population), 29K deaths(.13% of population) It would appear that no matter the policies that wee adopted the end result is the same.

Why trust the Democrats as well? They’re not going to give anything progressive. Fuck Social Democracy (welfare capitalism) is too radical for Democrats. They are not going to move left anyway once the Democrats accept ex Republicans into the party cementing the party with more Blue Dogs.

No exactly fair, as the states that have done worst are Democratic governor ones. The president is not God-emperor. To put it another way, Hawaii and Alaska have done quite well in deaths per capita, and Trump was president in those states, too. So there are a lot of other factors. If we want to be fair, we should look at things the federal government did have control over, like the warp-speed vaccine program which produced two excellent vaccines against all odds, in 9 months. If you're going to blame Trump and the GOP entirely for why the US had the death rate of the UK (why?) then give him credit for two novel vaccines developed long before anybody else had a good one. There's the first mRNA vaccines ever. They're the first vaccines that work for a coronavirus in animals or people. They prevent illness at 80 to 95%. Many scientists didn't think all this was possible at all, let alone in the time frame. This is a Moon shot that worked.
