The unvaccinated player reactions are coming out fast and furious. DeAndre Hopkins just tweeted and then deleted this:
>Never thought I would say this, But being put in a position to hurt my team because I don’t want to partake in the vaccine is making me question my future in the @Nfl
Everbody wants to be a victim nowadays, but it’s pretty straightforward… if Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes get Covid right before the Super Bowl (assuming they’re both not vaccinated already and make it again) and they miss it, does that hurt their teams - obviously. Is there something that can prevent that from happening/hurting their team - yes. These players spend tens of thousand on massages, spas, hyperbaric whatevers to recover and be their for their team… but questioning their commitment after declining the vaccine is somehow wrong? Ok…
I wonder if Cole Beasley is gonna go on another rant now
You know what? Let me kick down a little thing to you that our Founding Fathers kicked down to me. It goes, "Don't. Tread. On me," and right now, you guys are TREADING ALL OVER ME.
-Cole Beasley, probably
I love how these players will take supplements they found in a garage in Mexico or spray themselves down with deer antler spray to stay healthy, but won’t take a vaccine to stay on the field. Michael Irving was right. If you don’t get the vaccine, you don’t want to win.
They play a game that cripples people and use risk as a reason to not get a shot. It's absurd.
For those already asking about vaccinated players who may contract COVID:
“If a game is cancelled/postponed because a club cannot play due to a Covid spike among or resulting from its non-vaccinated players/staff, then the burden of the cancellation or delay will fall on the club experiencing the Covid infection," the memo states. "We will seek to minimize the burden on the opposing club or clubs. If a club cannot play due to a Covid spike in vaccinated individuals, we will attempt to minimize the competitive and economic burden on both participating teams."
Essentially, a team forfeiting due to COVID among unvaccinated staff or players are going to be put through the ringer - losing the game, paying costs to the other team and NFL, and subject to further fines or discipline.
If I were an owner with the wealthy they have I would just make a policy that if an opponent forfeits on us and you can prove your vaccination to me ill cut you your game check in full. You weren't a risk for me.
The owners now risk losing money on unvaccinated players.
Good. They got vaccinations to attend grade school, they need to quit being pussy's and get the damn vaccine ffs.
Vaccines like smallpox and tetanus have been around forever and have been proven safe. The COVID vaccine isn’t approved by the FDA yet and no long term trials have been completed yet.
It’s a bad analogy to try and compare your childhood vaccinations to a brand new vaccine.
And telling people to “quit being pussies and get the damn vaccine ffs” is irresponsible. What if you have a medical condition that prevents you from getting vaccinated?
This authoritarian push for everyone to get vaccinated is really troubling, and people/companies need to cool the F down and respect the decisions of others.
It's just a microcosm of American society and ignorance. I'm a Cowboys fan and half the team is refusing the vaccine.
So true. It really is microcosm of American society.
It reminds me of how so many professional athletes go broke and bankrupt and that’s just the microcosm of the entire American society.
Good and add staff to that too!
Here are your newest Super Bowl 2022 champions, the Atlanta Falcons!
I’m an Eagles fan but I just googled who was the smartest NFL team and it said the falcons. 🤷🏼♀️
Selfish players are gonna cost their teams BIG TIME
Broncos fans know.
What about outbreaks of vaccinated players? Does the team still forfeit?
What about covid outbreaks among vaccinated players? What happens then?
Vaccinated individuals tend to have mild cases.
I imagine they want to avoid some of the issues from last year and say "play if you are asymptomatic". But in order to be comfortable taking that kind of risk you need to be relatively certain that nobody will get seriously ill.
In practice vaccinations offer pretty good odds that nobody will die. So I think that is what they want to do.
I find it hard to believe, imagine thinking the NFL or any business passing up merchandise and ticket sales.
Who knows what broadcast contracts include, it could cost them ad revenue as well.
Nfl teams will cut unvaccinated players over this
If I'm a team owner and one of my players costs us a game, unless that guy is a Pro Bowler, I'm cutting him immediately.
Haha how brave of you
I like the idea
This is the most even handed way to handle this.
What about out breaks with vaccinated players?
Or, how about they mandate vaccinations, and suspend any players or coaches that refuse?
Probably can't do that under the CBA.
These aren't normal employee-employer relationships where the employer can substantially change the terms at will and the other party can either agree or find other work. The NFL is a monopoly and the is no other source of employment in the industry.
The only way to avoid being forcibly broken up under anti-trust law is to have a CBA and agreement of the employee union.
Good. These anti-vaxx players are morons.
I'm ok with it as long as the NFL would be responsible if there were any adverse reactions to the vaccine. Fair is fair right
It’s like the NFL is trying to lose fans
Well who cares if they didn’t get the vaccine they’re only gonna give it to players who also didn’t get the vaccine who also don’t give a damn if they get it so what’s the problem here?
Holy shit I can’t believe people are still using this tired and thoroughly countered argument. But here we go again:
Vaccination is not 100% effective, so breakthrough cases still happen. Vaccines greatly reduce the chances of infection, transmission, and severity of symptoms. This, by the way, is not unique to the COVID vaccine; no vaccine can be truly 100% effective.
Some people cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons. They benefit from others around them being vaccinated, so that it is much likely that a close contact of theirs is carrying or spreading the virus.
The more opportunities a virus has to spread, the greater the chance of the virus mutating into another variant. We’ve all been hearing about the delta variant, and recently the lambda variant, which seem to be much more virulent. These arise when a virus goes unchecked, and is allowed to propagate through a large population. High levels of vaccination help stop that spread, and give the virus fewer opportunities to mutate.
I’m over the NFL, probably won’t watch another game ever. Roger Goodell has ruined it. Not because of this, just in general.
Such an elegant opinion, thank you
Will be another way for the NFL powers that be to decide which teams are successful. You'll see convenient timing or key players being held out or games cancelled.
You'd lose that bet. 73.8% of the league has had at least one shot
Ya know… can’t help but feel that this entire sub in an NFL shill.
Shill for what?
We know COVID vaccines work. That is not up for debate.
You're not anti-vax but you're asking what happens if vaccines don't work and there's an outbreak among a fully vaccinated team? In theory, if there's some variant that were to make vaccines so much less effective that that happens then the NFL would have to rethink how to handle things.
