TF2 is nearly for everyone It can be stupid, silly, childish, serious, competitive, relaxing, you can be a team or a lone wolf, they both work, sometimes you find yourself spawncamping, sometimes the enemy has established a self sustaining country at your spawn, sometimes it's a tickly conga party, sometimes it's medic hell, sometimes it's engineer's hell, sometimes you die by a pixel 5 miles away, sometimes it's mario kart, sometimes the weather is rainy with a chance of shovel, every match is a different randomly generated experience. TF2 is a game where it's both cheerfully encouraging you to get better, and actively encourages in-game online bullying (see BarbeQueQ) by better players, who are both a bully and a mentor for the newly initiated.

Ultimately, it doesn't really matter why as long as everyone is having fun killing each other
or having fun with the other team (friendlies)
I sometimes cannot tell if profiles are serious in this game or if they’re made to piss people off. Like, is Lucario_Pumpkin really listing their favorite flavors of icecream aside an ascii recreation of their fursona? Do people like this exist? The world may never know.

It’s a fun, free game that has a massive community as a result. Parts of the community *are* accepting. It’s just not the entire thing, and not the only reason weebs and furries stick around. With a playerbase as massive as tf2’s, having weebs and furries is inevitable, regardless of other factors. None of the posts have been *wrong*, it’s just a complex thing that doesn’t have a single cause

As a former weeb (I used to call myself that but now I despise the term, I just like anime and manga) I think that all of these are correct. Of course not *all* if the community is accepting but a good chunk of it is pretty chill and I'm glad I joined when I did.

I love op’s logic. Elegantly simple. Why does x group play the game? Because it’s a fun game, nothing more.
The community as a whole definitely isn’t accepting, but everyone deals with it because not only is the community so large you will find the percentage that actually is accepting and be able to *mostly* forget about the ones that aren’t, but the gameplay is so fun and holds up so well that people keep coming and probably always will

Combination of the fandom having some issues (which, imo, isnt really a valid reason to hate the entirety of such a large fandom), and the fact that hating furries is pretty much a meme online that stretches back to the mid 2000s.
Honestly, a good chunk of it tends to just be bullying people for being different. The fandom attracts a lot of people that are considered outcasts by society - neurodivergent folks, minority groups, etc - so people see them as easy targets.

Tf2 becoming a free game was probably one of the best things that it did to ensure its survival. I do feel like TF2's community may be over-accepting in some regards and that can easily apply to both ends of the spectrum. But at the end of the day a open community is very important as it is what keeps it alive. Dumbasses and toxic players are such a small percentage of players you will early see them so just get over it.

People who are not weebs assume all weebs have the urge to yell a random Japanese word every 6 seconds and people who aren't furries assume all furries are zoophiles.
That is only true for a small portion of these communities. Most weebs and furries are just perfectly regular people who have the same interests.
Because these minorities of people stand out more, they get more attention from people who aren't part of their community which then ends up in them making assumptions over an entire community based off of a very small portion of it.

As a gamer/weeb. This is true I’ve been a gamer before I became a weeb, playing video games has helped me mentally and still does. Anime/Anime styled shows help too. Both combined is like paradise for me. And a game like TF2, is paradise to me.

Because it’s an enjoyable game that is also free-the community is a mixed bag but there’s always some nice servers with nice people that can make the game a fun welcoming place while also being full of racist pricks

I've called out people running furry pfp and saying stuff like uwu in chat. I asked why a person would even want to associate publicly that they were in a group sexually attracted to animals. The person claimed they were confused but they were very hesitant to answer any questions and kept trying to turn it into an argument when I wanted a discussion. So the real reason they play these games is they don't consider it a factor when playing video games. They make their profile look how they think is cool. Then they play tf2 see people make binds and realize it's not rocket science to set up. For weeks I get it's weird but I don't personally care even a little what shows the other people watch and for the most part people that acting weeby are usually memeing around being "funny" but the furrys are real but if you put solid pressure on them they will crack. Not in a harassment way just if you keep asking as respectful as you can you might here it's a root of personal problems. Tf2 is fun and free. A perfect distraction.
