Do people really think that the dislike for the chapter is solely because the Father wasn't Eren?
Yes, i've seen some comments like that
Hot take: armin was done dirtier than eren. The dude always was all about talking things out and said he accepted and even thanked eren for the rumbling? What?
he thanked Eren for sacrificing himself for them but still called the Rumbling an error
I liked the part where Levi sees his fallen comrades. I thought that was cool, it gave the feeling of closure.
Personally I think Levi should have died, but I don't have any problems with his ending
I don't ship EH, was neutral about the father theories, am not a Yeagerist or an Eren supporter, and thought AnR would be bad writing.
I still heavily dislike this ending.
I believed in the farmer-kun theory because it was the most obvious, though the least interesting. This chapter still feels like a slap in the face.
Bro people be thinking that EH not being Canon was the only reason for the meltdown. Like I'm sad I didn't get my pairing but there were still bigger problems that I had with this chapter. Plotholes and character assasinations
The most annoying thing is that irritating speaking about "hidden meaning" which is almost always just an attempt to justify bad writing.
There was no hidden meaning ... the meaning was pretty clear. It’s called subtext.
Yams just really wanted to play splatoon 😔
He really wanted to bathe in his onsen
I agree that it's poorly written but I have seen people here throwing tantrums about how their headcannons didn't come true and how it wasn't the ending they wanted
What's wrong with that, exactly?
So far predictions people made did come true. People were satisfied if it wasn't exactly that even, because it was still logical.
Now people are confused because nothing fucking makes sense but people defend it because "this is the message Isayama wants to make" lol.
/r/titanfolk now knows what it's like to be a TLoU fan who hates TLoU2.
same thing happened early on with GoT. Remember how crowds cheered when Arya killed the NK?
I've seen less comments from AnR cultists (or any theory fans really) getting upset by the ending than people calling them out. I understand that some people liked the ending, good for them fr, but you can't force that opinion down others' throat. Just because AoT is huge and has always been beloved by many doesn't mean it's not deserving of actual criticism.
Everyone is just going strawman on the extremes of both sides to prove their point.
But for me yes the ending could've been a lot better and many of the points of ending-bad people are valid, especially with eren's motivations and ideologies being inconsistent in the end and the whole sweep ymir under the rug. But aside from that, it was satisfying enough for me. Everyone I care about got their decent send-offs and the theme of "it's always war" is still there.
>got their decent send-offs
\>Reiner sniffin a fucking letter
Yeah... what a decent send off to his arc...
Personally I’m think the actual story of the chapter was great. It was the execution that’s not that good.
On this sub at least, this seems opposite to what is actually happening. The entire front page is people dunking on 139
Am I going insane? All of the front page is people taking a shit on the ending, people defending it are the small mironity.
“i kind of liked the ending. Eren ending up as a tragic and selfish character was a really interesting direction and I enjoyed the fact that many of the loose ends of the rumbling arc were tied up-“
“PLOT HOLES, CHARACTER ASSASSINATION. THIS IS PURE GARBAGE, HOW CAN ANYONE LIKE THIS. EREN IS AN INCEL. THE TIME TRAVEL THING SMAKES NO SENSE”
It goes the other way too.
Is your last sentence supposed to be a jab? Because the time travel in this series really doesn't make any lick of sense. I've hated it when it was revealed that Eren actually influenced his father, and I hate it even more after this chapter.
Remember guys: To this day, there are people who defends the GoT ending.
Nothing but Apologism
All my headcanon came true : Eren is a slave to the Titan memories and his own omniscience . Eren actually love Mikasa . We get similar Lelouch ending . It’s a tragedy bittersweet ending .
and I still fucking hate it . Precisely I understand what Yams was going for with Ymir that I also fucking hate it .
I really like that Eren didn’t solve all their problems and bring peace . I also really like that he’s a simp for Mikasa. That was exactly my headcannon . I also like that he looked so pathetic in front of Armin . IMO that is the best part of the ending . So much nuance and personality in his character now .
I fucking hate it that the memories of titans made him insane . You could describe the insanity of Titans omniscience without calling Eren insane . Do you know how much that devalue everything he’s done now that its thrown in there ? So now we’re not even sure that the resolution and conviction he had in the rumbling amounted to anything . Was it really possible that mass genocide was committed off of someone’s unstable psyche ? Well it certainly is possible now that the detail that he’s insane is thrown in there . What about all that stuff he said and did in Paths ? Was that a facade ? Was that insanity ?
This subreddit has become so meta now my god. We’re now anti circlejerking the anti circlejerk to the original circlejerk.
People really do be hitting the copium too hard, final chapter is dissapointing af
Does anyone else LOVE the chapter? I don’t understand why people have to voice their negative opinion? Only I am allowed to talk about my positive opinion
No, I was ok for the most with the ending too.
As someone who predicted an ending very much like this, and who saw EH and AnR as the steaming pile of dung it is, I'd say it is a good ending, but needed more exposition, in regards to Ymir, the "Worm", Paths and whatever happened to Yelena. 60 pages would have done the trick.
That being said, Eren's breakdown is something truly amazing, and I mean that unironically. It wasn't him just talking, it was him laying his inner thoughts bare to his best friend. People forget Eren is a pretty average teenager, not some cold, one in a billion, mastermind.
Peace was left to be made and achieved, and isn't something magically granted, adding further realism to it.
Criticism is great, but lets face it, most of the vocal "critics" seem to be pro-AnR, and are not seeing the immense character assassination that is AnR Eren.
Eren killing his mother isn't a character assassination but killing his friends is, lol ok
Same thing happened on /r/gameofthrones for a few weeks after the finale. Eventually they came around, but they have the same vibe that i get from /r/shingekinokyojin. Not sure how to explain it, but they're just so desperate to like the ending. I can't stand toxic positivity like that
As opposed to the overwhelming toxic negativity here?
I would've rather had the chapter open with Historia telling Eren "fuck you, I'm gonna have a kid because I want to and I want no part of your disgusting Rumbling. Now get out of my face before I tell everyone about your sorry ass plan." As a continuation of their conversation in 130, and then end with Eren getting kicked by every Alliance member before Jean suffocates him with his horsecock and then it's revealed the Rumbling was too slow and he only killed like a few thousand people than what we got.
This meme could also be flipped around with “I thought the ending wasn’t perfect but I’m satisfied with it” and “CUCKSAYAMA RUINED THE WHOLE THING, 11 YEARS DOWN THE SHITTER”
It’s all so tiresome
Honestly I think the eren breakdown could have been amazing and would have made me love him even more as a character. Something similar to 131 where he cracks a little and shows his real human side. But just how poorly it was done, and the amount of plot holes the chapter left was insulting.
Personally I don’t hate the chapter, but I don’t like it. I really wish Yams got off his symbolic high horse of ending it on a certain number from the beginning as having at least 2 more chapters would’ve made this ending so much more smoother. The ending made sense because tbh a Lelouch type ending was pretty obvious for years now IMO, but you can’t just jam Eren’s important POV and a timeskip epilogue into one chapter.. that’s really weak writing.
Either way though I love this series and thankful for the story.
It's funny, because I see the meme completely opposite lol
from my observations on this sub the loud bird should be people hating the chapter lmfao
I don't like it personally because it's a rushed ending, things were left unexplained/explained vaguely and it introduced plot holes.
Should have replaced the crow with Eren bird from the final 2 pages xD
r/Shingekinokyojin in a nutshell.
I don't necessarily disagree that the chapter could have been better written, but what plotholes are you talking about? Because I can't think of none? Most "plotholes" I've seen are people assuming that Eren could change the past (which he can't and the manga never says he can) or people assuming that Eren is a really smart badass when he was an emotional idiot for most of the manga.
Bro, just saying "Ymir has stockholm syndrome" isnt some deep metacommentary. Its in fact, incredibly wrong and hurtful. Stockholm syndrome for one, is incredibly rare among hostage victimes and is a controversial "syndrome" even in the academic literature. Childhood sexual trauma is known to develop into attention seeking/love behaviora towards those with authority later in life in some cases. Ymir loving the dude that enslaved her, cut off her tongue, sexually abused her, and tortured her in numerous other ways for 2000 years even after the dude died is so unimaginably unrealistic it can really only be chalked up to the authors' own fucked up views on love and women. I completely understand all the "points" people make about the "good" in ch 139. Its just all points I vehemently disagree with, believe are unsubstantiated by both the in-story canon and reality, and find gross. I believe the fan theories are better than 139. Thats not me loving the fan theories. Thats my absolute disappointment with 139. Just wanted to say this since I see this point in particular being parrotted as some kind of great thing abt 139.
Bruh I had no headcannon, I was ready foe anything
Or so I thought, I wasnt Ready for Eren killing Carla, wtf
Finally someone said it. My god.
Are you even part of this sub? Its all over the place
Man all these people bending overbackwards to accept this ending is so depressing
"Its been always like this" "X character was always like this"
Bro they weren't stop lying to yourselves, this chapter was the shit end to an already heavily questioned Arc and a bad ending to a greater story
I suppose you mean you couldn't care less.
I literally got on Twitter today “You don’t like the ending because you didn’t understand Eren as a character”.
Excuse you I read the same manga y’all did and I came to the conclusion that it ended like crap lmao There were so many inconsistencies and random things added at the end there that I’m just puzzled how people can excuse it as a perfect coherent ending
So OC, let's talk about this civilly, what did you dislike about the final chapter and how do you think it could have been improved?
The main things I dislike about the chapter are
1. Eren and Reiner. People say that Eren during the Marley arc and War For Paradis arc was just putting up a front, and that Eren in this chapter is the "real" Eren. I just can't see it that way. The only time I feel like Eren did put up a front was during his conversation with Mikasa and Armin. And it also turns out that Eren basically caused his mother's death. Reiner... why did he have to become a sniffing weirdo, he should have just died while fighting Eren
2. Ymir being "in love" with King Fritz. I know that stockholm syndrome is a thing, but it just doesn't sit right with me.
3. The Eldians being detitanized. My main problem with this is how quickly they became humans again. If there were a few chapters in between the Eldians transforming and turning back into humans I wouldn't be as bothered by it.
4. Historia's pregnancy. What was the whole point of it? I know that it kept her from getting fed to Zeke, but I feel like it just wasted Historia's character. Also the farmer could have atleast be given a name.
5. Worm-kun. Where did it go? I assume that it disappeared when the ability for Eldians to become titans was removed, and if that's the case there should have been a panel of it disintegrating or something.
You forgot to add how these cucksuckers don’t elaborate on why it’s deep
You mean when there's countless posts and comments on this sub that do, but they're downvoted into obscurity? Heck, it's all there if you wanna see it. From both sides.
>I really liked this cha...
>THIS CHAPTER WAS GARBAGE
>THIS ISNT THE EREN THAT WE KNOW
>EREN WOULD NEVER BE A SLAVE, YMIR WOULD NEVER LOVE HER ABUSER, THE MARLEYANS WOULD NEVER FORGIVE THE ELDIANS FOR THE RUMBLING
What happened to the centipede? Did I skip over that?
You see, I'm correct because I made a meme where I'm the calm bird and you're the screaming one.
Bro I just enjoyed it
It’s literally the opposite...
Can you not act like this subreddit hasn't had a field day shitting on this chapter?
There are some truly good parts of this ending, but they are *so poorly executed* it doesn't matter, and the rest is more or less flaming dogshit.
The blind loyal fans in fb are very defensive right now. Any posts showing their disappointment of the ending will be filled with defensive comments like these:
"you're just angry because it didn't end the way you wanted"
"You just didn't understand the manga/story"
"There were no plot holes, everything was answered"
If you so much as comment a hint of dissatisfaction (I for one just placed a laughing emoji) towards the ending they will reply and defend it lol it's hilarious.
Check the front page, you are the loud bird my friend.
It’s kinda funny because the haters are the ones screaming loudly and overreacting right now. This is projection on the highest level.
"ThE eNdiNg iS gOoD anD DeEp yOu ArE jUst A hAteR"
Like, heck, I'm not even a Yaegerist and I hate it. People just can't stand someone else having a different opinion.
Pretty sure the bigger, louder bird is supposed to represent the CH139 dislikers/haters.
The CH139 appreciators are almost non-existent. I mean, they're there on Isayama thank-you topics, but just neutral stances and emotions.
I'm noticing people saying "I'm noticing people calling this ending shit cuz EH not canon" but that really isn't the case. More often than not I'm seeing people shit on the ending because of eren being absolutely fucking cringe with mikasa, armin thanking eren for the rumbling and the ymir being in love with fritz king "subplot"
Tl;dr: EH not being Canon isn't the only reason this ending sucks ass
While I've had my fun fan theorizing with the rest of the community, I would have been more than willing to be surprised by the actual outcome... if the ending was one I could properly stomach. I'm completely fine with an ending that does not match what I was expecting. I will always champion writers being able to do what they want with their work, whether they listen to fans or not. However, much like what I told my friends and others at the release of Mass Effect 3, just because you can write whatever you want does not make you immune to criticism or negative feedback. And much like the ending to Mass Effect 3 (and even to this day) people still make the argument that not liking that or this ending is the equivalent of having the Mark of Cain for some people. It got so bad with ME3 that I saw one comment on a message board advocating sterilization and extermination of people they deemed "too stupid" to understand how brilliant the ending was. This gag comic further illustrates how difficult it can be to love something but, at the end of the day, as a fan you have to go with how you interpret the quality of a work, not the whims of others. I don't mind others liking the ending, but I can't in my heart of hearts look anyone in the eyes with a straight face and say that the ending was worth it for me. I'm still holding out hope that maybe I'm just overreacting. I've been reading and re-reading the final panels a few times over just to see if I'm in the wrong for disliking it so vehemently, but alas, I fear I will have to stick with my gut.
Personally I don’t care that my head cannon didn’t become true I’m just mad that literally every head cannon that Ive heard has had a better ending then what we got
I've said it before, I'll say it again.
The ending, as an ending, was mediocre. The cycle of hatred continues, but maybe there is the chance for peace. Not much changes, it's a tragic ending with a bit of hope for a better one. As an ending, 6/10.
However, the chapter was shit. Inexcusably shit. Seriously? Incel Eren? Out of nowhere? "Hmm yes i want to fuck my step sister who is completely down to fuck. I will now commit genocide". Ymir x Fritz? What the fuck? The Worm, just gone? Several characters never experiencing any consequences whatsoever? Levi and- ok yeah the Levi scene was pretty damn good, I'll let that one slide. Mikasa not moving on and just sitting at Eren's grave for the rest of her life? Seriously Yams? This is the best you could think of? Eren killing his own mother so that he would have a reason to be angry? Eren simply accepting his fate? That is not Eren. Eren wouldnt just roll over and accept it. Remember Ramzi? He knows he will end up killing Ramzi but he still saves him from the merchants anyway because its his nature. He fights, he doesn't give up, even when its hopeless. Not to mention that so many deaths all have now gone to waste.
Inside of you there are two Erens. Both abandon all their friends, responsibilities, ideals and betrays their core values because they want to bang Mikasa (who was down to fuck this whole time).
But at least Aaron Yoghurt didn't die a virgin.
