Allans Beach is in Portobello, a suburb of the city of Dunedin, so you’re correct that this is Dunedin :). The city limits are much more extensive than you think!

Maybe try r/Bushcraft or the like? Bushcrafters may have some insight into heavier/cheaper/more durable shelter options that aren’t necessarily designed with weight and packability like with backpacking gear. Once you decide on the gear you want to provide, will there be a way to donate money/products to your agency? Edit: trying to link the subreddit

Dang, this was super helpful, thank you! Great perspective on my own Fearful Avoidant guy, and other experiences with another Anxious guy I dated and how my own brand of nonreactive autistic affection could trigger someone with an anxious attachment style. PS I’m sorry for your heartbreak over Mr. Fearful Avoidant. It fucking sucks and I hope you’ve found some equilibrium after the fact

Ok for one your username is amazing. But seriously, I went through some similar biz earlier this year. I got divorced a few years ago and, for the first time since my marriage shat itself, I felt real comfortable and connected with someone. I’m autistic and struggle to connect and feel at ease with new people, but this felt good. He had some serious trauma around family and past relationships, and both he and I weren’t aware of how much that would affect him. Long story short, his messiness made him scared shitless that someone was making him happy. Gaslit me into thinking I’d misread his words and actions toward me, then back-pedalled on the gaslighting and admitted he was terrified that I would “find out how broken [he] is and learn to hate [him]” so he pushed me away HARD It took me months of meditation and cognitive therapy to feel comfortable with myself and my ability to make connections/judgements on human behaviour again. TL;DR don’t be like me, you deserve connections that aren’t messy, you will find other people who you can care for without all the baggage.

If you want another set of eyes, you could take out your personal information and send it to this random Redditor, maybe I can help

Does your advisor have time to talk you through their approach to reviewing? Are you comfortable in your understanding of the manuscript topic? Excuse the formatting (on mobile), but here are a few suggestions from an early career scientist who’s recently started reviewing: -Start by reading through the manuscript to see if the “story” makes sense. Do you feel like you’re missing “pages” or that the story has changed unexpectedly along the way? If there are gaps in the narrative, is it because you don’t understand the manuscript, or because the author has omitted something? -If parts of the manuscript are based on another article (e.g. they used a method from another published piece), read through those related pieces to see if there are any major differences in use or meaning. -Don’t be afraid to be the annoying reviewer. Ask questions, request clarity on a point, why the author did what they did. It’s their job to be clear and concise. If your questions is irrelevant within the context of the manuscript, the author can note that to the editor and move on. -Remember, this is volunteer work. You’re not getting fired if you miss something, and there are most likely two other reviewers and an editor working on the same manuscript. Do your best, be thorough, but you’re working alongside peers. Hope that helps!

Briefly dated this guy who'd dremel me in spots with basically (thankfully) no sensation. After (diplomatically) vocalizing multiple times that he was way jabby and lightyears away from anything with feeling, I grabbed him and tried to guide me to my clit. He stiffly resisted and said "I don't where you're trying to direct me to". He was 35.

Thank you for your interest in my decisions, but my country of residence had maintained a holding pattern of noninvolvement until I had departed, as we are very isolated. There had been no indication of change, and the political situation changed dramatically within a very short period of time, and did not coincide with rules and regulations for international travel for animals. If anyone is interested, international pet relocaters advise travel restrictions on pets should lift in the next few months. Since departing my country of residence, the institutions I am involved with have since suggested we return to the country in which we hold citizenship, and many people residing internationally are being mandated to come homein very short time frame, considering the current global situation. Beyond that, the circumstances under which I chose to travel go far beyond a holiday whim, as is the case for many these days. Many people are being faced with the decision to be isolated in foreign countries to face this stressful situation alone, possibly without an income, or return home to be with loved ones, receive and give support, and to be safer and healthier. This is a complicated time without easy answers, and I wish all the luck in the world to those faced with these hard questions.

He's pretty much at doggy summer camp. No rules, plenty of friends, and heaps to explore. But he's a special needs pup (epilepsy and digestive issues) and he's helped me through some very tough times, so I miss him every day and I can't wait to get him home. I'm not in a place to foster at the moment, but when the animal shelters reopen, you bet your ass I'll be there loving the shit out of the good boys and girls I can be there for.

I dated a guy very briefly who snapped an iPhone (WITH AN ALUMINIUM BODY) in half because it "wouldn't do what he wanted". My response was "are you going to break me if I don't do what you say?". He couldn't understand why, at 33, this wasn't OK. The same "it's my money" argument. Needless to say, I called it shortly after.

Full story: I'm finishing my PhD overseas. Since starting my program, my partner asked for a divorce and left me to manage the debt from us moving country and a dog with a number of medical conditions. I do my best, and work multiple contracts with the university to cover my extra expenses. This means I have little "play money" for luxuries (e.g. Travel) My mom has had a rough few years as well. My relationship failing on the other side of the world, her watching me pick up the pieces, alone... She felt helpless. Shortly after, her mother died (pancreatic cancer). Again, distance made it very hard to support her through that. Lately, she has had some health issues of her own. In the face of these events, and hitting the big Six-Oh, she has been very focused on her mortality and life priorities. Historically, my sibs (25M and 27F) and I (28F) don't have a good relationship. We had messy childhoods and scattered to the wind as soon as possible. Only now are we rediscovering each other. Since my moving country, and seeing the hard time I've had, they have both tried to be there for me in their own way. And I am so grateful. I had planned to go home later this year, but time/money/workload constraints prevented that. I didn't expect this gift. I'd never dream to ask for help coming home. But here we are and I couldn't be happier.

How do you choose places to go with your dog in NZ? There are limited longer DoC tracks approved for dogs in some places. Do you just go for hunting/conservation/backcountry areas? Ignore the rules and just go wherever you want? This looks like a beautiful spot; I'll be adding it to my list

THIS, THANK YOU. I will have a BS, MS, PhD (all in aquatic/marine science), and 7 years US federal experience in my field before I'm 30. Don't put your dream in the backseat. I'm not "lucky", I've found a way to make the system work for me. I'll say to anyone trying to get into US federal work, the hiring system is a game in itself to be played. And yes, there are lots of candidates applying, some with more skill and experience than you, but it's all about selling yourself in ways that are relevant to the person hiring. But it's possible and, while you may be stuck working seasonal or term work and getting paid less than you think you're worth, sitting on a boat all day is a helluva lot better than studying business any day.

Not about the GoRuck, but have you looked at Exped? I have an [Exped Cascade](http://www.exped.com/usa/en/product-category/backpacks/cascade-25-black) that I can't talk up enough. I'm a hiking fiend and marine biologist in New Zealand (constantly raining and wet) and this bag is the business. 25l with one minimalist main compartment that can easily hold whatever you'd need for a few days out. Neoprene laptop case and side zipper mean your laptop is safe and easily accessible. The exterior is solid weatherproof material as well, so you're not going to have to worry about water or abrasions. A few gear clips on the exterior and a couple convenient zip pouches for whatever you need easy access to. The fit is really what sold me on the bag. I'm 5'6" and petite and the distance between the straps is narrow enough to give me a snug fit on my back. There's a small detachable waist belt as well, but I've never used anything more than the chest strap, even when fully loaded. It just fits like a glove. I don't have to deal with the straps slipping, or with any pain because of poor weight distribution, even after a full day of wear. Plus Exped has a solid European presence, so you should be able to order without spending a billion dollars on shipping, if you choose to go this route.

Thanka for this awesome response! I totally feel you! And in no way am I looking to jump into another serious relationship with a sack of crap. A friend of mine is super keen to put my profile together, and I think I'll just let it sit. I'm more interested in someone feeding me, taking me to the new Marvel movies, calling me pretty, and getting out of my fucking way. I'm living internationally in a country where the "vivacious American" doesn't always go over well, and it's hard to meet people in any situation. My previous break-up dragged on for ***six fucking months*** and was all about me being "too firey", so I have no patience for "nice guys". Ain't nobody got time for that.

Quick note from someone living in New Zealand: Depending on when and where you travel, New Zealand can be really cold and wet, even in the middle of summer. It's also known for having all four seasons in a day. It's easy enough to buy gear here (including some lovely Merino products), but waterproof footwear is a must. If you have space and plan on doing a lot of hiking, consider some waterproof pants as well. A good hat or Buff cuff can make a huge difference here.
