I get the sentiment, but people experiencing homelessness or food insecurity shouldn’t be used as a tool to teach a lesson. If the kid is this cruel to her own family, I imagine she’d be an absolute horror to the patrons.

Gonna hop in here and push against the jump that the guy has anger problems. While that may be more common in domestic abusers than the general population, the impulse to say that men who hit their partners have anger management problems is inaccurate and even dangerous. If the person hits their partner when they’re upset, but isn’t frequently lashing out elsewhere - at strangers, coworkers, their boss - that’s not an inability to manage anger, that’s a deliberate choice to redirect it to someone they’ve decided is an acceptable victim.

Please, please read The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker. You posted here because on some level, you know this is a dangerous situation, and yet you minimize and dismiss and convince yourself despite the evidence in front of you that it’s not. Humans are the only animal in the world that try to convince themselves that “it’s probably nothing” when they feel afraid. Read the book, it’s a quick and interesting read, and maybe you’ll see this the way everyone else is.
